One thing about this Lakers team... man they play really good defense, and they play really hard on that end. I respect that a team with their stars plays so hard on D, much like the 08 Celtics in that respect.
yeah, I'll say, living in LA. and being an LBJ fan I see a lot of them, and this has been consistent throughout the year even with all the injuries. I had to respectively disagree with HRB a few pages back after the game #1 loss. They haven't lost grit/determination -- their problem is injuries. Of course, luck of the non-Irish, LBJ being 80% or so has been countered by CP3 being even less whole. Be interesting to see if LBJ keeps getting healthier, as he does seem incrementally better peaking with the way he roasted Crowder a few times in the 2nd half of game 3. It'd be a hell of a fortunate draw for them if they get through this series due, in part, to CP3 injury, and then are close to fully healthy for the Nuggets or Blazers after that.

Something that was really unexpected was that throughout the regular season Thibs basically wanted to do nothing less than play Obi Toppin, and yet so far in the postseason he has given him a real run and he has played well.
He has gradually played better down the stretch, I'm not sure the minutes have changed too much. He was pretty much unplayable for a long time as we discussed here, consistently looking as lost on a NBA court as any player I can remember on both ends, he couldn't pass the ball fast enough every time. But gradually (with very limited minutes) he has figured out how he fits in better and better and his confidence seems to rise almost every game. He has been a good defender for a while but his offense has been coming more recently, Clyde said they should start feeding him last game and he never says that (he was correct). And Obi still only got 12 minutes last game despite being a rare bright spot in the first half, IMO he should be getting 20 at least as he certainly doesn't seem to have stamina issues.

My preferences for NY's starting PG tonight, Thibs said he hadn't decided the lineup as of a bit ago:

Quickley (no one can guard Trae really (Bullock?) but he has been one of Quickley's role models and so at least he has watched endless film on him, and he can attack Trae at the other end and maybe get fouls on him although he should take a cue from Trae that the throwing the hands in the air when you are bumped mostly does not fly in the postseason)
Rose (I am worried about him getting into foul trouble or playing too many minutes, play him a ton but let him come off the bench as he is used to)
Burks (maybe NY can't afford to save all his offense for the fourth quarter, they need a third threat on the starters to take a little focus off Randle/Barrett)
Ntikilina (in the Payton role, but hopefully at least good at the defense side, he has caused Trae problems in the past)
Payton (grudgingly)

Also that would give Quickley some minutes without Rose/Burks, who have both been great but that doesn't leave much to do for young IQ when Thibs inexplicably brings them all in very overlapping.

Clippers come out on FIRE in a desperation must-win game!

Oh wait, no. That was DALLAS who did this. Up 14-2 in first 3 min.

I feel like I’m watching a preseason game with these announcers and game presentation

Hawks game was great. Tons of energy in the building. A couple of great moments—when Bullock fouled Trae late in the fourth, then got charged with a technical. Trae turned to the crowd, waving his arms. Whipped everyone into a frenzy. He loved the moment.

The other—also in the fourth—Capela gets a block, turns to the crowd and does the Mutombo finger wave. 15000 people were ready to run through a wall for him.

ESPN thought so much of this game the team is broadcasting from Bristol. As opposed to the lead crew who went to TD Garden. In replaying the tussle that was brought up by the PBP guy, that they didn't know exactly how the contact went since they are "in the studio".

Capela's finger wag was great. He's Congolese too.

Porzingis averages 20 a game every year but I don’t think I’ve seen him have a good game in like 5 years

Scroll back a few pages to the post game 2 talk
Dude cant go full out anymore. Ive watched him for 2 years. I'll put it right here on this page.

He's also currently getting outplayed by a kid who couldn't outrun a parked car.

He's an ok player who got a lot of hype because he played in NY and because he's tall.
As a 22 year old 7'3" player averaging 20 a game on 40% 3 and above average D I think there was some reasonable hope he was going to keep ascending to another level.

But post ACL tear and meniscus tear without offensive growth at age 25 and now below average D, I'm way less optimistic on his future. He's not bad, but might just be a solid starter more than anything else.

around the way
Was nice to see the Celtics come out and play like their asses were on fire. After the initial Brooklyn onslaught, they played like 40 minutes of hard, smart basketball on both ends. I'm grateful that they didn't lay down like dogs like the Miami Spoelstras.

We'll still lose in 5 probably, but I'll remember this one.

He has 77 points on like 70% shooting in 83 minutes in the last 2 games, if that's not going full out I'm not sure what is. Also not sure what the shame is in getting outplayed by a guy that every team would trade any single player off their roster for.

Willey Cauley-Stein shoves Terrance Mann in the face hard enough to push him to the ground, after a review the refs call it a "physical taunt" and assessed a technical.
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ3L0cC9wC4

Notably, Cauley-Stein got a flagrant 1 earlier in the game for another foul on Mann, so calling a flagrant there would have been an ejection.

One step to improve replay would be to broadcast the entire conversation between the game crew and the review center, so we can hear how the hell they justify some of these in real time, and maybe shame them into being less ridiculous.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned or where to put it but RIP Mark Eaton, 64.

Apparently went for a bike ride last night and something happened. No foul play suspected.

Really? After what happened to Shawn Bradley? How many 7"4+ guys getting into serious bike accidents in Utah can happen in one year?

IDK but this would be a great weekend for Karl Malone to take up cycling.

It's crazy to think Miami beat Milwaukee in the bubble after that beat down. What an ass kicking.

You mean it wasn't hit-and-run; he just fell off or had a heart attack?
