The NY Daily News did a story today about how few of the MFY coaches wear their jerseys underneath their hoodies during games.

Yet when Tito was managing the Sox, MLB was constantly nagging him about this and even made him prove he was wearing his jersey during a Sox-MFY game.

I'll be curious to see if the rules have changed since the Tito nonsense or if Boone now gets fined by MLB.

I bet you don’t find out because no one who could ask that question will bother doing so

Remember the gnashing of teeth when the Sox didn't sign him?
He had to have massive internal red flags for Cleveland to let him walk then for the Nationals to move him only after a couple months. People knew something that Toronto wasn’t privy too. This smells funny.

Eh, I don’t think it’s that complicated. Hand hasn’t been all that great for a while now, and the Jays didn’t give up much for him. Their bullpen is much better than it was a month ago as Romano has been lights out this month and taken hold of the closers job while Mayza has been solid too. They probably just didn’t think Hand could help much and they are pretty far back now anyways, don’t have the time to get him back on track.

This would be like the Sox dumping Robles.

You don't need any internal knowledge to realize Hand's been one of the most inconsistent closers in the game for a few years now and becomes completely unusable for stretches that can last months. He's fallen into one of those ruts, only has a month left on his contract and they can't trade him, so cutting bait isn't a real surprise. He's not someone who can battle through when he doesn't have his best stuff. In 2019 he started out dominant and then had a two month stretch in which opponents hit .360/.418/.584 against him and was temporarily removed from the closer's role. His 2020 season started off poorly, but then he got into a groove. Fortunately for him, the short season helped him avoid the terrible stretch we all knew was coming... except it arrived in the playoffs. He had also lost 2 MPH off his fastball while he was in Cleveland. The strange thing is that he had recovered the speed on his fastball this year, but he was relying on it more than ever before at the expense of his slider.

He's like Fernando Rodney, if you great season out of him, get rid of him and let his next team deal with the inevitable meltdown that's coming.
