Extra year definitely adds value although Brady’s decision will determine just how valuable. All in all, I think both teams got the player who was best suited for their needs.

Also possible the Broncos didn’t want to deal Sanders within the AFC... and possibly vice versa on Sanu.

He's a free agent at the end of the year and the Broncos clearly don't care about winning this season or they wouldn't have traded him in the first place. I can't imagine they care about anything but highest price.

I saw some comment from the 49ers that they were in on Sanu, but then the price went to a 2nd round pick and they didn't have one, so they settled on Sanders.

Yes. Given the expected location of the picks given up by the two teams for the two WRs, the 49ers would have needed to add an additional 3rd rounder to equal the Patriots 2nd.
