12-4, either the 1 or 2 seed.

Just like it is every year.

Then, if they stay healthy, they have as good a shot as anyone to win it all.

I know, break out the world's tiniest violin, but for ticket holders, THREE workday primetime game just sucks. Getting to / from Foxboro blows enough on a Sunday, forget about it when it is regular work day, plus then you get home late and have to work the next day. Ick.

Didn't the Pats play the Lions on Thanksgiving a few years ago? Why is everybody so hung up on the Pats playing on Thanksgiving?

Jeez.  All NFC Everything for Thanksgiving.
It was all NFC last year too with Green Bay Detroit, Philly Dallas and Seattle San Fran. What does the NFL have against the AFC?

So when exactly did they change the whole FOX/NFC plus NFC on the road CBS/AFC plus AFC on the road?

Usually a team from the AFC played on Thanksgiving and that game was covered by CBS (being that bith Detroit and Dallas are in the NFC). And how do they decide who gets what game now?

They changed the whole AFC has to be included on Thanksgiving Day last year. Last year was the first year in about 40 years that no AFC team played on Thanksgiving.

I like watching football on thanksgiving. It's better when it's a game I care about. I would have cared a lot about Dallas vs the Pats.

Actually on second thought, I am more relaxed watching Pats blowouts, so maybe it's a good thing they don't play Dallas on Thanksgiving. I would have enjoyed Dallas-Eagles (repeat of last year) or Dallas-Giants. The current slate of games that day is putrid. The Bears may lose 95-6.

2010. Two years later they played the Jets on Thanksgiving.

We're hung up because we collectively have reached Michael Jordanesque levels of inventing insults.

I'm quite the opposite. There's no way that I'm watching football on the greatest holiday in the world, so having the Pats miss it is fantastic. The Sunday after with a leftover sandwich is a vastly superior day for my team to play.

Every team gets at least 1 prime time game -- I'm not sure how good the ratings for Jax vs. Titans will be, nor for SL vs. TB

Washington and Houston have zero 4PM starts

And I'm surprised KC would give up a home game (playing in London)

Seconded. Prime time games suck to attend, especially with the traffic shitshow that the Blade provides. 1pm is ideal.

I'm also glad they don't play on Thanksgiving. I'm probably going to be in Dallas and there was no way I was going if it was on turkey day. I definitely wasn't going to spend the year's best holiday away from family.

It's a fun/interesting exercise to go through the Pats schedule and replace the team they are playing with the name of that team's starting QB.
  • Rothlisberger
  • Orton/Manuel/other?
  • Bortles
  • Romo
  • Luck
  • Geno Smith
  • Tannehill
  • RGII/maybe other by then
  • Eli Manning
  • Orton/Manuel/other?
  • Peyton Manning
  • Who knows for the Eagles?
  • Mallet/Hoyer/other?
  • Mettenberger/maybe a rookie?
  • Geno Smith
  • Tannehill
There are a lot of question marks and a lot of hot steaming piles of garbage on that list.  There are four teams where the starter is unknown right now (Bills, Eagles, Titans, Texans).  The two Manning brothers who last year both seemed to be regressing rapidly.  Romo and his history of back problems.  RGIII and his history of injuries and suck.  Geno Smith.

Very few teams on that schedule are entering the season without some question marks at the QB position.  Probably just the Colts, Steelers, Dolphins and maybe Jaguars and Cowboys (depending on Romo's back).  The QB landscape in the NFL is not good.

Never leave us Tom.  Please play forever.

I like combining nice things.  Thanksgiving, family, great food and football go together very well.  A lot of people, in fact, make watching football a big part of their Turkey Day.  Adding the Pats to the mix just amps it up.  In short, in my case at least, it's not about not enjoying Thanksgiving; it's about making the football part the best it can be.

That said, this schedule seems all around favorable to the Pats and I don't think we have much to complain about.  Three prime time weekday games at Gillette is undoubtedly a hassle.  Then again, if they weren't the BEST TEAM IN THE NFL, we probably wouldn't have this inconvenience.

The primetime game for each team is a rule.

I wouldn't yet be hung up on start times, there's a whole lotta flexing coming.

On the radio in Pittsburgh this morning they were crying that Pittsburgh has to go to New England to start the season.  They were saying that the NFL is doing that because they won't have Bell due to his 3 game suspension.  Funny.

And they won't get to see Blount score 3 TDs and flex at their sideline.

It's a tradeoff.

I just don't buy the you can blow out a team at will because you're mad. There's plenty of examples of f u touchdowns and stuff like Anthony Smith. They'll beat them because they're a better team. Maybe they don't take the foot off the gas or have an f u play like they did against Smith and rub it in but the game won't be over at half becaise they're super angry!

The BB speech about the parade route before the super bowl is a great example of motivation but does anyone believe they won that game because of a parade route? If so they should have got more mad and upset before the two Super Bowls they lost or more mad at the Ravens. Or that week they lost to the hated Rex Ryan in the playoffs.
You obviously missed the Cincinnati game last year.

That's funny. I'm sure they'd much rather play in Baltimore without Bell instead. Oh wait what's that? They play the lowly Rams and Niners in their next 2 games before Bell conveniently comes back for the first Ravens game? Ha.

Ben Volin's extended thoughts on the schedule: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/04/21/patriots-get-prime-time-schedule-for/Si2MdeargMwvCv8XEq5uIM/story.html

I do feel for the season ticket holders. Not a great season to be traveling to Gillette on nights and weekdays... Although if that's the trade off for another Super Bowl champion schedule I'll take it.

No obvious candidates for the Pats to spend a week away from the facility (like they did between the Green Bay/San Diego games last year). I wonder whether Belichick would consider spending the week between @ Dallas and @ Indy in the Indianapolis area? Probably not, but I wouldn't put it past him, especially given the media circus that week. Might be nice to keep the team sequestered in a hotel in Indiana and practicing at a facility without a regular media room to minimize distractions.

Count me as another who does not want the Pats to play on Thanksgiving, ever.  I like watching football on Thanksgiving, but I like having games on with teams that I don't really care about, where I might place a casual wager or two to make things interesting, and watch it in the background as I manage all of the other shit that happens on that day with kids and families and so forth.  Pats games are stressful and I need to sit down and concentrate on them.  For me that is hard to do on Thanksgiving.

As a ticket holder I also hate the prime time home games, but I remember the days when the Pats were never on MNF.  My favorite thing in the world might be cracking the first beer in the parking lot sometime around 10 am before the 1 pm Sunday start, but I can't get too upset about the league and the networks wanting the Pats in primetime.

I'd normally agree with the "No Pats Games on Thanksgiving" crowd, but that butt fumble game was just an awesome ending to a good day.  If they want to perform like that on turkey day each year, no problem.

I'll take the night game on Thanksgiving. That beats basically every other possible Thursday since i have the next day off. Playing one of the 2 day games on thanksgiving is what i don't like. Too much going on to focus enough on a Pats game
