“I watch guys get praised and anointed who I feel like are half as talented as me on either side of the ball, but at this point in my life, I just embrace it. It comes with being who I am and what I stand for, and I ain’t really changing that. So I just come out and I’m grateful to step out onto the floor each and every night, put my best foot forward and get better each and every year. Whether people appreciate it or not, it is what it is.”

So said Jaylen Brown when asked about his all-NBA snub. When asked about it after Game B, Jaylen said “We’re two games from the Finals, so honestly, I don’t have the time to give a fuck.” I doubt that’s really true, but I certainly have time to give a fuck and hope that he continues to demonstrate how absurd it was to leave him off. During the Cleveland series he boasted that no one on the Cavs could guard him, and while that was true, it’s probably true for almost any team. Indy doesn’t have a good defense, but bad D can’t alone explain JB’s performance on Thursday: he was simply other-worldly, and it was especially critical on a night where Tatum didn’t really have his A game.

I’ve only been to Indianapolis once, and it was to spend more than I could really afford at the time to see Eli Manning and Mario Motherfucking Manningham defeat the Pats in SB XLVI. So I’ve never really liked Indy, and I’d prefer to rebrand it in my mind as the city where the Celtics curb stomped their way to the Finals. We’re undefeated on the road this playoffs, but Indy is undefeated at home—something has to give tonight, and I’ve decided it will be the Pacers’ streak to end.

Game B’s bench production was a substantial improvement over game one, and we’re going to need them to be even better—Indy isn’t just perfect at home this playoffs, they haven’t lost at home since March 18. With KP still out and Kornet doubtful tonight, I’d like to see more Tillman than we have and more contributions from Oshae. If we can get JT cooking alongside JB and a bench that can take over when the starters need to rest, Indiana doesn’t stand a chance.

Injuries
BOS - Kristaps Porziņģis (OUT - calf), Luke Kornet (DOUBTFUL - wrist)
IND - Tyrese Haliburton (QUESTIONABLE - hamstring), Bennedict Mathurin (OUT - shoulder)

Logistics
8:30p EDT tip at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. ABC/98.5 FM/SiriusXM 212 (Celtics), 86 (Pacers), 80 (National).

WIN.

Let’s not overreact if a motivated Indiana shoots lights out at home and grabs this one. This is their most likely win of the series. That said, making it all a formality after tonight would be sweet.

Indiana is the annoying state you have to drive through to get to Chicago. It’s kind of like a far worse version of Ohio. At least in Ohio you can make a fun stop in Cleveland to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or take in a game at Jacobs Field. There is no reason to stop anywhere on I-90 in Indiana. Just keep driving and put that state in the rear view mirror as quickly as possible.

The Celtics should take a similar approach tonight. Play fast and run up the score on the impotent Indiana defense. These playoffs have been a blast. Watching the Celtics run over Indiana will make for a fun filled Saturday night. Paste the Pacers.

If so it must have been something mild because he put up 36 points with 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
I meant Game B, whoops.

He looked lethargic coming out, which we almost never see.

I wouldn't mind going to a Notre Dame football game. Catholic kids growing up in NE when I did were all Noter Dame fans, I think.

Maybe the only good thing about Indiana? This is the Butler University fieldhouse, where Hoosiers was filmed. Yeah, I was doing a volleyball camp there....83095

Irish Catholic more specifically. My Dad took me to a game at West Point when I was around 10 years old.

I remember rooting for Army.

Irish all the way tonight, though. Crush these guys out in Indiana. Sorry, but I don't want to be a gentleman.

Most of my extended family is in Indiana. I spoke to my parents last night and told them they should go to Indy and watch the C's stomp the Pacers. They told me they already had plans seeing Earth Wind and Fire at some theater in a weird Amish village that apparently is very popular with the local folks. So yeah, that is Indiana and that is why the C's must win tonight.

Nice. I’m sure there are lots of great people and fun things to do in Indiana but tonight I am the anti-Hoosier.

No excuse for the Celtics this year.

Brunson, Giannis, Haliburton, Butler, Embiid, Mitchell, were all injured this postseason on the East.

Win.

This game might be frustrating. I can imagine Indiana's role players shooting lights out at home with nothing to lose. Similar to game 4 vs Cleveland. Hopefully they take their spirit in the 1st QT.

Let’s keep the pressure on and keep attacking the rim. We can really take control of this one tonight…

Yeah, these are still pros and the are chock full of offensive talent, plus Jrue might sit. Indy probably steals a game at home even without Hali.

this is a bit embellished.

Embiid had better numbers against the NYK this season than he did against Boston last year. He was healthy enough. Brunson wasn’t injured until after the last game was pretty much settled (but there were other NYK injuries for sure). Mitchell was injured after Boston was up 2-1 and Haliburton was injured after Boston was pretty clearly going up 2-0.

edit- as for Butler, Miami missed him so much they look ready to dump him.

The Pacer offense was far more unimaginative and mud-stuck once Hali was out in Game B.

C’s win this one going away. I predicted a 15-point win in Game B, so I’ll say 20+ tonight.

It’s a Holiday weekend without Holiday. Weird. Have yourself a rest, you glorious pest. We’ll need ya to earn the One Ring to Jrule them all.

I missed Game 2. How much credit does Mazzulla get for adjusting strategy to the team getting so many points in the paint, and how much was just game-flow/defense into offense/other things?

"We've got Tatum, Super Jayson Tatum,
I don't quite think you understand.
He plays in green and white,
He's f*cking dynamite,
We've got Super Jayson Tatum!"

There were several adjustments that the more Xs and Os minded among us could drill into. Writ large, Celtics sized them up in Game 1, and dialed it in in Game B.

I would add that -- as has been said many times by many people, all of whom much smarter than I -- the NBA being a league of runs, we saw a bunch of runs, most of which gave the Celts 12-15 point leads with the others bringing the Pacers back to 3-6 point range, until Hali got hurt and Carlisle threw in the towel (with about 9 minutes left).

Why don't you open a can of worms while you're here?
