Every pitching matchup is fun right now, late tonight we have the pitching-well-but-ahead-of-his-FIP Rodon vs the crowd pleaser fine wine Yu Darvish.

The Yankees last faced Darvish almost exactly a year ago and beat the absolute crap out of him, 7 runs in 2.2 innings. Darvish has the lowest HR/FB of his career right now by a lot, so either he's going to regress at some point or he's on to something.

Rodon: 5-2, 3.27 ERA, 4.46 FIP
Darvish: 4-1, 2.08 ERA, 2.63 FIP

Points in favor of staying up late-ish to follow the whole game:

- Yankees playing pretty well, Judge / Soto ABs are must-see
- it's Friday
- Pitch clock subtracts 25 minutes

Points against:

- It's Friday
- Weekend hang out with significant other?
- Could start holiday weekend strong with extra rest / getting up early

Not sure where I shake out yet.

The later the better for me, I'm a night owl.

Soto goes back to SD, Judge goes back to his home state for the next nine games.

Great job by Volpe getting to third there on a ball down the LF line against Profar, otherwise he likely doesn't score.

Just thinking to myself 'wow Darvish has made Soto look silly four times now' but not a 5th!!

Darvish had a 25 inning scoreless streak coming into tonight. That is no longer intact.

I think that was the most impressive four batter display I have ever seen.

We always say it, but roster squeezes always seem to work themselves out. Now there's no issue when DJ comes back.

There wasn't an issue for DJ anyway, as Jahmai Jones still has a roster spot.

Peraza has been playing minor league games for a couple weeks and while he has not hit much, he had two hits and two SBs in AAA tonight. Caleb Durbin unfortunately is not an option as he just got put on the IL after a HBP, Jorbit Vivas is on the 40 man but just started rehab games after a fractured eye socket in late March (ow).

So probably Peraza, Jeter Downs has a .848 OPS in AAA but he is not on the 40 man.

Actually I guess it depends on whether they want someone they will actually use some or in the Jahmai Jones role, in which case maybe just keep Jones and crom was right.

I know I said roster squeeze, but I actually didn't mean an issue with the roster spot, more that there just wasn't room for both Oswaldo and Berti to get playing time once DJ was back. Didn't even think of Jones, who's seemingly been a dead man walking for a while, but I'm all for his continued survival. It's pretty clear that he's a Good Clubhouse Guy.

Reporter asks Judge how it feels to be part of a big 3, like in the NBA. He answers that it's a big 9, a big 26, that everyone is a stud in their own right and that they're part of something special.

I know it's fanboy shit, but man I love this guy.

All those options I listed and I still didn't get it:

Jack Curry:

"With the expectation that Jon Berti will be placed on the IL, the Yankees are likely to recall Kevin Smith. He will have to be added to the 40-man roster. It will probably only be for 2 games. The Yankees want Oswaldo Peraza to continue to play every day."

Pretty sure my fave athlete of all time at this point.

Darvish had only given up 2 HRs all year, NY had 4 in 6 ABs plus another off the wall.

Did that really happen?

His HR/FB% on the season went from something like 4% to 10% just from last night. His career rate is 13%
