Although I believe you can still only carry 13 pitchers, so maybe it would be Peraza, more likely they will just play a man short for a few days.

Cashman is hoarding a lot of relievers, not sure how much longer he will be able to pull that off. Also even though NY is carrying nine relievers, not sure how well they are set up for a full nine innings from the pen in that slot on the 11th, dunno who can go more than 2 innings (Hamilton or Brewer?). Brito should get another chance, but the roster manipulations are tricky. Maybe they will put a reliever on the phantom IL in time for Brito to take that turn?

That seems plausible.

Do you want to pay him huge money after 2024, $150M or $200M? If not, it still makes sense.
The idea of Gleyber being a $200 million player is hard to swallow, but on the other hand what replacements are there? Not sure Peraza's bat plays at the major league level in terms of a starter.

I think DJ will be productive at 2B through the end of his current deal (through 2026), which should be long enough to figure out what comes after, whether it is one of the homegrown kids or an external option. But I do think moving Gleyber can wait until the next off season unless Cashman gets a great offer.

I think that is a good solution. I just can't imagine trading him in the middle of this season when they could just cut Donaldson instead.

Peraza has 37 HRs the last two seasons in 850 ABs, also 71 SBs, and he is still 22.

NY has more kids on the way in the infield too, both Trey Sweeney (eventual 3B?) and Roderick Arias should rise fast this year.

It's hard to get a bead on teams or players early in a season as you don't really know the quality of the opposition, so when NY pitching handled SF hitters pretty easily, it was easy to chalk it up to a feeble SF lineup.

Then SF went to Chicago to take on the White Sox and cranked 13 HRs in a three game series (!!!!), so Brito's performance especially is even more impressive in retrospect.
