Serious question in a game thread: I would rather watch the kids come up and play, like Rafaela and Bello and all of this minor league talent that Bloom says will be the future. Wouldn’t you?

Yeah but… if they’re not ready you could be hurting their development.

Maybe, but it won't happen. They are still in touching distance on the wild card standings and so long as there's a possibility they could find lightning in a bottle or Story helps right the ship, whatever, they are going to keep trying. But we might not be more than a few weeks away from the white flag.

You can only bring up guys on the 40 man. Bello's here, Casas is here, Hamilton's here, Valdez was here and ATM there is no need to rush Rafaela.

I do believe in the intangibles of this sport and I think unfixable damage can be done to a player who comes up too early and struggles mightily. I can see that happening with the current makeup of this roster and the competition that exists in the AL.

This ump expanded the zone on the first pitch, so Duvall decided to join him on the third

Ahh, well, you can't win them all.

I mean, I guess you could. But it's unusual. That's all I'm saying. It's uncommon.

I think for me, the team as constructed now is just not it. I think watching the young guys compete gives me hope for the future.

Here's the thing: Building a good team is not about you, or fans in general. Risking young talent before it's ready just so the fans will feel better about things is not conducive to development.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
We have still won more series than we have lost.

So by Cora-math, we're winning.

The amazing communications of the hitting coaches will eventually prevail, I'm sure.

PS - Also, plus run differential as pointed out upthread. Good for Pythag Wins!

So it means they aren't as good as their record indicates and regression is likely?
Then the standings should be re-ordered by run differential. There's no way of knowing if regression is likely. They could easily just keep getting better as the season goes along

The starting pitcher has faced 27 batters and retired them all; however, his team hasn't scored through nine. The 10th begins with a runner on second who gets sacrificed to 3rd and then scores on a sac fly before the pitcher retires his 30th consecutive batter. His team doesn't score and he gets the loss but credit for a no-hitter. Does he also get credit for a perfect game?
Seems like it, yes. Unless reaching base by operation of rule counts as reaching base.
