People who spread false rumors on twitter should get a permanent brown check mark next to their name so that we forevermore know that they're full of shit.
Agreed. I don't know him, I consider all radio personalities to be varying levels of trolls, but if this isn't true the wording he uses is just the worst level of trolling. Say you hear something might be close if you want clicks, don't say it's finalizing while making up numbers. You hear a lot of nonsense thrown around in other sports like this, but it just feels wrong in hockey

Of course if he is indeed correct and the agent is just being coy I won't complain

FWIW, Friedman on his podcast said he thinks Keefe’s report was premature. Thinks that’s probably around what the contract will end up looking like, but they aren’t there yet.

Eventually, after seeing him succeed in so many places ,from St. Louis to Detroit -- I came to realize that Scotty Bowman must've been a great coach (even though I probably understand close to nothing about hockey coaching). So it was nice to see this in the Glob:
For his part, Montgomery altered his lines after the second period. He put David Pastrnak, who had only one shot in the first two periods, back with old pals Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. He then subbed in Hall for Pavel Zacha on the second line, where DeBrusk had moved to join David Krejci.
Montgomery, who said earlier this season that he learned his line juggling from the great Scotty Bowman, keeps crediting his players, be it for their leadership, or their key goals, in win after win. It has overshadowed his influence. He goes nearly to the extreme to credit the players.
And that *is* one thing I remember about Bowman. He seemed to make a lot of in-game moves that worked.

The Czechia line has been dreadful. Probably need to stay away from that one for a while.

179 minutes on ice:

67% Ozone start
Outshot 95-80
Outchances 89-84
Out highdanger chances 33-25
Out scored 9-8
xGF% 46%

It's one of the worst lines in hockey with 150+ minutes together by xGF%.

Anecdotally, Krejci looks horrifically slow and ineffective lately. Not sure if he's tired, hurt, or in a slump but he's looked real bad. Pasta has been in a bit of a slump and seems to be forcing and overthinking things, which happens. Zacha has been fine but he's not going to drive that line if the other two aren't up to it.

Part of it is they suck defensively. Pasta is a monster but since he has the puck a lot and is looking to create, he's going to turn the puck over a lot. That's kind of the reality of a player like him, it's not a knock. The problem then is they aren't good at getting it back once it's turned over.

He also turns it over a lot in really stupid ways with poor passes at weird spots on the ice or trying some weird no look thing that is easily picked off. He looks like he gets into those funks Marchand had a lot where he just is out of the game and barely going through the motions.

When was Marshy prone to disappearing? That's a Krech classic but I don't associate that with Marchand at all.

Plenty of games prior to covid year (it hasn’t happened a lot less since then) where Marchand would be out there just skating through a game early if he wasn’t feeling it or hadn’t gotten a good hit in. He would half ass line changes, be in his head and do a line change without thinking about situation, try to do stupid drop/back passes in bad locations, or he would not have done a lot and decided he needed to hit someone to hit them and get a penalty, etc.

You see little flashes of it rarely these days but it used to be more frequent.

Yeah my buddy and I would often refer to those as the "drunk Marchand" games. Puck just bouncing off his stick all the time, not skating with any real effort for a period or two, and then the light would go off and he'd do something ridiculous in the 3rd and be a menace again. 2018 and 2019 I'd see these show up every few games from him, but it never really lasted - just a couple periods where it's like "Dude, what's going on?"

Hell, Saturday against Buffalo was like this. Horrible first two periods then a goal and an assist in the 3rd.

Marchand's been a little off at 5x5 this season. His production is way down, 1.59 points per 60 which is the lowest of his career. A lot of his points are coming on the PP.

I think it's mostly just working through returning from double hip surgery. Most of his shot and chances rates are in line with his career. His shooting percentage at 5x5 is only 6% which is well below his career norms (typically over 10%).

And a friend and I would text about "stoned Marchand" games. As you noted, though, that was 4-5 seasons ago.

Krejci and Zacha appear to have a similar sort of "anti-chemistry" as DeBrusk and Coyle have had:

Together: 10 to 10 actual goals, 8.9 to 9.1 expected goals, 68.7% OZone starts, 214:28 TOI
Zacha w/o Krejci: 15 to 8 actual goals, 11.7 to 8.8 expected goals, 43.9% OZone starts, 246:12 TOI
Krejci w/o Zacha: 9 to 5 actual goals, 8.7 to 7.9 expected goals, 57.6% OZone starts, 216:06 TOI

Also have to think that Krejci may have some lingering injury issue from when he missed a couple games.

Where is the best place to find game by game face off stats ? Apart from looking at individual game logs , as I am a fat lazy bastard. There was a span of 2 or 3 games where it seemed like Krejci was around. 3-12 in the face off dot. I think one of those was in a game where the team had the audacity to not even pick up a point.

Krejci is 21-23 in their regulation losses this year. His worst game was a 2-10 showing against Florida a few weeks ago when they won 7-3.

Feels like he has a hard time going to his right which will hopefully resolve as the hip continues to heal/strenghten

DeBrusk's injury would align with the Wagner call-up. They don't have the cap space to call up Wagner on his own so the only 2 options are either LTIRing a player (DeBrusk) or swapping Smith and Wagner. They could send Smith down, keep DeBrusk on the roster or regular IR, but if DeBrusk is indeed injured, that would leave them without a spare forward while on the west coast which they probably wouldn't want.

A DeBrusk injury may open the door for Lysell to get a cameo. I know he got hurt at some point in the tournament, but Sweden is in the semi's today and could be knocked out.

Depending on the nature of the injury he may not make it back until the playoffs (or close to start).

It does open the door for a Kucherov maneuver.

It would have to be a 4 month injury in order to do that. It might be stretching it.

Apparently he broke a bone in his leg blocking a shot in the second period...and scored the game winner in the third. Let the legend grow.

Seems unlikely that the injury is that serious given how he played in the 3rd period and seemed in good spirits after the game. Probably more like a month or two, which is a shame given how well he has been playing.

FWIW, Wagner wasn’t at practice. Doesn’t mean he’s not with them, but at this point he hasn’t been added to the roster.

I just hope they use this opportunity to see if Lysell can help this years team instead of just plugging in Wagner.

Between here and everywhere.
I mean…this could open the door for Vrana….

List of players with a higher 5v5 goals/60 rate than Vrana over the last three seasons? Auston Matthews.

Then they should be targeting Matthews. :)

I actually hope that Lysell gets a shot. Let's see what he can do. Won't even need to switch positions.

It would be a slam dunk if he didn’t have a $5.75 million cap hit next season. It would be hard to add that, pay Pastrnak, and figure out how to round out the roster. They can only have so many $5 million + wingers.
