Josh Hamilton, off to a hot start, lands on the DL for 6-8 weeks from a headfirst slide into 1b last night. That contract is looking horrendous.

Adam Jones just quoted on YES as saying, with complete disregard for his sister's sexual health, that Jeter is "the kind of guy you want your sister to bring home and marry".

Is he blaming the 1B coach?

I've been impressed at how lively Beckett's stuff looks in tonight's Dodgers game.

Even lively stuff gets hit hard when you throw it down the middle.

Harper finally started hitting tonight. Crushed a ball over the LF foul pole into the third deck, and had a really nice opposite field hit as well. Both hits were off lefties.

Ryan Zimmerman's arm looks pretty bad right now. There's just no strength. I suspect Rendon will be the starting 3B in Washington before the season is over. Speaking of Rendon, I know he's been great lately, but walking him to get to Jayson Werth did not end well at all. Werth had the come-from-behind grand slam in the 8th to put the Nats up 10-7. There weren't a ton of people left at the end of the nearly four hour game, but it was pretty exciting for an April game in DC on a chilly weeknight.

I can't believe how bad Joe Nathan has been. Blew another save tonight, a 3 run save even.

It was the RF foul pole, but I think you knew that since you also referred to getting an opposite field hit as well. That was a really good game though, I was glad I watched it even though here in Florida I was stuck with the godawful Marlins broadcast. Yuck.

Tigers back ahead as VMart goes deep on a 96 MPH cutter from Jansen.

Not much to fall back on in that bullpen either. Chamberlain (who just gave up a single to the only hitter he face). Al Alburquerque who walks guys at a rate of about 6 / 9 innings. and a whole bunch of junk.
Same old bullpen issues for the tiggers.

EDIT: of course those two (plus Krol) then shut down the dodgers heart of the order for the win.

Whoops. Apparently I had 'left' stuck in my head with the hits off lefties comment and opposite field hit queued up and ready to go. That's the first time I've witnessed someone hit a ball up to the third deck at Nats Park in person.

Danny Salazar through 3.2 IP (11 outs) has recorded 10 K and the only other out was someone thrown out at second trying to stretch a hit. Unfortunately, he's also given up 6 hits, 2 walks, 5 ER, and 2 homers. He's also at 93 pitches already...

Edit: he's done.

Trumbo doesn't look great in the OF, which isn't surprising but still worth noting.

Great 9th inning drama in Rays/Reds. David Price breezing into the the 9th, up 2-0.  Gives up a HR to Votto to lead off 9th and is pulled.  Balfour has now loaded the bases with 2 outs.

Madison Bumgarner just smoked a grand slam on the first pitch, deep into to the LF bleachers in San Francisco to put the Giants up 6-3 in the 4th. I love pitcher grand slams.

After Jorge de la Rosa gave up a bases loaded walk to Brandon Crawford, Bumgarner was sitting meatball and boy did he get it.

And Texas wins in the bottom 12th with a 1-0 on a Chirinos walk-off single. Texas' third walkoff this season.

Homer Bailey gives up back-to-back bombs to start the 2nd inning (Walker and Sanchez), then does the same in the 5th (Marte and Snider). He is replaced by Hoover to start the 6th who then does the same (Walker and Sanchez again).

Fingers crossed for Marte to lead off the 9th.

Luis Avilan has officially shat the bed. Gives up a 4 run lead after the Braves go back-to-back-to-back in the top of the 8th.

Wow - and now Uggla puts dookie in Jake Diekman's pants with a grand slam to go back up by 3.

edit: maybe this should have gone in the Post while you Poop thread

California. Duh.
Top 8: Braves go back-to-back-to-back, lead 5-1.
Bottom 8: Phillies get a walk, 3 singles, and a 3 run homer to lead 6-5.
Top 9: Braves go walk, FC where nobody is put out, walk, grand slam to go up 9-6.

5 homers, 12 runs in an inning and a half.  Nice bullpens.

Old pal Fernando Rodney had a tremendous meltdown in Texas tonight.

Here's the bottom of the 9th, with Texas starting down 3-1.

> Pitching Change: Fernando Rodney replaces Yoervis Medina.
1. Alex Rios flies out to right fielder Michael Saunders.
Ball: 2 Strike: 1 Out: 1
2. Prince Fielder strikes out swinging.
Ball: 3 Strike: 3 Out: 2
3. Kevin Kouzmanoff singles on a ground ball to center fielder Abraham Almonte, deflected by shortstop Brad Miller.
Ball: 1 Strike: 0 Out: 2
> Coaching visit to mound.
4. Mitch Moreland walks. Kevin Kouzmanoff to 2nd.
Ball: 4 Strike: 2 Out: 2
> Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Donnie Murphy replaces Josh Wilson.
5. Donnie Murphy reaches on a force attempt, throwing error by shortstop Brad Miller. Kevin Kouzmanoff to 3rd. Mitch Moreland to 2nd.
Ball: 1 Strike: 0 Out: 2
> With Leonys Martin batting, wild pitch by Fernando Rodney, Kevin Kouzmanoff scores. Mitch Moreland to 3rd. Donnie Murphy to 2nd.
SEA 2, TEX 2
6. Leonys Martin singles on a soft line drive to left fielder Dustin Ackley. Mitch Moreland scores. Donnie Murphy to 3rd.

Speaking of which, Kevin Kouzmanoff has been a force so far.

I also might check out the Phils/Braves replay from the MLB.TV archive, the box scores reads like it was a pretty awesome pitching duel.

Hanley Ramirez grabbed his left wrist after HBP, threw off his helmet. He is being led off the field by trainer Stan Conte.

Boras making phone calls already no doubt.

Do the dodgers shift Gordon back to SS now and call up Guerrero if its serious?

The play Miller messed up in the Rodney meltdown was ridiculously easy, an underhanded thirty foot toss to second for the force that he threw way too high.

Oakland is 10-4 so far this season (league-leading), and just blew their 5th save of the season (also league-leading).

Lloyd McClendon intentionally walks Prince Fielder in a 0-0 game in the first inning, with two outs and one on. Three runs score.

Best of times, worst of times for Puig in San Francisco. One on first, one out. Dogs an easy fly ball going to a supremely lazy basket catch... but recovers to gun down Belt for the forceout at second. Next batter, makes a ridiculous, twisting, over the shoulder catch for the third out. Inning over. I hate the manufactured controversy with this dude, but he really is is going to drive coaches absolutely crazy.

Kouzmanoff made him pay, he's been a huge pickup for Texas since Beltre's out with more leg issues.

As @hanson_nick points out, not only did the Twins score three runs without a hit, they scored them without an at-bat. @ycpb

The Twins are 0-for-0 with seven walks, a sac bunt, and four runs so far this inning.

Toronto's bullpen with an absolute epic meltdown in progress...

Delabar starts the inning with 2 BBs and the Twins give him an out on a sac bunt.

Santos replaces him and walks 3 straight guys, with 3 wild pitches thrown in for good measure.

JA Happ replaces him and walks the first 2 batters.

At present, we've had 8 batters this inning - 7 walks and a sac bunt.

Update: add a single and another walk!
