Pats have practice at 1:30, so we should know pretty quick which of their guys they had hang around.

Went unclaimed. If claimed on waivers, the player must be on the claiming team's active 53.

The reported 7 offers were to join another team's PS.

Seven offers? Aren't you either claimed or not?
Teams can wait until a player clears waivers before offering a contract.

The problem with claiming a player off waivers is that the claiming team must immediately find room on their 53, and they cannot put anyone on IR unless they want to lose that player for the season. So many teams wait for the waivers period to pass before attempting to sign released players.

Dumb question maybe, but is Zappe's contract/payment the same on the PS as it was when he was on the 53?
I don't think it matters. He will be on the 53. This was all just a way to keep players who would be claimed if they were released. Now they can some on the IR and have them back in 4 games.

No. The previous contract was terminated. PS has a lower minimum, though the Pats often choose to pay PS players the NFL minimum.

Kadlick's list + Pharms suggests two more spots.

Wouldn't mind Perkins and Taylor, but guessing that's unlikely as I am sure there are a ton of guys out there who had to travel and wouldn't make practice today.

I’m inferring the JJ Taylor era is over.
I really like that guy and am surprised he's not still with the team in some capacity. Not sure what they don't like about him. Always seems to make nice plays, is quick and shifty, can catch. Not an all-pro or anything, but a pretty useful change of pace RB.

And the Pats somehow managed to keep most of the key guys they cut so it looks like they kinda know what they're doing.

If I had to guess, maybe he's not good enough on ST to be the last RB?

I would guess that Zappe and Montgomery would be there first two to the 53 as IR cuts happen. Munson and Bledsoe might not be far behind that (ST).
Zappe for sure on the 53. Munson may be a elevation day of the game for as many times as they can do it until there's a spot for him on the 53. Reiff is an IR candidate, but not sure who else might be.

They seem to cycle through tiny backs like this periodically. Part of it definitely comes down to "what else can you do?" Are they good at getting separation on routes, blitz pickup, kick return & other ST units, etc. Some guys are and last a long time like Faulk, some guys aren't good at much else and end up somewhere else quickly (Woodhead).

https://www.patriots.com/news/patriots-sign-15-players-to-the-My cell is 1-617-894-0764 but I am not sure if I get a temporary number using it in the UK.-squad-x7482

15 players signed, all were in camp except Pharoah Brown.

S Joshuah Bledsoe, TE Pharaoh Brown, QB Malik Cunningham, OL James Ferentz, LB Joe Giles-Harris, RB Kevin Harris, RB Ty Montgomery II, LB Calvin Munson, LB Ronnie Perkins, WR Thyrick Pitts, OL Kody Russey, TE Matt Sokol, OL Andrew Stueber, P Corliss Waitman and QB Bailey Zappe
What happened to Pharms? He showed some promising work in the games.

The Zappe thing is like not complex. It's both (1) evidence that BB is like really freaking savvy about how to maximize these roster spots because he essentially got one more person on the 53 (Boutte? one of the new tackles? a chance that an injured guy, TT or Reiff, can come back later rather than take a redshirt year) and (2) evidence that Zappe doesn't in their eye have much of a future beyond being a meh back-up.

Something like 3% of players cut at this time of year get picked up on waivers, I think most if not all of the bubble guys they could let go in order to put Thornton and Reiff on IR would have come back. That Bill chose Zappe speaks way more to point number 2 than 1.

Depends on the bubble guy, about zero percent of the 84th guys got picked up and I assume a much higher percentage of the 54th guys got picked up. I'm not sure who else they could have gut who isn't at risk of getting picked up. But sure, the fact that Zappe isn't at risk of being picked up (hell they cut him before doing the long snapper games like they've done in the past) signals that they don't think the guy has any value to any other team and not a ton of value relatvie to starting fresh with a colt mccoy or whatever.
