Nobody Cares
This runaway freight train we call the Red Sox is gaining momentum, and steamrolling everything in it's path. Next up to be mowed down are the struggling Cubbies. The entire northside will be suffering the Chicago blues all weekend, beginning at 8:05 tonight with the incomparable Brayan Bello toeing the slab for the good guys. It's been five long days, but now we're back to playing hardball. All aboard!

I'm wondering if the Sox sweep the Cubs if the Cubs will become "sellers" (of course the inverse could be possible too...).

I'd say beat them and leave town with one of their starters, but their soon-to-be-FA starters all looked pretty concerning leading up to the break.

I'm completely unfamiliar with any of the Cubs pitchers.... so really nothing worth trading for?
Ammending this.... I AM in fact vaguely familar with Hendricks who at least has a good ERA. But he's sort of a Kluber Klone, no? Just with better results but bad peripherals

Smyly's been mediocre all year, then garbage his last 3 starts: 11.1 IP, 14 ER.
Stroman's been really good all year, except his last 3 starts: 14 IP, 12 ER.
Hendricks is probably the best option? But even he closed out the first half looking mediocre vs the MFY.

I actually real like the look of that lineup. The real one without the verdugo clone.

a rock and a hard place
Duvall and Duran should switch positions. Duvall has not been good there in his limited sample, while Duran is about average (DRS says he is not good, UZR and OAA, disagree; Duvall is bad by all measures).

Verdugo should also switch positions with Verdugo

Why? Isn't he a ground-ball pitcher who benefits from excellent defense behind him?
Yeah. If Turner was an excellent defensive second baseman, he probably would have gone less than 8 years between starts there.

Wasn't he wonderful there for the Sox before his injury brought him down?
Not sure who you're thinking of, but Justin Turner is our DH with the big beard who sometimes plays 1st or third, & hasn't started a game at 2B since September 2015.

I have failed Reading 101. I saw the "aissance" part and just jumped to the assumption that Trevor Story was back. NEVER MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game 92
It’s the second half and the Sox are gellin’.
Will it be good or bad? No way of Tellin’.
(Can’t just thump it and know like with a melon.)
Baseball’s surprising like rumors ‘bout Ellen.
It’s like watching eps of Saved by the Bell in
a strange foreign language or seeing Helen
Mirren lose an Oscar to Tori Spellin’.
Will we steal a playoff spot like a felon,
come up a bit short, or be cellar dwellin’?
Will it be success or failure we’re smellin’?
Will we find some arms that won’t take a shellin’?
Are there bigger bats that we’ll soon be quellin’?
Will our list of injured players keep swellin’?
Will the trade deadline news leave us all yellin’?
Will we be buying’? Or will we be sellin’?
Will we do nothing (like post-Smallville Wellin’)
Stay tuned and find out. It will be compellin’!

I’m not sure what’s going on with the weather. Radar seems to show a pretty significant line of TS west of the Chicago area. But maybe not much after that passes? Might be wise for the Red Sox to go with an “opener” until the delay then roll with Bello after that imho

edit: fucking timezones man. I tune into mlbtv and see “you’re a bit early”. Of course we have to wait another hour for this bullshit break to be over. Maybe that will help with the weather situation? Dunno.

Wunderground is saying isolated thunderstorms @ 7 PM, but I'm not used to looking up stuff in another time zone. Are they giving me my time or Chicago's?
