Analytics Positions in the NBA

I received an email yesterday from a member of the NBA's Basketball Operations Analytics staff, and he "will be in Boston this coming Thursday September 24th through Saturday, September 26th to attend NESSIS. While in Boston, we are looking to extend our presence and to do some recruiting for analytics positions within the NBA. Blank mentioned that you might be well informed about groups in the area that might be interested in meeting to hear information about opportunities in Basketball Analytics at the NBA.  We would be particularly interested in setting something up for that Friday. Please let me know if there is anyone who might be worth reaching out to. I appreciate any guidance you can offer."

Can you elaborate on what kind of "opportunities" they are talking about? That sounds interesting but is very vague and I have no idea what they're looking for.

They're recruiting for the NBA league office, primarily. Data science, statistics, that sort of thing.
