In The Quivering Forest
Gil finally gave up some runs in his last start but I am willing to cut him some slack because he was facing the Dodgers.

He will return to total and complete domination today.

I’m back from my retirement home to do some front running with this exciting Yankees team. Life begins anew at 77.

Here's the lineup, interestingly (and unsurprisingly once you think about it for a second) Soto will move to LF and Verdugo to RF, both for the first time all season, I believe. Verdugo of course played the tricky Fenway RF all last season.

A. Volpe SS
J. Soto LF
A. Judge CF
A. Verdugo RF
G. Stanton DH
A. Rizzo 1B
G. Torres 2B
O. Cabrera 3B
J. Trevino C

Red Sox beat Phillies two of three this week. Philly might have been a bit tired from the weekend series in London. Still, an impressive series win for Boston.

NY has been getting the best pitchers in everyone's rotation recently (mostly by luck), but they miss Houck and Pivetta this weekend. Last weekend the Dodgers sent their best three current SPs against Poteet/Cortes/Gil, this weekend BOS gets Gil/Rodon/Stroman.

This one is starting early, 6:30 EST, to have less overlap with the Celtics starting at 8:30.

Poor Verdugo. His return is getting almost zero coverage/care on Boston network media

Wow, awesome numbers for Cole in his rehab start, which I think will be his last. Ten strikeouts in four and a third.

Bello evidently thinking there as he's running over "honestly anyone who hit a ball as hard as Stanton just did to only get a single deserves to score".

Gil got away with basically intentionally walking Royce Lewis twice last week because he only allowed one hit through six. I think he did the same thing with Devers there, but this time it bit him, he doesn't have the control to do it tonight.

Gutty outing by Gil, that has to be the worst command he has had all year. Still hitting 100 on pitch 96 and 97, exciting exciting pitcher.

Very difficult to enjoy Kahnle's work. His stuff isn't good enough anymore to have awful command. I know he partially salvaged that against the bottom of their lineup, but just made every mistake to start it

The last 6 Sox batters have struck out consecutively to a combination of Tommy Kahnle and Caleb Ferguson. Feels like the odds of that happening at the outset were low

The first one was bad, the second one was right there, either way.
It was closer than the first, yes, but if you've established that you're calling strikes off the other side of the plate, that call is much worse. It may have just grazed the corner, not sure about "right there".

Even when he's going well, Stanton will just occasionally have an at-bat that is reminiscent of how you'd play a video game if you were not really paying attention

Hahaha!

I mean, those swing stats were pretty illuminating, he has the longest swing in baseball so he is going to look very bad sometimes.

Verdugo ties his career RBI high of 4 in a game.

I feel like he's been guessing on pitches more than ever, both good and bad. When it's bad, it's really bad. But on the good side he's been crushing some pitches.

Missed you, Terry. So great to see you!

Just the 38th time across all teams since 1901 a team has won 50+ in their first 72 games. This is time #10 for the Yankees. Nobody else has more than 3.

Yanks have played 40 road games already, compared to 32 for Orioles, who lost in 11 innings to Philly and endured a 71-minute rain delay after the 10th inning. The lead of 3.5 games seems bigger.

Yanks are 28-12 on the road. That’s a .700 pace. 1927 Yankees won 110 games and played .679 ball on the road. Not comparing the two teams, just saying the 2024 Yankees are road warriors.
