Man, I'm jealous of Canadians sometimes. The regular season ends and instantly those without playoffs are onto more hockey somewhere else.

Eichel has been invited (as was Jimmy Vesey), but aside from that I have seen nothing about it. Too busy watching our women win the worlds I guess.  :D

Three top college NHL prospects, including high-profile Detroit Red Wings draft pick Dylan Larkin of the University of Michigan, have committed to play for the USA at the World Championships.
Nashville Predators prospect Jimmy Vesey of Harvard and Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick Mike Reilly of the University of Minnesota also are expected to be on the roster. Former University of New Hampshire player Steve Moses, a 36-goal scorer for Jokerit in the Kontinental Hockey League, also will play for the USA.

I mean, that Minnesota potential FA D is decent.  So that's something.  Christ we are relying on Byfuglien to be a contributor.  Oh well, nobody cares.

Well Day 1 ended with both the U.S. and Canada having victories. The U.S. downed Finland 5-1 and Canada beat Latvia 6-1. Was travelling back from Boston after the Sox/Jays series so missed the games on TV but happy to note the two Nova Scotia guys scored half of Canada's goals.

Interesting that TSN is broadcasting every game of the top 6 countries , 56 in total.

Well, it's not like they have a lot to do on their 5 channels in May these days. Gord's gotta work somehow.

Also buried in the Canada-Latvia game is that Kaspars Daugavins scored Latvia's only goal.

Well yesterday the U.S. struggled with Norway edging them 2-1.

Today Canada had their way with the Germans and scored a 10-0 win.
Here is Crosby's game winning short-handed goal.

Taylor Hall scored a hat-trick, Cody Eakin marked twice, while Sidney Crosby, Aaron Ekblad, Claude Giroux, Tyler Ennis and Matt Duchene all found the net as Canada cruised to a convincing 10-0 victory over Germany at the World Hockey Championship. Martin Jones made 16 saves to earn the shutout for Canada, who moved to 2-0 for the tournament.

Game ends 4-2 with an empty net goal. Well this little heralded U.S. team is playing pretty solid hockey so far in this tournament and have improved their record to 3-0. The have beaten the only other strong teams as well is you don't count Slovakia.  Canada plays the host Czechs later this afternoon.

Canada ran their record to 5-0 on Saturday but not without a scare. Going into the third period with a 3-1 lead it appeared like they thought they could coast their way to a win but the French fought back to tie the game and forced Canada to score the winner on a powerplay to secure a 4-3 win. Tyler Seguin was the player of the game for Canada scoring two goals.

Jack Eichel scored with 28 seconds left in OT to give the U.S. a 5-4 win over Slovakia. It gives the U.S. first place in their division and they will play the Swiss in the QFs.

Hat trick for Seguin in a 9-0 win and the US beat the Swiss 3-1 to advance to the semifinals. Sweden and Russia just started.

Canada earned a spot in the Gold Medal game this morning blanking the Czechs 2-0. They also hit a cross bar, 2 goal posts and missed a 2-0 breakaway. The Czech goalie was their top player but Jagr even at his age was awesome as well. Canada outshot their opponents 41-23 but decided to shut down the game in the third outshooting the Czechs 6-5. Taylor Hall and Jason Spezza scored for the Canucks. They will play the winner of the U.S./Russia game for the Gold.

It was already 4-0 for Russia when I got home and the Russian goalie was Player of the Game for Russia so does that mean the game was closer than the score  indicates? Anyway I think the U.S. team and their fans should be very pleased with their performance in this tourney especially after most observers didn't give them much of a chance. Good luck in the Bronze Medal game against the Czechs.

I didn't watch it but the USA/Russia game was scoreless through 2, and the shots were pretty even at that point.    Not sure we had the right guys to match up vs. Ovechkin and Malkin.

Kesler, Stepan, Callahan and Kane had schedule conflicts. Nice game, Ovi.

Well congrats to the U.S. for winning the Bronze, I don't think very many gave them a chance at the beginning of this event so these guys did a great job. Well done! Now for the big game.

Wow, not even close Canada wins 6-1 to capture Gold. Could have been even worse, Russia was held to just 1 shot in the second period. Crosby becomes a member of the Triple Gold Club and Canada holds the Olympic, World and World Jr. Championships at the same time. When Giroux and Crosby were on the ice together, it was magic. As you might tell, I am pretty happy. Claude Giroux was named Player of the Game for Canada. By going unbeaten in the tournament Canada wins an additional $1,3 million dollars, hope to be given to youth hockey.
MVP of the Tournament was Jagr.

Not a coincidence.
Russia managed to win the worlds last year (and two other times) with Ovechkin.  My guess is that his presence was not the reason than Canada pummeled them today.

You can't add guys THAT late when the rest of the team has been playing together for two weeks and have it work.
