Ugh, it's like 2012 all over again. Man I hope he can snap out of this before the regular season starts.

This is the first baseball ive watched in a while. why is he still in there? is there some reason he cant be relieved?
Was he supposed to have somebody warming from the moment Bard entered the game? He only faced four batters (and the minimum is three).
After he walked the leadoff guy and the second guy got a hit, it seems like a good time to get the pen up in an elimination game.
Why is Bard even on this team? He's creeping up on 38 years old, and he's had exactly one season below 4.20 xFIP in his last 10+ years. Is there really no one better than him who could pitch for USA?
I'm gonna say no. Otherwise he wouldn't be there. Lots of good US pitchers opted out (or were/are hurt or returning from injury).
thats the problem with the tournament - it’s not really the best players from each country. If team USA had its best arms, would a single pitcher on this roster still be on the team?
I mean, the fact that said season came last year might have a little to do with it. He was legit good in 2022.
Thing is, it is the best players from each country...except the US. He's now made three appearances in the WBC. 1.2 innings, 5 H, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 HBP.. He's faced 15 batters and gotten exactly four of them out. (plus one CS)
Quijada celebrating a called 3rd strike above the zone after the first called strike was a full ball above the zone. I hope we crush Venezuela. Let's go!

The last pitch was probably a strike, but the 2-0 pitch was not and changed the entire at bat.
I don’t think that last pitch typically gets called a strike in MLB (maybe 20% of the time?). Tucker thought it was clearly a ball. It was rising, 6 inches above the belt.
Meanwhile Miles Mikolas, one of the few competent starters on the roster, gets 2 mop-up innings against Canada (after being dicked around by DeRose) and nothing else.
It's not just the top flight US starters that didn't go. The other countries don't necessarily have their best starters either.
