What a 24 hours for the Revs.
  • 4-0 blowout win
  • Carles Gil extended
  • Stadium bill gets a public hearing
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/03/07/business/revolution-soccer-stadium-everett-beacon-hill/

They’re not even Alajuelense of 2003, though that Revs “home” match was played in Costa Rica.
And now this, which would markedly improve the public transit situation around the proposed Everett site...

Fire with the epic comeback!

Down 0-2 under 13 minutes. Down 1-3 at 70’. Guti pots a PK at 84’, Cuypers opens his account & tied the match at 95’, and Acosta wins it at 99’! (Though it looks like Acosta’s goal is officially an OG now, the wind is the actual responsible party.)

Again, Shaq was a huge drain on everything - no defense, barely got on the ball, made head scratching runs. It looked like a guy trying to get transferred. When Klopas benched him after the 3rd Montreal goal & moved Guti central, the Fire attack came to life. It’s so clear what needs to be done.

Props to Montreal for out-Fireing the Fire and turning a two goal lead at 83' into a loss!

I do feel bad for Sirois. This video shows the insane trajectory of that long ball from Acosta.

Goalkeeping masterclass in the Revs vs. Fire game yesterday as both teams started backups in a cold, rainy, windy game. Richey gifted the Revs a goal with a rebound that he conceded and Jackson attempted to return the favor by getting dispossessed with the ball at his feet.

One point from five games for the Revs is very bleak. MLS fans and observers often state that the first half of the season doesn't matter, and they are wrong. The first half of the season is usually not decisive because of the generous playoff qualification system, but all these lost points are adding up and it's a real question as to whether the Revs have enough quality and whether Caleb Porter can get this team functioning to make up the gap.

I don't think the Revs are the least talented team in the league, but there's something misfiring. The team still hasn't shaken off the malaise that set in with all the Bruce Arena investigation business.

finally caught up on the match and wish I hadn’t. Wasn’t a lot of good soccer happening yesterday. Feel like the Fire should have taken the points because Koutsias should have pitted that 1v1, but really, there were no winners in match like that.

Anyone planning to go to the Revs game in a month w/ Messi?

Looks like they've passed the 60,000 tix sold mark...

Kei Kamara to LAFC. Love Kamara as a late-game sub, mentor to young players, and all around good guy to root for.

Every club should get to enjoy watching Kei play for one season. LAFC is his 11th MLS side. There were only 12 teams in the entire league when he played his first MLS season.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/04/02/business/revolution-stadium-everett-renderings/

A standalone bill that would reclassify the industrial parcel in Everett to a designation that would allow for the construction of a stadium got a hearing today.

The Krafts’ New England Revolution offered the first glimpses of their proposed home on the Mystic River in Everett to coincide with a public hearing on state legislation that would enable the approximately $500 million project to move forward. The two-hour hearing, held Tuesday afternoon by the Legislature’s economic development committee, drew mostly supporters, though some speakers expressed concerns — mainly with traffic the project would generate.
Here's an Everett rendering that was released:

Driving somewhere most likely
While I am excited for this to finally be so close to happening, that is kind of underwhelming looking tbh. It’s just a rendering and I’m sure the inside images will be great.
To me it looks like a giant self storage facility on the exterior.

Do we have any idea what’s up with Cucho Hernandez? Late for practice or missed the bus don’t usually lead to a 2 match benching…

The Crew went down to Mexico after a 1-1 draw in Columbus and came back from a disastrous start to tie the second leg against Tigres and advance on penalties. Schulte was the goat early on and the hero in the shootout. Big, big win for the Crew against one of the big three clubs from Mexico.

I've been pining for Schmetzer to get fired for awhile, but now seems like an even better time.

The Sounders inexplicably decided to run it back, plus sign an oft injured DP. And it's resulted in the worst start in franchise history, dreadfully boring soccer and loss after loss after loss.

Good times!

Columbus beats Monterrey 2-1 in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal. The second leg is next week. 2-1 is a tenuous lead, but the Crew survived a 1-1 home leg against Tigres.

Diego Chara set an MLS record by playing his 377th game with the same club. He also got two yellow cards (115 total in his career), though amazingly it was only his 5th time getting a second yellow card.

I don't follow MLS all that closely, and somehow just heard about these rule changes today. Do people think the injury/sub rules have had a positive effect so far? They seem pretty sensible to me.

It's hard to evaluate because they ended up delaying the implementation until a few weeks ago, due to the referee lockout.

Brady had 3 incredible saves last night, but with Shaq out and Guti limited to a late appearance, there is no creativity in the Fire. At least they stymied Atlanta? Still, it’s now 270 minutes without a goal and counting for Chicago.

@SocrManiac - I’m interested in you assessment of Brady. I don’t know enough about the position. He can make the amazing saves, but I don’t have an eye for all the other things that a great keeper has to do.

Messi put 62,000 into Gillette last night and Inter Miami squashed the hapless Revs 4-1.

Tough situation for the Revs.

1. They aren't that good to begin with.
2. Lots of injuries.
3. The Caleb Porter hire isn't working out.
4. A decent chunk of the roster was out with food poisoning, and Matt Polster played 60 mins on an empty stomach after spending the previous night in the ER.

Well, then I guess that makes sense as to why I haven’t heard about it.

Anyone smarter about this sport than I am have an opinion? Kinda seems like the sort of thing that should happen everywhere, but I’m open to opposing opinions.

Thanks for the info @Titans Bastard. Shows you what I know about MLS haha.

Usually, the Fire drove me to drink and ai can just fall asleep. With Liverpool recently, I have to sober back up for the day.

I love the stadium clock counting past 45:00 and 90:00. That’s a huge benefit to spectators.

I haven’t noticed the substitution rule be enforced yet, but the treatment rule seems to be working well. The Revs had to play down a man for two minutes because Farrell stayed on the pitch with an injury against Toronto.

The Revs fans at my tailgate along with myself placed some irresponsibly large wagers on Miami after Seth Macomber broke that news story. Things were a bit hairy after the opening goal, but unsurprisingly the malnourished Revs played much worse in the second half. On a related note, how far has Noel Buck’s star fallen to be at the point where a violently ill Matt Polster is getting minutes over him?

It hasn't been a positive year for Buck, but he's injured. He came off in the 44th minute against Toronto last week and has been listed as questionable with a quad injury.
