Is there an exception with the White Sox, or did the '05 WS championship gloss over the AJP being hated by his teammates thing? I don't remember any stories when he was a Pale Hose. Leopard can't change his spots though. Hmmm, maybe crazy Ozzie got all the attention?
I don't know how his teammates viewed him, but Guillen has a famous and not so complimentary line about AJP, as follows:

"If you play against him, you hate him. If you play with him, you hate him a little less."

But Guillen also said some positive things about his former catcher.

I think you're spot on. The way Peavy clung to this team, I think he hadn't been around that kind of camaraderie before and loved it. Maybe he was sick of it or maybe it was just more normal in CHW, but yeah, my obey is on Peavy.

Peavy and AJP had a dust-up once in Chicago... besides the "common denominator" perception of AJP, I'm guessing Jake was hoping AJP wouldn't do anything to upset the '13 karma, but turned on him quickly once certain signs began to re-appear.

Did John Lackey ever have anything nice to say about AJP?

AJP said Lackey was one of the first people to text him after he was released (and before Lackey was traded) offering "good luck" and support.

The only one that seems upset about the circumstances of AJP's departure is Cafardo.  I believe that's all you really need to know....

Well, AJP did steamroll Michael Barrett and set off that awesome catcher-on-catcher knucklefest.

And Old Timey Nicky does love him some collisions at the plate.

Why would you assume they had to be close with Salty and a position player? The note says it started early this year and he had no chance--could just as easily be that AJP rubbed yet another in a long line of teammates the wrong way, and I'd say it's much more likely to be a pitcher, for reasons AJP's history makes obvious.

Peavy seems a pretty all-or-nothing kind of guy when it comes to teammate/ clubhouse stuff and I could see a perceived lack of shit-giving getting to him particularly of the candidates. But then, Peavy and AJP were in CHI together and so presumably this wouldn't have been news to Peavy.
If it started from the start then Peavy would be a logical choice because he was his teammate in Chicago.

Newton
Vaz paying dividends with how he catches the kids.

Webster spent the last few days working with Nieves and bullpen coach Dana Le Vangie on his delivery while throwing in the outfield.

“It took every day,” Webster said. “We were out there early every day. Just trying to get myself to repeat my mechanics. In my bullpen before the game, everything was right there.”

Farrell was quick to credit rookie catcher Christian Vazquez.

“Christian did an outstanding job behind the plate. There were a number of time he doubled up on breaking balls when [Webster] missed with the first one,” the manager said. “He used the breaking ball to get [Webster’s] hand back on top when he misfired with a fastball.”

Webster didn’t shake off any pitches Vazquez called.

“If I messed up and got away from my mechanics, he looked at me and told me to get right back at it,” Webster said. “That definitely kept me going in the right direction.”

Said Vazquez: “That for me is an honor, to help the pitcher. That’s my priority, to get him to make the pitches.”

The stuff about Pierszynski not being into preparation is inexcusable, and surprising that the front office got snookered on one of their most important characteristics of a catcher. They'd have been better off just going with Lavarnway if that's true, as he couldn't possibly be worse than AJ was.

But the criticism of AJP for preferring to play with his kids or read a book instead of participating in bullshit man-cave talk? That's crap, and I'd have no problem telling the players making that seem somehow "wrong" to go to hell.
