Angel Bastardo looks to extend his streak of utter dominance following 13 scoreless with 23k over his last two starts.

DSL and FCL are off today but doubleheaders for Salem and Worcester make up for it.
  • Salem vs. Lynchburg x2, festivities start at 5:35pm
  • Greenville (Bastardo) @ Bowling Green, 7:35pm
  • Portland (Sharp) @ Richmond, 12:05pm
  • Worcester (Mosquesda/Bear Claw) vs Rochester x2, starting at 12:15
It could be a Monegro day as he last started on the 21st. Here’s hoping.

Today’s Scoreboard

According to my little chart, Jose Ramirez & Luis De La Rosa are in like to pitch before YORDANNY.

Elvis Soto I also have listed for Thursday & he was recently called up to Salem.

So I think we don't get YORDANNY until Friday.

Oh, they've added Ramirez & De La Rosa to that link. The chart wins again lol

Jeter Downs is playing 3B & batting 9th for the Rochester Red Wings today. He has a .168 batting average this season.

So of course Kluber walked him, let him steal second, allowed another hit, then a three-run homer.

Story is starting at SS for Worcester & got hbp in his first at bat. They're currently losing 3-1. & I'm ready to write-off Kluber after walking Jeter Downs.

Now Downs has homered off Faria. Yikes.

Good news is Story has a double.

Well...at least Mosqueda struck out 3 in a scoreless 1st inning?

But yeah Kluber & Faria are both pitchers I don't want to see in a Red Sox uniform again.

Reese started his AAA rehab today, batting 3rd and starting at catcher. So far he's 0-2 with a strikeout.

Glad he's out there, though. The Aquaman era (pronounced error) has run its course.

Reese's day is done at 0-3 with 2 strikeouts.

Rest of the offense doing just fine. Have scored 7 runs in 5 innings. But Gudiño pulled a Faria & Kluber & also allowed 3 ER, & they're losing 9-7.

Portland lost 7-5 because of their excessive use of Sterling Sharp.

Corey Rosier was 2-3 with a walk & 3 steals (33).

Phillip Sikes was 2-5 with a triple.

Nathan Hickey was 2-4 with a double.

Ryan Zeferjahn continuing to go above & beyond to remove himself from the 40-man roster crunch...4 walks in 1.2 inning (0 hits, 1 run).

WooSox won game two 4-2.

BEAR CLAW pitched 5 scoreless innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, ERA down to 2.75, 6-0 record.

Justin Garza did Justin Garza things & allowed a run (5.19 AAA ERA).

AJ Politi pitched the 7th & got his 10th save, but also allowed a run & raised his ERA to 3.57. He did strikeout 3, though.

Eddy Alvarez, the 33 y/o they just picked up for free, made his Worcester debut, starting at 2B. He was 1-1 with a walk & his 17th steal of the season.

Ryan Fitzgerald came in for him & went 1-1 with a RBI triple.

C Note was 1-3.

Dalbec was 0-2 with a walk & his 12th steal.

The Blizzard was 1-3 with a double, a walk, & 2 runs.

His offensive struggles might be all bad luck with BABIP, too. Hugely improved K rate, BB rate. I think I posted about that recently
Yeah...I mean he was 0-3 with 2 strikeouts today, but he's definitely been much better generally.

He's basically had the same batting season as David Hamilton.

Hernandez .249 BA, .801 OPS
Blizzard .248, .798 OPS

I’m really excited to see Eddy in the Red Sox system…but what happened that made him leave the game?

& Bastardo's shutout streak is over in the bottom of the 1st.

Mid talking points on this subject:

1) They should have sold high when they had the chance; or

2) At least they don't need to protect him from the 40-man draft now.

No, I mean today - according to Gameday he was pinch run for after an injury delay…

I’ve been following his baseball career closely since 2014. He’s definitely been around. An incredible athlete!
Lol sorry I totally misread that. They seem to regularly do that in a player's first game with any of their affiliates so I didn't read much into it.

But the injury delay part is concerning. I'll try to find out.

They've started play, unfortunately for Jose Ramirez who allowed 4 in the 1st & 1 in the 2nd.
He did quiet it down a bit, pitching scoreless 3rd & 4th innings, but Ramirez's final line for the game was 4 IP, 5 ER, 4 hits, 3 walks, 0 strikeouts, raising his ERA to 3.82. I had Ramirez #63 but might have to drop him a few.

Nathanael Cruz (#130) relieved him.

He was relieved by Michael Valera who was just called back up to Salem after sucking there previously & then being demoted back to the FCL where he was ok (which I would hope he would be at 24). Valera was intentionally omitted from the top 205. I don't actually hate him no matter how this post sounds...

He was signed for $7k in 2019... it's not his fault.

Valera did in fact allow 3 runs in his 1 inning on 3 hits & 2 walks. He did strikeout 2?

He raised his A-ball ERA to 11.48. He's the sort of guy who quietly loses his roster spot when the new guys come in.

Coffey was 3-4 with a homer & a double.

Albertson Asigen was 2-3.

Mr. Irrelevant, Juan Montera, went 1-2 with a double & a walk, improving his OPS to .597.

If there's one thing Chaim knows it's his Coffeys.

Would be ok selling high on both if other teams love them tbh, but they've both been impressive lately.

Yeah what is tricky for Cutter is he is definitely blocked at SS (I believe he has been mostly playing 3b as is…where he is also blocked). And before long he might have Zanatello and Anderson on his heels.

Certainly not a bad problem to have though if he continues to rake, especially as a RHH of which we are in kind of short supply.

Bastardo was no Angel today... allowing 6 earned runs in 4 innings on 6 hits, 2 walks, 4 WILD PITCHES, & 6 K's.

He was relieved by a guy who made me feel good about my non-ranking today, Graham Hoffman.

Hoffman, 24, allowed 4 earned runs in 2 innings on 4 hits & 3 walks, striking out 1. He has a 7.06 ERA & a 2.01 WHIP.

He was acquired as a UDFA for $20k after the truncated 2020 draft.

After Hoffman they wisely went back to the list & pitched Felix Cepeda who pitched a scoreless inning.

Cepeda, #135, has pitched 3.2 scoreless innings over 3 games since being promoted to Greenville, allowing 1 hit, 2 walks & 4 strikeouts.

Then they cavalierly went off-list again & instantly regretted it. The culprit this time was Aaron Perry, the Red Sox '17 14th round pick (thx Dombrowski).

Perry got 1 out while allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 4 hits & a walk, raising his ERA to 12.83 & WHIP to 2.48.

Thankfully Greenville went back on-list to Maceo Campbell to get the last 2 outs no problem, including a strikeout. Campbell is #197. Pretty clear demarcation between last prospects & non-list non-prospects.
