Gram Parsons was always interesting to me. Cool guy trying to blend traditional country with rock, heroin addict, AND he got to have Emmylou Harris. I always thought if I got to have Emmylou I'd cut back on the heroin, but maybe that's why I'm not a tortured artist.

'Her heart was filled with laughter when she saw those city lights
And she said, "The prettiest place on earth is Baltimore at night"
Well, a man feels proud to give his woman what she's longing for
And I kind of liked the streets of Baltimore'

This has almost nothing to do with today's 1:05 start, but I always wanted to use this song for an Orioles game.

Houck starts for us, and he's been good, so there's that. However, the best news is that we probably won't have to see Kaleb Ort, as his bag-o-tricks has been used up for at least a day or so. (If not forever.)

And hey- wasn't yesterday a great day for Corey Kluber to set the wayback machine to 2017 and pitch like he used to? Encouraging, right?

This would be a good win.

A win and great game for Duran. (Duran?!)
Notorious
last year, he’s now the man.
Hungry Like a Wolf, he showed what he’s worth -
brought high flying birds down to Planet Earth.
In an Ordinary World, we’d have won
really big if Ort had not Come Undone.
The Reflex
I have to Ort’s a jump scare.
I wish he were gone, but I’ll Save a Prayer
that our pen’s Wild Boys can improve a notch
and, like Girls on Film, get more fun to watch.
With a tRio of wins, Houck takes the hill,
hunting for birds with A View to a Kill.

The first thing that I noticed is that this is not the typical day after a night game lineup. Granted that tomorrow is an off day, but after 19 straight days it wouldn't be out of the norm for Cora to sit a guy or two for an extra day off. I'll gladly take this as Cora seeing this as an important game to win.

Score ten in the first and Houck go six scoreless so I can check out early and go read at my coffeehouse in peace.

let the shoddy umpiring begin. Already two embarrassingly bad calls

Starbucks, Peet’s or Caffe Nero?
Those big chain places don't necessarily say anything if you loiter for a few hours reading on a single tea, but they aren't really into it. Currently, I go to a much smaller NY-only chain called Swallow Cafe in Morgantown.

Ugh. I know he’s here because of injuries, but it’s hard to fathom how poor defender Valdez actually is. He’s a bigger disaster than an oil spill.

So was the throw yesterday in the ninth that he inexplicably couldn't handle.
He's shaking his head in frustration. I would be too!

Honestly I'm not a die-hard Sox fan anymore so the clowncar stuff is fun to me

The Red Sox defense would be better if they fielded only 8 players. Seriously, is Valdez the only available option for 2B?

From an easy double play that a kid could make and being virtually out of the inning to giving up run(s) Is there no better option than Valdez.
Like how do you make it this far without being able to routinely catch the ball? I mean that’s like baseball 101.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Sigh. My 1:30 "Draft while listening to the game" block has been replaced by a 1:30 "Client emergency" zoom meeting, which will absolutely require my engagement.

But Yoshida gives me hope for what I'll find in an hour or so.

Bring up Hamilton or Goodrum is what I say (or sign Iglesias) if they’re healthy

Hamilton at AAA, but they got him games at SS since 2021.
Duran was signed as a 2B, but has been in the OF for most of the minors.

So the answer is. . .Bobby Dalbec.

Eh, it's one AB but that appearance looked like a step back for Casas. Bad feel for the strike zone there, or just too indecisive on whether he wanted to swing.

I'm okay with him getting called out on strikes like that occasionally.... but he obviously should have swung at that one
