I knew someone would overpay for Russell but thought it would be the Knicks. GS taking a huge gamble on him at a position they already have filled.
They’d say something along lines that you need three shot creators and they are down two right now...so position matters a lot less than role

They're going to play him for 1 year then deal him, works for both sides, they don't waste a year of Curry and Draymond, and he gets his max and a big spotlight, in return he gives up the choice on where he'll play from 2020-2022

Ws bench is still going to be terrible this year, especially until Klay comes back, even dumping Iggy that's about $20m hard capped to fill out every spot below the new big 4.

More on the GS trade per Woj:
Golden State is trading Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies, league source tells ESPN. Warriors are sending a 2024 protected first-round pick in the 2024 (protected 1-4), 2025 (protected 1) and 2026 unprotected.

Wow, 3 big picks. I'll guess that Memphis flips Iggy at some point and this is fine for our pick claiming prospects.
What is GS getting back? A basketball signed by Kyrie?

Huh? Iggy plus 3 1st round picks for . . . cap space?
NM, just 1 pick

June 2019 is turning into the worst month for the GSW in like 5 years.

It's 1 pick the 2024 1st, the rest is what it rolls over to if not conveyed.
Yes, Woj could have worded that more clearly...
'The trade is for the 2024 1-4 protected first-round pick, however, the pick could rollover and would be a protected 1 pick in 2025, and unprotected in 2026' is how it should have been phrased.

With Golden State only having 20M to spend on at least 9 roster spots, do they have enough room to keep Looney now? If they do, their team next season until Klay returns might be Steph, Draymond, Russell, Looney and 8 dudes making around the minimum.

Would Golden State move Draymond as well? Say, to a team that currently has no bigs on it?

Couple bits of news:

Knicks continue to hoard middle of market bigs on 2 year deals getting Bobby Portis for 2/31

Denver extends Jamal Murray for 5/170 (yep full max this early... why? Who knows)

In the next five years, GS likely now has five draft picks in total - they've already traded away their second round picks in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024, and now, baring a lottery appearance, they've traded their first pick in 2024.

The Warriors have been pretty good at buying second round picks for cash. There’s usually a few cheap teams willing to dump their pick.

Is there some new revenue source in the NBA that is going to take the cap up to $200MM in the next 2 years?
TV deal? Intl media deal?

Getting Napier was a decent little pickup (literally and figuratively). He may not amount to much but if he can regain his outside stroke he has a chance to add some bench scoring for Golden State. But this Warrior team may look more like the pre-Championship Dubs more than anything else. Steph, Green, D Lo and a bunch of other guys.

We are likely at the dawn of a new era for the NBA and the field is pretty open next year depending on what Leonard decides.

Lol why the hell would Dallas want to use that kind of cap space on Dragic when they have Luka? It’s nice to want things.

I have to admit, this has been a weird ass off-season.

The only thing that I intuited was that the Knicks weren't going to get a max guy. But the bonanza of complicated sign and trades really surprised me.

This upcoming season is setting up to be incredibly exciting and wide-open...now it’s just contingent on Kawhi not being the lamest person in the world.

The only big I'm seeing connected with the C's right now in free agency is Enes Kanter.

I'm hoping Danny is just being sneaky, because Kanter is kind of a one trick pony.

Per Woj, Pat Beverly staying with the Clippers at $40 million over three years.
I’m surprised Chicago went with Thad Young on essentially the same contract over Beverly, who so publicly wanted to play for the Bulls.

With about $8-9m left in cap space, the Bulls will be wooing the same group of value-tier bigs as the Cs.

With 2 entrenched guys in their way. Celtics can offer a lot more opportunity to these guys.

Yeah, if the Celtics can keep the MLE, I’d expect a decent offer to Looney now that GSW has basically no path to matching anything over 6M or so.

Have we established whether the team is operating above the cap with the MLE or below with the room exception?

Looking like we are going to be under the cap so only the Room exception, but will be getting some kind of compensation from CHA for allowing them to pay Terry

Now that the Wizards lost Sato, they are looking at IT per Aldridge:
Wizards losing Satoransky, but are talking with veteran PG Isaiah Thomas and hoping there’s a fit there, per source.

And Ish Smith per Shams:
Free agent guard Ish Smith has agreed to a two-year, $12M deal with the Washington Wizards, league sources tell

There was word the Nets wanted to bring the S&T back, but I don't know if that happened.

If all we have is the room exception maybe it's worth taking a flyer on Poirier. He's big at 7'0 and 253 lb. and seems to have a pretty good post game. Maybe start the year with either TimeLord or Theis and have Poirier come off the bench to adjust to the NBA game? I just cannot imagine Robert Williams is going to be this team's starting center.

I guess we have until the 6th to work it out but the board of available players will be empty by then.

Guessing Nets are asking for Memphis pick.
The question becomes whether it helps them bring in Kyrie, KD, and Jordan and/or send out Russell. The same may go for Al to Philly if it helps facilitate Butler to Miami.

Ah, that’s why Thad Young over Beverly.

Edit: they clearly want to move Dunn and already tried in June. Maybe once the game of PG musical chairs stops, someone will be in dire need?

Kawhi cannot join the Lakers. Please for the love of parity and competitiveness in the NBA. We would have the most exciting season in a long, long time if Kawhi stayed with Toronto or joined the Clippers. Just say no, Kawhi.

I don't want him at the Lakers, but I definitely want him out of Toronto and westward bound.

The problem is that LAC lost the game of musical chairs, so there’s no good reason for Kawhi to go there now. There’s also not much room left to trade Gallo into, although that could probably be managed by overpaying with a far-out 1st rounder.

I don't know if it's possible but they can trade Gallo and some sweeteners for a max-type player like Beal. They're not lacking in tradeable assets.

Come on Jerry make it happen.

Someone tell me why I should be excited over a center whose career averages are 4ppg and 4 rpg? Cuz I’m not seeing it.
Zach Lowe raved about his defense on his podcast this year. He is very good if he gets switched onto the perimeter.

Is there any way for Miami to end up with Butler and Kawhi? This is what I'm hoping for, I'm not sure it's possible though.
