Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran took himself out of Monday's 9-7 Subway Series loss against the Mets, and he was expected to have an MRI on his hyperextended right elbow later that night.
Beltran hurt the elbow taking batting cage swings around the seventh inning. John Ryan Murphy pinch hit for him when he was due up that frame.
Beltran told Joe Girardi he was done for the night, and the manager said he was concerned for his 36-year-old No. 3 hitter.
"I'm concerned because it was enough to take himself out of the game," Girardi said. "I didn't have a long conversation with him about how sore he was. He seemed pretty upset."
Beltran wasn't around after the game. The Yankees public relations staff said he was visiting a nearby hospital for the test.
