This is crazy: Seattle gained 8 games and overtook Texas in the past 10 games

Rays vs Miami is a quietly meaningful series. Rays still have a shot at the AL East and Miami is in basically the same position as the Sox in the NL Wild Card.

Nats have been playing well lately, too, so hopefully they put up a fight against Toronto and the Sox can take 2 of 3 from Houston. I believe catching the Mariners at this point is a lost cause, they are going to win that division running away (I am not often right, though).

If you told me that the Phillies top five in bWAR this season would be: Bryson Stott, Zack Wheeler, Brandon Marsh, J.T. Realmuto and Taijuan Walker, I would not have expected them to be in strong playoff contention.

Very strange. The first person seems like it could be a situation involving someone with special needs. He seemed to be giving Acuna a hug--the second person is a lot more aggressive, perhaps they are a guardian related to the first person, and were upset security was handling the first person roughly?
I don't think so. I think he was trying to take a selfie with him.

Gallen is just a completely different pitcher on the road. The NL Cy Young race has a lot of meh contenders. I guess Blake Snell should be the favorite given what he’s done in the second half.

Trea Turner has also caught fire. .606 SLG and .961 OPS in August.

Why was she sneaking a gun into a baseball game to begin with?
Do metal detectors not pick up guns under a layer of fat?
If you can hide objects under the folds of your belly, why not a nice bottle of wine instead?

So many questions.

I'm guessing this is the thing where the wand beeps but there is a belt buckle or something. Which is why many airports make us take off our belts.

The Phillies are peaking at the right time and are a really fun team to watch.

Things may have just gotten even worse for Cleveland's pitching staff – Gavin Williams was pulled after one inning. No word on the reason yet. He did stumble and fall while following through on a pitch, but that didn't seem to be an issue as he got right back up and finished the inning. He didn't look sharp tonight though.

EDIT: Fortunately, it's "right knee soreness", so it does sound like it was just a precaution after tumbling off the mound.

Carlos Correa thought he was clever. He wasn't. He allowed an infield popup to drop with a runner on first and one out, hoping Cleveland would get confused and run themselves into a double-play. Instead, he just allowed Cleveland to swap Ramon Luareano as the base runner for the faster Andres Gimenez. A few pitches later, Gimenez stole second base and then scored on a 2-out single.

“ The @Dodgers in August:

2020: 21-7 (.750)
2021: 21-6 (.778)
2022: 22-6 (.786)
2023: 23-4 (.852)

The only other team in MLB history to have a .750+ winning percentage in the same month 4 years in a row (min. 10 games) was the Chicago White Stockings in June from 1878 to 1881.”

Coming into this season, almost 50% of Cody Bellinger's career WAR had been accumulated during his MVP season in 2019, which made him a potential candidate to rival Zoilo Versalles as the worst player to ever win an MVP award. However, after hitting .203 during his final three years in LA, he has rediscovered the ability to hit in Chicago, and is hitting .317 with an OPS+ of 138 and has a bWAR of 4.1. What a strange career he has had so far, and he only just turned 28.

Yeah but Kimbrel is on pitches and going, and has allowed 3 runs so far to gove up the lead.

mlbn has on the rangers/mets game currently. Instead of talking about the game, for most of the b'cast, they've had a panel on the left including CC Sabathia and have spent almost all the time talking about aspects of his career, especially his time with the Brewers. I don't get it.

So the Brewers signed Josh Donaldson to a minor league deal and expect to activate him within the week.

My question is, it doesn't matter that he was put on the 60 day IL on July 21, since he is with a different team now? Evidently not, but never seen that before.

Injured lists are team specific, so they're left to the discretion of the team. We've seen players on the injured list traded and the acquiring team will place them on their injured list, with the caveat that time spent on the IL is carried over (if a player is 10 days into a stint on the 15-day IL his new team can place him on their 15-day IL, but activate him after 5 days). So it makes sense that a new team can reassess the recovery time, place the player on a shorter IL and activate him sooner.

I'm not sure how the paperwork was handled when Cleveland acquired Noah Syndergaard, but the Dodgers had him on the IL and traded him one day before his next scheduled rehab start. They were in no hurry to activate him and were using up his full rehab assignment to figure out what to do. Cleveland wasn't bound to any decision the Dodgers had made, decided he didn't need another rehab start and activated him four days after the trade.

Interesting. I feel like there’s a loophole there somehow, but maybe impossible to exploit in reality.

Not to be outdone, Mookie with a 3 run shot of his own. Strider's start very much emblematic of his season— 14.40 K/9, 1.00 WHIP and a cool 7.20 ERA on 3 hits, as the disparity between his FIP and ERA continues to widen. Strange year!
