Dalbec has had a rough few weeks, but he was a league average hitter in May and has been a league average hitter in June. He's been adequate for almost 2 months now.
His babip will come crashing down eventually, but it still seems unlikely they'd send him down to keep playing jbj in the lineup every night. Figuring out if he's a viable starting outfielder every day next year is pretty important.
If you can find a closer that never struggles and makes every save look easy I'd love to know who that is. He did what you're describing once, and then he got out of the jam.
Not only is 3.50 not at all "almost 4", but it also includes his starts. As a reliever it's 3.03, and that's heavily impacted by one terrible appearance. He's been great as a closer.
Before today he had a 2.93 era 1.16 WHIP and .615 OPS as a reliever, that's really not close at all to average. It's only close to average if you include his starting numbers in, which makes no sense in comparison to other relievers.
Before tonight he had a 1.04 era in June with a .659 ops allowed. Also not sure why you think his WHIP is high for a reliever when it's decently above the major league average for a reliever.
Not really sure what you're hoping for if you don't think he's been impressive so far. He's given up...
So he isn't cut out to be a closer because he's had some bad appearances in the 8th inning. Interesting logic.
Edit: Actually it's one bad appearance. He got shelled in a single 8th inning and that killed his metrics because it's not very many innings.
He's pitched in 6 save situations this year and has a 1.59 era and 5 saves, but you've decided he isn't cut out to be a closer based on one bad appearance tonight (where he settled down and closed out the game with some nasty pitches)?
They don't want to reduce his salary by too much anyway, because eventually they're going to want to be able to turn his salary slot into a younger better player.
Harden literally just got traded for a package that included an all star. They aren't taking marginal players and marginal picks for Kevin fucking Durant and the 4 years he just locked himself in to.
