No, you'll look back and say, "They were the greatest single season team of all time. Wins record, points record and the Cup. Fuck Montreal." It would be super cool.
It's certainly not worth running guys into the ground and possibly not winning the Cup, though.
This is where I’m at and was going to author a similar post had I not read it first.
Everyone is correct that the Cup is all that matters, however, IF they win, then I would love to look back, and say this was one of the greatest, possibly THE greatest season an NHL team has ever had and I witnessed it. Not only that, but I’m sure we’d all agree we love these guys. Patrice and Brad, Pasta, the goalies, and on and on and on, top to bottom it’s a great group and I want for them to have the records, the Cup and all the glory that goes with it. Hockey’s equivalent to the 1972 Dolphins*… every year a team wins a Cup, but this Bruins team could be THE team, the best that’s ever done it.
*I do not think the Dolphins of ‘72 are the best to ever do it, but there is a reverence with them and they and their fanbase certainly celebrate it. Also why the ‘07 loss hurt so much: sports immortality.
***quick edit to add: all of the above in an era where there are 32 teams and a salary cap (h/t C), parity, etc… saying the Cup is all that matters now is true, but in hindsight if they wrap up the other things in addition, that would be unparalleled, even if in 5 years another Presidents Trophy team wins the Cup, it won’t be the 6x win Bruins… with 1xx points.
