Ball runs his streak of starts with 2ER or fewer to 5 in a row and 7 or 8, with 6.2IP and 0ER effort tonight.  While it would be nice to see more of an uptick on some peripherals, he's clearly made some adjustments and is showing positive development.

Another strong game from Ball today. He's totally turned things around the last month. Also impressed that Owens bounced back from a bad third inning to throw two more scoreless ones

Salem postponed again. Nothing official... but the next series is @ Potomac... we may see 3 consecutive doubleheaders.
Doubleheaders Tuesday and Wednesday. Single game on Thursday. Looks like one game got completely washed away...

STORIES

PAWSOX

Game Story

DH Blake Swihart's two-run triple in the ninth inning capped a three-run rally in the final frame to propel the Pawtucket Red Sox past the Charlotte Knights, 6-4, Sunday night at BB&T BallPark to complete a four-game series sweep in which three of the wins came in late come-from-behind fashion.

Pawtucket trailed 4-3 with one out in the ninth when Charlotte brought in lefty Donnie Veal (3-5) with no one on base. Garin Cecchini then singled and Deven Marrero walked to set the stage for Swihart, who lined his game-winning triple off the right-field fence to score each baserunner and put the PawSox in front 5-4.

With the victory, Pawtucket (68-54) moved a season-high 14 games above .500 and completed its second four-game sweep of the year. The PawSox also moved 2.5 games ahead of Rochester in the IL wildcard standings after the Red Wings lost in Indianapolis 10-0 on Sunday. The squad remained 1.0 games behind first-place Syracuse in the North Division as the Chiefs defeated Louisville 5-1 for their fifth win in six games.

Justin Henry drove a deep sacrifice fly to right field following Swihart's triple to conclude the scoring. After trailing 4-2 through six the PawSox plated a run in the seventh on Henry's fielder's choice grounder against reliever Scott Snodgress.

Henry Owens started for Pawtucket and allowed four runs on five hits in the third inning. Carlos Sanchez (RBI single), Avisail Garcia (RBI single) and Marcus Semien (RBI double) each collected run-scoring hits in the frame as Charlotte turned an early 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead.
SEADOGS

Game Story

The Portland Sea Dogs (75-47) had the bullpen implode again and gave up four runs in the seventh, en route to the 6-0 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (68-53) Sunday afternoon in the series finale. The loss, along with the New Britain win, keeps the Sea Dogs magic number at six.

Both teams were held scoreless by the opposing pitching staffs, until Richmond jumped on the board with four runs in the seventh against Dayan Diaz. Angel Villalona began the inning with a double to right and moved to third on an infield single to second by Ricky Oropesa, setting the table for Tyler LaTorre.

With the runners at the corners and infield drawn in, the catcher hit a hard chopper to short, which Heiker Meneses fielded and fired home, but the ball popped loose, allowed Villalona to score and Richmond held the 1-0 lead.

The inning continued to escape Diaz as he delivered a one-out walk to load the bases and gave up bases-clearing double to Elliot Blair, which upped the Flying Squirrels lead to 4-0. The hard throwing righty walked the next hitter he faced in Blake Miller, and ended his outing.

Aaron Kurcz was called upon to stop the bleeding and end the seventh. He walked the first man he faced in Mario Lisson, which again loaded the bases. The righty buckled down and struck out Villalona to end the frame.

Kurcz returned for the eighth and was tagged for two runs, making it 6-0 Flying Squirrels. Richmond scored 17 of its 18 runs in the series against the Portland bullpen.
SPINNERS

Game Story

The Lowell Spinners raced out to an early lead and held on with some help from All-Star closer Carlos Pinales, who picked up six outs, to top the Williamsport Crosscutters, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

Lowell (26-29) jumped out to an early lead with a three run fourth inning. After single by Mike Meyers, Jordan Betts and Aneudis Peralta led off the inning, Mitch Gueller uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Meyers to give the Spinners a lead. Nick Moore followed with a two-run double to stake the Spinners to a 3-0 lead.

Williamsport (26-30) answered with a pair of runs in the fifth inning after Derek Campbell led off the fifth with a double down the third base line. After two quick outs Emmanuel Marrero singled to score Campbell and Cord Sandberg doubled him home to cut the Spinners lead to one.

The Spinners widened the lead in the in the sixth inning. A one-out double by Peralta got things started and a wild pitch moved him to third. After a Nick Moore walk Mauricio Dubon doubled to right, scoring Peralta and Moore, who raced in from first. Dubon came in to score on an Alixon Suarez single for what would be the game-winning run.

Williamsport would rally for three runs in the seventh inning. After Marrero led off the inning with a double, a two-out double by Aaron Brown cut the Spinners lead to 6-3. Rhys Hoskins followed with a no-doubter to left, to bring the Cutters within a run.

The Cutters would get no closer however, as Joe Oliver called on his All-Star closer for six outs and Carlos Pinales delivered, striking out fellow NYPL All-Star Jiandido Tromp to end the game and close out the 6-5 Spinners win.

Things I learned from Kevin Thomas's Sea Dogs wrap-up:

* Richmond's Elliott Blair, who cleared the bases today with a 3-run double, is the older brother of Portland catcher Carson Blair.

* RHRP Jeremy Kehrt has been traded to the Dodgers, who were in need of a garbage-time innings-eater for their AA Chattanooga club. No word on the return for the Sox' 47th-round pick in 2008 out of Southern Indiana, but it can't be anything more than "future considerations" fodder. He turns 29 in December, he'll be a minor league free agent this fall, and to be extremely kind about his last four years in Boston's system, he's been fucking atrocious. Batters have hit .294/.346/.441/.787 against him since 2011 inclusive, and he's got a 5.68 ERA this year with 76 H & 20 BB in 57 IP split between Portland & Pawtucket.

Hate to be the turd in the punchbowl, but if there's a silver lining in Owens's outing yesterday, it will be the derailment of THE KID BELONGZ IN BOSTON! runaway train.  He's very talented, but he still has stuff to work on.

I, for one, wholeheartedly welcome said turd, and hope every single person who's ever spooged over Owens takes several gulps of that brown-tinged beverage.

As enjoyable and exciting as it is to see kids like Owens dominate opponents for extended stretches, I never want to see prospects sail unabated through the minors and reach the majors without facing adversity and demonstrating the ability to overcome it.

Drive win 5-0.

According to Speier, Margot is hitting .450/.488/.700 with two homers and five extra-base hits in nine games in August. For the season, he is .280/.348/.438 with 10 homers and 37 steals (in 49 attempts).

Outside of Devers, Swihart and Betts, I don't think there's anyone in the top 20 hitting prospects in the system who have the upside of Margot.  SoxProspects has him 11th in the system but I would be a lot sadder to see him traded away than if Eduardo Rodriguez, Brian Johnson, or even Marrero or Ranaudo were shipped out.  I know he is a ways off in A- ball but there's not many guys out there who show the ability to be above average in terms of contact, plate patience, speed and power potential.  Can't speak to his defense but he has a great mix of tools at the plate.

His teammate 18 year old Wendell Rijo has to have very high upside too. Margot has all the tools though and better control of the strikezone.
