    Rosenthal: Tanaka signs with Yankees

There has been several references to Cano, and that the Yanks should have matched the ten years offered by Seattle, if they were serious about winning.   Really?  After the ARod fiasco, the FO announced that they weren't interested to handing out ten year deals to thirty something players...

Arb Ruling 162 Games for ARod

I understand your point. However, the relationship will become hostile due to the lawsuit.  I guess if he never plays another game, then it would be a moot point.  I see the upside as being limited due to the daunting odds they are facing.

Arb Ruling 162 Games for ARod

I don't either.   Taking on one's union, in order to fight a fruitless battle, leaves me scratching my head.

Arb Ruling 162 Games for ARod

Good summary.  The upcoming process will not evaluate whether or not Horowitz made a good decision, it will judge whether or not he followed the proper protocol.   From what I have heard on interviews with legal experts, here are the areas where ARod's team will be focusing on:   1.  Whether...

Arb Ruling 162 Games for ARod

From what I understand, there needs to be a designated representative for MLB.  And as per the CBA, it doesn't have to be the commissioner.  MLB appointed Manfred to take the stand as their representative- and he was the only one from MLB that needed to testify.  Manfred's role was identified...

Heyman: Ellsbury to sign seven-year deal with Yankees

Boras would have tried his hardest to talk Cano out of taking an extension.  And if he took an early extension it wouldn't have been at a discount- it's just not the Boras way.  A 28-29 year old Cano would have likely insisted on a 10 year deal, like the 31 year old Cano did.

    2014 Yankees - Fiscally Responsible

I think this is the 3rd time this offseason, if you count Cano and Beltran (even though he still signed with NY).

      Does Pettite count?

    Cashman's Cano Contract Conundrum

I don't think Boras could have gotten more years or more money than Jay Z did.  He definitely outplayed the M's FO in this deal.

Heyman: Ellsbury to sign seven-year deal with Yankees

Are you sure it isn't the other way around?  From the beginning, the Yanks have had the highest offer out there for Cano.  Seattle offering an 8th year probably isn't enough for Jay Z to relocate his marketing plan to the PacNW, arguably keeping NY's offer as competitive as Seattle's.  ...

    Let's Talk About Matt Kemp.

As far as Kemp returning to his MVP form.....if the Dodgers thought it had a good chance of happening, he wouldn't be on the trading block.  Or, he would cost a lot in terms of a trade.   I'd pass.

Heyman: Ellsbury to sign seven-year deal with Yankees

Cano has no reason to be pissed.  What part of the negotiations is considered playing hardball?  From the beginning, the MFY's offer was considered the largest out there for Cano.  That's much different than Ells's situation with the Sox.  I dislike Cashman, but I feel he is playing his hand...

Heyman: Ellsbury to sign seven-year deal with Yankees

I've seen this from other people, too.  I'm sure that's why Cano dumped Boras for Jay Z....so he could get $125 million and have to switch positions.  :)   Anyone who thinks the Yanks will surpass $189 next year is dreaming.  They can still sign Cano and stay under.  They'll let Cano walk if...

Heyman: Ellsbury to sign seven-year deal with Yankees

Yep.  And that's really toning down the economics for the average Joe.  What was the difference, in millions, between the offers by the MFY and the Sox?  That is really what Ells was looking at....not a $5,000 pay raise from Sam's Club.   I agree that most of us would advise our sons not to...

Let's Talk about the manager -- The John Farrell Thread

I was yelling at Farrell through the television when they were holding Wong at first.  It's as if Farrell mistakenly believed that he only had a one run lead.  Remarkably, the move worked perfectly, but I still hate the strategy.   If that move backfired, I would not want to have been in...
