I'm giving it a month of real games before I pull the trigger but I think I'm getting a Bader jersey this year.
It's a major question whether they will keep him after this year. On one hand, he seems like a fantastic fit, especially as a lifelong Yankee fan, but Dominguez looks good in CF and should be ready soon, and Bader seems like he will get paid a lot in a weak year for positional player FAs.

For sure. But Bader is just a cool dude. Reminds me of a way less annoying Swisher.

Yeah, you know I’m a big fan. Judge was raving about him defensively yesterday, on and on.

I'm here for all of the Gary Sanchez rumors floating on social media. I'd rather watch a Sanchez bounceback season than a Hicks bounceback season.

Still furious he didn’t start there every game in the postseason.

They have good pitching depth as long as these aren’t serious.

Weissert, Cordero and Krook are all on the 40 man, have all looked great the last few weeks, and were unlikely to make the team before these injuries.

Cole
Cortes
Severino
German
Schmidt

King
Abreu
Krook or Cordero
Weissert
Marinaccio
Peralta
Loaisiga
Holmes

Zach Britton is still out there too.

The relievers really aren't a concern, Rodon and Bader obviously are.

Re: Rodon forearm strain, I am so glad the Sox didn't sign him, if only because I can't take another round of Sox fans screaming "OH NO HE IS DONE FOREVER!! CHAIM YOU IDIOT!!" Assume Yankee fans are a bit less reactive to minor injuries? Or maybe every fan base has its doomsayers.

It is significant that the Yankees' rotation seems awfully... disrupted at the moment. I guess it's early enough for that not to matter, but won't be for long. Might be worth a couple games in the standings until everyone gets going.

I was okay not signing Rodon and felt we needed to spend time and money on our offense. Our SP continues to not be an issue in the playoffs so Rodon going down really doesn't change my calculus much. What would change my calculus is if we don't have a real closer, Bader doesn't get healthy fast, and we still run out IKF and Donaldson every game.

They’re definitely not starting IKF anymore, and Donaldson is living on borrowed time. Everyone has said (unofficially) that Peraza is the SS and that still leaves Gleyber/DJ/Volpe for 2B/3B.

And Holmes is the closer, but really the bullpen is not a concern.

Do y'all expect them to do the service time dance with Volpe?
Well, Peraza is going to be the SS, which leaves all of Gleyber/DJ/Donaldson/IKF still on the roster for 2B/3B. Hopefully they will trade Gleyber and IKF and start the season with Volpe, especially since if they do that and he is in the top 3 for Rookie of the Year, they get a high draft pick.

Are the Dodgers a landing spot for Gleyber? Lost their SS and salary should not be an obstacle

The Dodgers are already over the $233M reset number at $244M, so not exactly sure what they're doing. Gleyber would seem to have a number of potential landing spots, projected as a 4 WAR player, but I think Cashman doesn't want to sell cheaply.

They shouldn’t trade Gleyber.
They absolutely should, Volpe is ready, DJ is healthy, move Gleyber while he still has value (2 years of control left), play the kids in the middle IF and DJ at 3B. How is Volpe getting into the lineup with Gleyber still there?

They can put Cabrera in the OF and start Hicks or Ortega in LF, Stanton is in that mix also as is Florial. Cabrera hasn't played CF before but he looked good there the other day and he hadn't really played RF or LF before putting up good numbers there last season.

Pretty sure you need to be top 1 to get anything right now - 2nd & 3rd were supposed to be picks in the International Draft, but there still is no International Draft. Big jump from the 28th pick the Mariners got for JRod & the nothing that anyone else got.

There are other incentives for top 3 in MVP or Cy Young within the pre-arb period, which seems hard & like it just awards teams for having transcendently talented players, but oh well.

Oh, good point, thanks. So maybe they will try to keep him down for a bit and get an extra year of control.

Yeah, I looked it up, it is only 1st for RotY, but 2nd/3rd in MVP/CY get picks as well, if they finish there before arb eligible.

I think it would be more fun if they just gave you a draft pick at the end of the round of whatever place your qualifying guy finishes. & expand the ROY ballots to top 10 for additional fun. I would also get rid of the cap for # of picks per team (currently 1).

Volpe finishes 4th in AL ROY & Spencer Jones finishes 13th (& has 172+ days of service time)? Yankees get a pick after the 4th & 13th rounds.

The Yankees aren’t in a position where they can trade their second best offensive player, when they need offense.

There’s a solid chance that Volpe is better offensively right now, I don’t think you can really count on Gleyber for reliable consistent offense.

If Gleyber, DJ, Peraza and Volpe all got 500 healthy ABs this year, I’d guess that Gleyber would end up 3rd or 4th most valuable of the 4, and he’s the only one of those four who it makes sense to deal.

Cabrera played center field sometime this week because I saw a clip of him making a diving catch.

As far as the Gleyber debate, I'm just wary to trade a guy who is one of our best hitters. Especially with all of the injuries that DJLM has had the past few years. I'd rather get rid of IKF and JoDo and then work the other four through the three positions.

I’m OK with that too, especially since it looks like Cabrera may be needed in the OF.

They were going to be under the threshold, but Bauer was reinstated and his salary is back on the books.

We are all excited about Volpe but let’s not get crazy, he doesn’t even have a major league at bat yet. There is a long list of can’t miss top 10 prospects that have flopped.

I just can’t see the sense in trading the second best offensive player on a team desperate for offense.

Between DH, and all the infield positions, there should be enough at bats for the good players (which excludes IKF and Donaldson, and Cabrera messing around in the OF rotation.)
