Sox acquire Wade Miley for De La Rosa, Webster, and minor leaguer

Is everyone quite aware that the numbers being assigned to pitchers ITT are completely worthless out of context?

Sox acquire Wade Miley for De La Rosa, Webster, and minor leaguer

How do you figure?    Owens and Rodriguez are almost certainly consensus better prospects at this point and you could make a compelling case for Barnes, Ranaudo, and Johnson as well (in my opinion at least).

Sox acquire Wade Miley for De La Rosa, Webster, and minor leaguer

I can't help but feel like RDLR and Webster would have been more valuable as smaller pieces in a deal for a better pitcher.    Yikes.   Really don't know what to think about this one.

Lester: Stop Believing What You Read on Twitter.

No use putting stock in anything that's coming out of the media right now. I think everyone's in the dark, and that likely includes Jon. This is a huge decision for him, and it doesn't surprise me at all that he's taking his sweet time. Only thing that will push him to decide quickly is if the...

Heyman: Ellsbury to sign seven-year deal with Yankees

I can't imagine the baseball ops people in NY are too happy about this one. Reeks of an ownership move.

    Let's Talk About Matt Kemp.

So you're saying a Demspter and Workman/Britton combo with cash gets Kemp and the only hesitation would be on the Red Sox side? I honestly don't see how that is even remotely possible...

NY signs Brian McCann to a 5/$85M deal

The Yankees getting out of A-Rods disaster of a contract annoys me to no end, but all in all I don't think this is a bad deal for them. 5/85 is about what I was expecting for McCann including all incentives, but using that as a baseline with an extra 1/15 of incentives isn't awful for a team...

    Let's Talk About Matt Kemp.

Well, honestly I meant "buy low" in the abstract, as in "someone would be able to buy low." I'm not positive the Sox have the pieces to make a deal work, but I'm willing to throw something out there.   For someone like Kemp, assuming the Dodgers are throwing in $20-$30 million to offset the...

    Let's Talk About Matt Kemp.

All-Star/MVP type outfielder and a likely buy-low opportunity. Sox would be irresponsible not to check in. Doesn't mean they're "in discussions" or any closer to acquiring Kemp than any of the other 200 players that are likely "available" this offseason. Honestly, until I see something more...

I mean, you're asking for indisputable metrics on a 23-year-old right fielder that is pretty much universally held to have generational power. Potential is a massive portion of his value. He's got 100+ HR before his age 24 season and I'm not sure I've ever seen someone question his potential...

I agree with you, which just further proves the point that it would be a worthwhile deal for the Sox.   I think the Marlins would be foolish to trade Stanton. But then again, they're the Marlins...     Yikes I can't imagine the Brewers would be willing to sell low on Braun or that any team would...

Have to remember he struggled with an early injury last season and it was nagging for quite a while. When he was healthy he was raking. You know what you're getting with Stanton. ISO and SLG likely higher than anyone else in the league over the next 10 years. Insurance for when Ortiz...

    Hot Stove Wishes

I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't change my analysis. I'd rather have a guy who's going to hit 40+ HR playing half of his games at Fenway for the next decade than the "security" that I won't have to scramble to find a league average 3B or 4th starter on the FA market. It's nice to...

    Hot Stove Wishes

      1. I agree he's important, but there's no reason to rush it this off-season. I think teams are becoming too obsessed with this "lock him up" mentality. Jon has had some really tough stretches over the past couple years, and by trying to extend him now you'd be negotiating from quite literally...

Grabbing Stanton wouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction. He's been a target for a while now, and would fit into our long-term plans much more significantly than any of the prospects you just mentioned besides Xander, who is obviously untouchable.    The fact of the matter is that our farm system has...

    Hot Stove Wishes

My biggest wish is that the Sox don't do anything silly after winning the title. Extending Lester isn't a priority right now. Extending Papi definitely isn't a priority. At the same time though, I think it's easy to discount Salty's regular season production because he had a rough postseason...
