The playoffs in baseball have really become just random chaos. Build an 84 win team and see what happens.
Been like this for a while. Surely you remember the 06 Cardinals and 07 Rockies. Baseball should really just embrace it at this point, shorten the regular season to 100ish games, and then expand the playoffs to 16 teams. Good luck with that, I guess.

I might be out on this year, pretty sure it ends with Houston sweeping Arizona and I’ll hate it. Would love to be wrong!

I still find it crazy a sport like baseball has 3 and 5 game series in the playoffs while playing 162 games in the regular season.

Even the best teams are usually just 60/40 favorites, really should all be best of 7. Make the regular season a few games shorter, come on.
The NFL and NCAA playoffs are all single game elimination affairs. You have to draw the line somewhere.

At some point we have to recognize that playoff baseball and regular season baseball are two distinct things. It’s generally recognized in hockey.

I mean, wasn't it 20 years ago that Billy Beane declared that his shit didn't work in the playoffs?
And long before the '06 Cardinals, the 82-79 '73 Mets knocked off the 99-63 Big Red Machine in the NLCS. It's always been true to some degree, at least since MLB went to divisions in 1969.

Exactly. I’m sick of the “playoffs are a crap shoot” theory. The ‘06 Cardinals were aided by a very injured Mets team and deer in the headlights Tiger team, but were the better team in each of their matchups

Don’t use regular season wins to determine who should win a playoff series.

Baltimore just doesn't have the pitching yet for October. It's why losing 3-2 yesterday was so brutal
