Agree....If they have to dedicate 20 mil to Wilson and have to let Lynch go for any reason they won't be as good.

Maybe Tom Brady Jr. takes a Brady-style deal with a more modest cap charge?

Seattle is a great team. Last night showed how freaking hard it is to win once, let alone twice.

However I agree that the complexion of their team is going to change when they have to pay Wilson $20M and it will definitely change if they let Beast go (which I think they should).

It's hard to get to the Super Bowl, and while the Hawks aren't going to all of a sudden miss the playoffs, I don't understand how they are the favorite to win it all next year in the books.
New England in Super Bowls XXXVIII/XXXIX was the last team to make it to two Super Bowls in a row.
Green Bay in Super Bowls XXXI/XXXII was the last team to win in year one and lose in year 2 (like the Seahawks this year).
Buffalo in XXVII/XXVIII was the last losing team to make it back to the Super Bowl the following year.

In other words, it's damn hard to do what the Seahawks did this season.  And it would be even rarer (statistically speaking) for them to make it back next season.  I don't have the time at the moment to go back and look, but my recollection is that it is more common (in the last 15 years or so) for the Super Bowl loser to fail to make the playoffs the subsequent year.  It's not just about the fact that sometimes a team gets to the Super Bowl on a lucky run and don't have the depth to return, there are just so many things that can go wrong (cough, Bernard Pollard, cough).

Really impressed with Seattle on the whole. Carroll took a risk at the end of the first half that paid off and was praised effusively, the one at the end of the second half did not. It's how he coaches, and it's been pretty successful for them.  Everyone here knows how hard it is to get that close and just fall short, the Pats almost did it for the 3rd SB in a row.  Seattle will be going to another in the next couple of seasons.

They're the opening favorite by the betting line for next year just ahead of NE and GB

That makes a lot of sense.  If they keep Lynch they really aren't going to lose much from this year's team--the key free agents are Maxwell, Carpenter and Kevin Williams.

Yeah, they're in great shape for next year, done a great job drafting, developing and signing a great core  -- people are crazy not to give them more respect after that showing. Thank god for the Lane and Avril injuries, absolutely crucial.

I didn't mean in re last night's game...I meant moving forward. Most of that team will be back.

By the way, on the flip of that, Bruce Irvin sure is a punk.

Could I politely request a thread title change? They no longer have a belt to defend.

I'll post this here since very little of this post is of great interest to a Patriots fan today.  Russell Wilson is a very impressive QB.  The stats don't often jump off the page, but man that guy just makes plays.  The comparisons to a young Brady are apt in the sense that you feel like the guy is crazy lucky until you watch enough to see that he's consistently making the big play whenever it needs to be made.  Those downfield throws are accurate, timely, and good reads -- it's hard to say how much of that is scheme and how much is the QB, but they identified the openings and took their chances well with great throws to unheralded players.

The only part of the game that makes little sense to me is how little Wilson scrambled.  I'm sure the Patriots did a lot defensively to try to contain (especially on the option), but he made the Patriots most athletic linebacker look silly on more than one occasion in the game.  I'm legitimately surprised by how much they seem to want to keep him in the pocket and feel they're scarier and more dynamic when you have to truly consider that he's going to tuck it and run with frequency.  I understand wanting to develop him as a passer, but I think his ability to run makes him unique and far more effective.

Wilson has the dedication and awareness to work on his game, like Brady did, and evolve into one of the best QBs in the league.  Much like his opposite number last night, he was somewhat carried to his first title by otherworldly defense and special teams, and was good enough to make a couple plays and not screw anything up.  He did his job, but he wasn't exceptional.  His playoff run this year, he showed flashes of being more consistently exceptional with his passing - and like you say, his hit rate on "big plays" is really extraordinary.  I'm sure as he gains a bit more experience, continues training hard and hits his prime, he'll end up a top QB in the NFL.

And he already broke off a long-term relationship that wasn't with someone he wanted to spend his life with.  After being overlooked coming out of college despite having a great year at a great school and leading some miracle wins.  I mean, the closest comp for his career path really is Tom Brady.  We may end up with a Luck-vs-Wilson debate (or Rodgers-vs-Wilson) in ten years' time.

Russell Wilson is a stud.  That throw was right on the money.  We can debate whether the play should have been called, but it was a money throw, but just a phenomenal play by Butler.  Just like Brady's throw to Gronk was right on target but Wagner made a terrific play.  Sometimes the defense makes a great play.

Of course, Wilson is very soon going to cost Seattle a TON of money.  Try winning when your QB is making $15-18 million instead of $2 million.

Ian Rapoport was reporting that Wilson was looking for a deal paying him more than any other player in the league.

If we're talking out near mid-field, you are correct. The throw was in a great place for a receiver to catch and run with it without breaking stride. However, at the goal line, that throw needs to be lower and closer to Lockette's body to enure that only Lockette has a chance to catch that ball.

Ok, Google is failing me here.  Can any of the resident Seahawks explain why the team comes out to that music?  I remember it from the SB against the Steelers, it was puzzling to me then, and I still don't get it.

This.

I'm still crushed.  I don't know when I'll get over this.  I've avoided coming back in here for 2 days and it helped a little.

The Hawks also have to deal with poached Coaches as well.  You win.....people take your talent.

That as much as anything makes repeating difficult.

Isnt Pete Carroll regarded as a great motivator.....but not really an Xs and Os guy?  Taking a guy like Quinn (who is a really good Xs and Os guy) out out of the equation may hurt more then many realize.
