Post rumors if you want, too, I guess.
Yesterday's trade has found its way into a few different threads, and there are probably more to come that won't necessarily deserve their own thread, so I figured we could have a place where we keep it all together.
For those who don't know, the Sox made a trade with the Yankees yesterday, sending Greg Allen and receiving a guy named Diego Hernandez. I like this trade.
Allen had an upward mobility clause that would have required him to be on the MLB roster yesterday, and with the way the Sox offense is playing that obviously wasn't going to happen. I like him as a player, but he's over 30 and doesn't really have a future with this organization, I don't think. He had a decent OBP in Worcester, and the 23/23 in steals is tantalizing, but with Duran looking like the real deal, and Allen being less than stellar defensively, the team just doesn't have a spot on the active roster for him. It will be rough watching him steal a million bases for the Yankees this year, but it is what it is.
Diego Hernandez is interesting. He had Trevor Story Surgery, so he won't pitch this year, but he is an 18 year old with a really big arm. As a 17 year old on the Yankees' Dominican Team last year (1.6 years younger than average), he put up 48 K:14 BB's and allowed 2 home runs over 34 innings as a starter and reliever (5 games started, 7 in relief), and put up a 2.10 ERA. Yankees signed him last January as an IFA, so he definitely feels like a lottery ticket, but it seems like about the best you could get for a guy like Allen, since the other option was releasing him.
