All said, I liked it when Rosenthal reviewed in detail many reasons why the Astros’ run was at the beginning of the end, then disavowed the take. Classic reporter move.

I’m pretty sure Seager was mocked for going to the rangers (perhaps even by me). Guess that worked out. Deadlines deal don’t always have a huge impact- but seems like they did with this ranger team.

Montgomery was the get of the deadline the way he's really turned it on. And it's a bit of Yankee schadenfreude as Cashman found him expendable while Frankie Montas contributed zero, and Severino blew up this year.

The Rangers weakness is the bullpen. They can survive it against an offense like Arizona but I don’t know about Philly.
They also only have half a rotation right now. And their rookies seem to be hitting a wall, although that reversed a bit tonight.

It's a very incomplete team which you would expect a year out from finishing 68-94, giving deGrom 35M to get Tommy John. Yet...

Will Smith can become first to win 3 titles with 3 different teams, in 3 straight years, that's wild.

Also, slapping in the ALCS was so 19 years ago.

If Garcia gets just 2 RBI in the WS, he will set the record for most RBI in a single postseason.

The Mariners are my second-favorite team. I hope their front office is watching the Rangers' success and seeing how spending big in the offseason can be beneficial. Not always of course, but still.

Just read a stat and confirmed it - the Rangers went 50-52 in their last 102 games of the season.

We've had WC darlings recently like the 2019 Nats and 2022 Phils that started slow but were arguably the best team in baseball the 2nd half (also the 2021 Braves) that explained some of it. Completely the opposite with this group.

Baseball gods, what are you doing?

Also you probably don't want to trade your 1.02 WHIP, 12+K/9IP closer when you're in the WC race (with 3 WC)

The fabled 83-win 2006 Cardinals went 38-41 in the second half of their schedule. And going even farther back into their schedule, they actually peaked at 42-26 in mid-June, after which point they went 41-52. Their record after 8/31 was 12-17. Eight AL teams had more wins, and twelve MLB teams had more wins.

That team even outperformed their Pythag record by a few games! If the DBacks somehow win it all, they’d manage to do it despite having a negative run differential in the regular season. So far as I can tell, the 1987 Twins are the only team to win a World Series with a negative run differential in the regular season.

Without saying too much, Rangers were the best of the AL once they got rid of Tampa by my metrics...

I will say the whole thing is absolutely a crapshoot but the AL honestly turned out fairly predictably on a strictly personal level in the LDS and LCS.
