Ha. Don’t disagree but he’s a call they have to make. But I think it’s Donovan then everyone else.
I think that's a good call. Donovan makes sense, and he's just treading water in Chicago
Hadn't they just publicly proclaimed that Calipari was safe at UK for another year? Maybe the fans wanted to murder him but the administration had his back.

Sources close to John Calipari say he had bad feelings about his situation at Kentucky, and that the lack of support had grown to the point where he didn’t feel like he could stay on because he didn’t feel wanted. The assets Arkansas put in place convinced him to make this move.
I don't see Hurley leaving UConn. He's had no problem getting the talent there necessary to compete for championships, so it's not like Kentucky is providing him with advantage he doesn't already enjoy. And his dad was not a "chase every dollar" guy, but the type of guy who stayed one place and built it into someplace special rather than hop from job to job. If Dan has any of his dad in him, he'll stay at UConn and eventually get a statue and the court/fieldhouse named after him after winning several more championships.

I cannot fathom why Dan Hurley would leave UConn for Kentucky. UConn has been a much, much better college basketball program for the last 25 years. In part due to Hurley, but not just that. Unless they just absolutely overwhelmed him with $$. Which, I suppose, would be the plan.
A lot more people care about Kentucky basketball than UConn basketball? I guess. But I mean, UConn sells out every home game and they win a ton, so....ok?
This all makes sense to me. It would be Calhoun 2.0. Unfortunately, there does seem to be one thing that makes coaches move and always needs to be worried about a little bit.
I believe he meant a lot more people care about money. It’s a correct take. But Hurley is already making 6M plus a year. I don’t think UK will through a bag at him big enough that;
1) UConn won’t match
and/or
2) Big enough to entice him to make a lateral move at best.
Sure, it could happen. I don’t think it will. I think DH will be at UConn until he retires or wants to try out the NBA. I don’t think either of things will be happening soon.
To me, that's the only temptation that might have him leaving UConn. I agree that UConn could/would match, or at least come close enough to not make it worth moving, whatever Kentucky or any other school offered. But if he has an itch to go up to the next level, he'll leave at some point if the situation is correct. But I wouldn't be surprised if even that would take one of the bigger jobs opening up.

I tend to think Brad is a guy who values his family (daughter is soph in high school now) and likes his current situation and can't be bought at the moment. It is also unclear to me he wants to coach again anyway, college or pro. I think Kentucky will ask - and my personal guess is it's one short call and he says a firm no. He was rumored by UNC fans to be a top candidate there, and it went nowhere. The only job I could imagine him even thinking hard about is IU...and I still don't think he's interested right now, if ever.
I do think Kentucky would be willing to offer the full Brinks truck to Brad, he's one of the few viable home run guys on the horizon.

Not really tracking this, suddenly the money or lure of UK is irrelevant if they win on the off chance they somehow win a third next year? And by this logic, wouldn’t he look to leave UConn for UK at the next opportunity starting next year?
Doesn’t add up. You either want the other job, or not, unless, of course, your post is in any way based on knowledge of Hurley’s thinking (even if rumblings/tribal knowledge). In that case, fair enough.
That's a big part of my belief that he's staying as well. To me, his whole resume reads "we're not leaving the Northeast until if ever...(probably her/his parents pass, and maybe other family considerations)"
Plus they're practicing Catholics. I'm guessing neither one of them would be enamored with the idea of going someplace where they're a minority.

"Oh my God, Kentucky or anywhere that's going to take her further from New Jersey," he said when asked about her reaction to a potential move. "I mean, we just went to Rhode Island, which I had to drag her to, and then to Connecticut. I got her closer. And now further? I can't afford a divorce right now, too. I just started making money."

How Calipari arrived to the press conference. Questions had not begun. He just looks miserable. Heaven forbid he just retires.

I spent a month in Ft Smith, Arkansas due to the Air Force. Only state I have driven thru that had massive potholes on the highway. Even worse, the strip clubs were topless only.
Not that there was any chance of it happening anyways, but officially Dan Hurley is staying at UConn.

The catch is he can’t leave just yet. Are they willing to wait until the Bulls are done?
It seems silly but a week is an eternity in these things. I’d wait for him though.
Would be nice to see Donovan back in the college ranks. However, the college game has changed immensely since he was at Florida...he may not want to put himself through that at this stage of his career.
Calipari’s inherent advantage as a college coach was that he had no ethics and no shame as a recruiter. Once NIL took that edge away, he’s been just another guy.
Kentucky is still a top program, but the idea that they will get a big name coach because they are Kentucky is fan fiction. If they get someone like Donovan, it’s a reflection of their ability to bail him out of a bad situation.

If that were true his recruiting classes would presumably see a drop off. They haven’t. I also don’t think the Oaklands of the world are beating them because he’s getting worse recruits.
