GCL: GCL Sox @. GCL Twins [10:00am]

GCL Start with a suspended game (from August 9th) and then follow it up with a 7 inning tilt.

Sox were leading 10-3 in the t-4th with no outs and 2 on (HBP, single) when play was halted last week.

Today began with RHP Taylor Nunez on in relief of Jeffry Fernandez, who's since been promoted to Lowell. Between Nunez's own wildness and his catcher's errant throws, the shit didn't take long to hit the fan. First, an errant pickoff throw plated the lead runner. After getting two quick outs (K, grounder), the Twins' running game wreaked havoc. SB, walk, double steal + E2, walk, and another double steal + another E2.

That made it 10-6 (5 R charged to Fernandez) with a runner still on 2nd. Nunez then walked three straight, forcing in another run, before Keivin Heras came on to end it with a whiff. Nunez, who'd been rock solid until allowing his first run of the year five days ago, saw his ERA climb from 0.75 to 2.13, while his K/BB dropped from 5.00 to 1.57 (in 12.2 IP over 9 G).

Jose Almonte's now on the hill, and just gave up an RBI triple in the t-8th. Sox still lead 10-8.

Oh my...

Right after I posted, Almonte walked the next batter and Jarrard Poteete clubbed a 3-run HR for what proved to be the game-winning hit. The Sox went down in order in the b-8th and b-9th, and they start the day with a woefully ugly 11-10 loss.

The suspension of activities did not go well for the GCL Sox, losing 11-10 (and scoring 0 today).

Game 2 didn't go any better for GCL. It's a 2-1 loss as they muster just 3 singles (Basabe, Miller & Guerra) and 2 walks (both to Oliveras). Jake Cosart fanned 3 and didn't allow a hit in his 2.2 IP, but must have eaten the same breakfast as Nunez as he issued 4 free passes. Both the Twins' runs were unearned, courtesy of more sloppy play by the Sox (throwing errors by Cosart & Devers).

On the bright side, RHP Kevin Steen (Boston's 9th rounder this year) was added to the roster and made his pro debut (1 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K).

To clear a roster spot for Steen, GCL assigned injured LHP Jalen Beeks up to Greenville where he was placed on their 7-day DL. The Drive had a reserve roster vacancy, so this is only a paper move. Beeks will likely remain in Fort Myers to rehab.

Tzu-Wei Lin went 3/4 with a PO/CS.

That's his second game with 3+ hits this season for Lin, having gone 3-for-3 with a walk in the season opener at Kannapolis on April 3.

It's just his fourth time doing so in three years as a pro (3-for-4 vs Connecticut on 7/2/2013; 3-for-7 at GCL Orioles on 7/18/2012).

Keith Couch is stringing together quite a nice run since returning from the disabled list.  19 IP, 13 baserunners allowed, 15/5 K/BB, no earned runs.
