Anyone who switched to project fi have any reason I shouldn't buy the 6p and join? I already have an invite and just need to place the phone order. It seems too easy and obvious so I fear in missing a catch...

I'm interested in this answer as well. I try to use Hangouts to make calls on my G3 and it sucks so bad that it's totally unusable on WiFi or 4G. I'm terrified of the basically horrible Hangouts app being my only option or I would have pulled the trigger already.Boggs26 said:Anyone who switched to project fi have any reason I shouldn't buy the 6p and join? A quick question - if I am at home on a wifi network that is password protected and my phone is connected to it, will I use wifi to make calls or will it only make calls over free, open networks???
The Nexus phones do not use Hangouts to make wifi calls. It uses the phone's normal dialer. You can use hangouts to make calls from other devices. It does send your voicemails to hangouts, which you can access from your phone or other devices.jercra said:I'm interested in this answer as well. Poweramp is the answer.ElUno20 said:Can someone recommend a decent music player app with no ads? Free or a for a couple bucks. I'm on a galaxy and just tired of the small buttons on the lock screen.
Thank you. This is exactly what i needed.Foulkey Reese said:Poweramp is the answer.
I have the paid version, but it was only $1-2 I think.
Great app with lots of good features. Very fast and good looking.

Just beacuse it is seldom (if at all) mentioned here, and from all reports, LG seems to not be lighting the world on fire.glennhoffmania said:Why is that against the grain? That's the phone I was looking at upgrading to this winter and I've only heard good things. Am I missing something?
jayhoz said:The Nexus 5X will ship with a USB-C to USB-C cable and I presume a wall charger. If you want to connect it to a laptop or existing charger you will need to purchase a USB-C to standard USB (USB-A) cable which are currently not widely available.

Nexus 5. Still holding off on install. The Android sites are pretty content-free as usual but no one seems to be reporting showstoppers. Plan is to hold off till the first point release.FL4WL3SS said:What phone do you have?
I got an update last night, but it wasn't the 6.0 update.
There is a ton of garbage in Touchwizz that you could probably turn off that would help the battery life.yecul said:Picked up the Galaxy S6 as I'm perpetually behind the times. Holy hell the battery is dogshit.
That's interesting, I have a Nexus 6 and have not gotten it yet.crystalline said:Nexus 5. Still holding off on install. The Android sites are pretty content-free as usual but no one seems to be reporting showstoppers. Plan is to hold off till the first point release.
This is why I went with the GS6 Active. The battery life coupled with quick charge is game changing.Foulkey Reese said:There is a ton of garbage in Touchwizz that you could probably turn off that would help the battery life.

About a year into having the Droid Turbo and I don't think I could ever own a phone that didn't at least match this battery and have some form of Turbo charging. It's a completely different phone experience when you don't have to worry about your phone not going a full day with heavy use.

Joined the waitlist. I don't understand why this always happens with these phones.
Droid Mini was great when it was released 2 years ago. I can't imagine it will be officially getting anything past 4.4.4 and I don't see a forum for it on XDA.jayhoz said:It looks like the only device that meets the size requirement and isn't a total POS is the Droid Mini. Anyone have one?
My Nexus 6 still has not received the update... what device are you on?crystalline said:I installed Android M a few days ago. So far, so good. No obvious problems. Slightly better and smoother animation. Slightly better battery life, I think, but it's not blowing me away.

You're paying more for the phones in your new scenario, but yes it won't save you much if you were grandfathered into an old unlimited data plan, it was a loophole that Verizon closed several years ago, usually you can't upgrade a Verizon unlimited data plan and get the phone subsidized, you need to bring a phone you bought outright.jayhoz said:Can someone check my math on this.
Current Plan: Two lines, unlimited data, plenty of minutes and texts, corporate discount.
Total before taxes and fees = $135
I usually purchase 2 new $200 phones every two years so I would add $16.70 in order to compare to the new plans
Total = $152
New Plan: Two lines, 12GB Data (yes I need that much), Unlimited talk and text, corporate discount.
Data = $63.20 (this is where the discount is applied)
Line Access = $40
2 New Phones = ~$40 per month
Total = $143.20
The new plans save me a measly $9????
Not to mention the fact that they are going to gouge me an extra $20 per month until August when my second line comes off contract.

Trautwein's Degree said:Decided to opt for the S6 Active. Fantastic camera and battery life. Not to mention the added durability is a plus given my kids are 2 and 5.
Trautwein's Degree said:Two weeks into the GS6 Active and I love it coming from a Moto X 2014. The screen is goregous. The camera is astounding. It very quickly focuses and processes images. Touchwiz doesn't suck as much as it used to - all things being equal I would prefer moto's interface but that's a small thing. The battery on the active kicks ass. After a morning of normal use, I'm at 85%. I don't know why phones don't come with bigger batteries. The trade off in form factor is small. I wish it had a fingerprint sensor and was 64gb. Though I upload to google photos and delete images anyhow. On my 16gb X I never used more than 13gb. Great phone. Easily the best that I've ever had.

Trautwein's Degree said:The lag on my GS6 Active was terrible. I tried a bunch of different things to get rid of it. Then I swapped the google keyboard for Samsung's keyboard and all is well in the world. I do not know why on a phone as expensive as the GS6 and with its guts - it performs like my old HTC Hero in any situation.
The odds of me selling my GS6 next year to purchase an iPhone 7 are at like 99%.
DItching Google Keyboard has restored this to being a great phone. But for fucksake, Samsung and Google, activating a stock keyboard in 2015 should not turn a porsche into a ford focus.Bunt4aTriple said:
Honeymoon is over, huh? I've had my 6 Active since July 1 and I have no issues whatsoever. I use Swiftkey for the keyboard, but it's been a champ and it is the best phone I've ever had.
I've had mine for a little over a week now. My only complaint is the lack of OIS. I love the new camera sensor, but there are moments where the lack of OIS is really frustrating. Everything else is great. The battery life is much better than it was on my 2 year old Nexus 5, but I'm not sure if that's anything other than the phone being new.Sox of Red said:I'm on day 2 with the Nexus 5x. I've had no significant issues so far and the only lag I see is when I'm deleting emails.
