It's back breaking for this team, perhaps, although he's far from the first Pats halfback to be essentially run-only. LeGarette Blount caught 7 passes in 2016, while carrying the ball 299 times. Guys like Stevan Ridley and BenJarvus Green-Ellis rarely were used in the passing game.

Even in "2019", Derek Henry, second leading rusher in the league at the moment, has all of 18 catches this year. Granted, most of the top 10 rushers also have a considerable number of receptions.

Leads me back to my point that Michel is a particularly bad fit for this Pats edition. But I'm not ready to call him a bust or write off his career, until he gets a reasonably competent OL to run behind again.
I look at the Pats' history of having a very run focussed RB-even Corey Dillon who was a veteran, a good receiver, and the clear full time franchise back only had 15-22 receptions a year--and think that maybe we're wrong in thinking that it's a big problem to have a run only halfback. Down distance game situation offensive personnel and defense personnel go a long way to telegraphing run or pass, and the fact that BB seems unbothered by having a run only HB year after year after year suggests that he doesn't see it as a huge tell.

Obviously a big problem if your run only HB only gets 3.5 ypc.

If only NE had drafted the run first RB at Georgia and not the guy that was better at pass protection but not much else...

Regarding trick plays, I know teams don't like things to be "on film" but aren't Pats beyond that point right now?

May not need them for the Bengals but what are the downsides to put in more of those plays, say against the Bills?

If I am reading this right... the opposite of "not showing them anything"... show them 'everything' so they have to prepare for it? So the DB is a bit slower closing on a pitch, because the WR is streaking deep... ? Or am I overthinking this

Regarding “trick plays”... just about every team runs them at some point just about every game nowadays.
We’re the Chiefs desperate having Kelce take the snap when he ran in for the TD?

They’re more common now but many still think they’re one offs

Its hard to tell the real ability of our RB's for a number of reasons not the least of which is that our OL is a mess, especially at the center position. Mason has had a terrible year and the coordination of the OL looks disjointed. A major strength has been reduced to a critical liability. Clearly, there are other major issues with this offense but it starts with an OL that has underperformed to a disastrous level

The last two seasons the Patriots were involved in a "cheating" (note the quotation marks) scandal (2007, 2014), they went to the Super Bowl.

The last season the Patriots lost to the Chiefs (2017), the Patriots went to the Super Bowl.

The last season the Patriots lost two December games (2018), the Patriots went to the Super Bowl.

The last three seasons the Bills won at least 9 games (2004, 2014, 2017), the Patriots went to the Super Bowl.
