as you indicated, I think the answer was noHope the prez is sober this time.
My main problem with application of the rules based upon what is seen on TV is that it is not handed out in an even handed manner. Many of us criticized the Fox coverage of the US Open because they showed very few members of the field. As such, a separate set of rules applied to the Dustin Johnson's and Jordan Speith's vs. the Rob Oppenheims. It is as if the sport has instant replay but only for a portion of the players.I agree. I watched it live and was horrified when they showed it on TV a hole later and the only person that saw it up until that point was the cameraman who was 100x zoomed into the ball.
As far as I know, these are the two most likely ways for him to retain his card. Needless to say, he needs a really strong finish in one, if not two, of these last events to guarantee himself anything. If not, it's back to that playoff format again, where he finished #25 last year. Whatever happens, can't say that this season has been anything but awesome for him. If nothing else, the money he's made this year will be enough to at least keep him going for a few more years. So Rob is sitting at 140th on the fedex cup point list and 143rd on the money list.
It appears he has potential to play in 5 events before the fedex cup tournament starts - Barbasol, RBC Canadian, Travelers, John Deere, and The Whyndham.
I am trying to understand how he can keep his card for next year.
Scenario 1 - He gets to top 125 on one of those lists and qualifies for the Barclays and automatically keeps his card for 2016-2017 season.
Scenario 2 - He doesn't make the top 125 and he once again goes to the 150 person field - three tournament playoff, where the top 25 players get a card. This is comprised of players 126-200 on the cup point list, and top 75 from the web.com tour?
Are there any other options for Rob that I am missing?
Beef? Dubuisson? Donaldson? Agree that it is hard to see Clarke passing on Kaymer for any of them. Westwood is pretty close to a lock - he has pretty well earned it, he has loads of experience, and he goes way back with Clarke in the Chubby Chandler crew. The only way I could see someone else entering the discussion would be if a surprising European wins Gold in Rio - someone like Harrington or Lingmerth or Luiten.Soren Kjeldsen is first man out so he is probably a safe pick. Lee Westwood is right behind Kjeldsen and probably gets picked anyway with his history in the Ryder Cup. Final pick is probably a toss up between Martin Kaymer and Shane Lowry. Maybe edge to Kaymer?
I am hoping to make it out on Sunday-- hopefully I will be able to follow Rob O around late in the day.Rob O. tees off hole 10 at 8:50 a.m. In Cromwell on Thursday. I'm too busy to get to the Travelers this year, but hoping some some Soshers do. It would be fun to follow him around for a full round. Hope he tears it up this weekend.
Meh. They're killing it in apparel, not surprising. This is kind of a shocker. I wonder how much Tiger Woods' career tanking had to do with this?
Wonder what happens to Rory's contract and obligations now? They obviously have to let him play other clubs, but do they still have to pay him the same just to wear the apparel? Obviously something has to change, I'm more just interested in the details.Meh. They're killing it in apparel, not surprising.
It's not Tiger tanking, it's signing Rory to $250M and having him tank while already having Tiger.
They have to still be on the hook for the money. Nike is a lifestyle brand, so they'll probably try to use him generically, especially if he starts winning again. Which is generally how they use most of their athletes anyway.Wonder what happens to Rory's contract and obligations now? I'm sure they're still on a very large hook, I'm just wondering if there were individual components hat handled equipment and apparel. I'd have to imagine Nike had at least an inkling three years ago that they might end up doing this at some point in the near future and probably protected themselves in some capacity. I'd imagine after the celebrated struggles adjusting to new gear he's not pleased but if he still gets all his Nike money, he just got a nice bump to go sign with Callaway Ping or Titleist who don't have apparel branches. Curious to see where he lands. They have to still be on the hook for the money. Nike is a lifestyle brand, so they'll probably try to use him generically, especially if he starts winning again. See, that's the nerdy little details I'm wondering about. Of course my brain works weird and I can be watching a round and suddenly something clicks and I say "hey, Els switched to Admas, he used to be Callaway". I don't know why. What Brand will he wear on his hat?
