Palka and Gudino, both non 40-man, released from WooSox. Trying not to read too much into this, but the timing sure is interesting.
My understanding is that they need to get under 180 to roster their new draft picks, & they have several guys rehabbing in the FCL who should be ready to go back to Worcester: Christian Koss, Bradley Zimmer & Dan Altavilla.Palka and Gudino released from WooSox. Trying not to read too much into this, but the timing sure is interesting.
No problem at all. You're right, thanks. Scherzer wasn't a rental. Still a unique situation, his contract is so prohibitive that I'd still say Paxton's a more valuable asset.
If DD is at all willing to trade Mick Abel, I'd be interested to offer what I could to fill in the gap. Not sure what else from their roster or system would make sense though. They're not trading Bryson Stott. We're probably not trading for Justin Crawford.
I would love that for BaltimoreI think the major storyline today will end up being whether Verlander will waive his no trade for Baltimore.
Seems like something he might be amenable to in an "I'm coming home" type of way.I think the major storyline today will end up being whether Verlander will waive his no trade for Baltimore.
Agree on Story, but I'm not sure that the issue is defense at 2B. I'm with @Bob Montgomerys Helmet Hat that if they add there, it will be for offense. Chang, Arroyo, and Reyes can all cover the position adequately, what none of them can do right now is hit at all.I am becoming more convinced in looking at the current team that a defensive upgrade at second with the addition of Story at short is by far the most affective and cheapest way to improve the team this year. I think you'll see them add at second and some cheaper arms.
There's about a billion places that are "160 miles from Camden Yards."Seems like something he might be amenable to in an "I'm coming home" type of way.

https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/mlb-trade-deadline-live-news-rumors-deals/EO2zVcFcB68n/?access_token=257475&redirected=1Coming off their third straight loss on the West Coast, the Red Sox find themselves in an interesting spot this morning. Late Monday night, a person familiar with the team's ongoing trade talks said, "it's all possibilities right now." Yet time is running out for the Red Sox to improve a club that posted the best record in baseball in the month of July at 16-8.
Still, the team finds itself 2 1/2 games back of Toronto for the third wild-card spot. After the Red Sox wrap up a series in Seattle this week, Boston hosts Toronto for three crucial games this weekend. Pitching is still a priority for the Red Sox — both starters and relievers. And while chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said last week he wouldn't rule out adding a rental at the deadline, he's more inclined to add a young, controllable arm.
The Red Sox watched one of those, right-hander Aaron Civale, head to division rival Tampa Bay on Monday in exchange for the club's top first-base prospect, Kyle Manzardo. Could the Red Sox have swung a similar deal by parting with one of their prospects ranked in the top 100? With the clock ticking, the Red Sox are running out of time to add reinforcements to a club that has shown resilience much of the season, even if the last few days have lacked results.
In his case, it was Richmond, VA.There's about a billion places that are "160 miles from Camden Yards."
Lol, yeah Philly is like 100.There's about a billion places that are "160 miles from Camden Yards."
when is NY and BOS sports talk radio not full of angry/yelling/ hot take "artists"?This is a rental market. Don’t see any way Chaim or anyone for that matter can pry away young, controllable talent.
The sports radio talking heads in Boston and NY will be something else to listen to tonight.
That won't be a thing here. They only talk Patriots. All fucking year. This is a rental market. Don’t see any way Chaim or anyone for that matter can pry away young, controllable talent.

Yeah, not that it matters (as in team's shouldn't make decisions based on the media) but as far as anyone that wants to take account of the media "blowback" it really doesn't exist in Boston any more. By and large, the casual fan doesn't care if the Red Sox are good or not, so long as the ballpark experience is fun. Those of us that love the Sox are still going to post here, but we're not exactly the "typical callers" to such things. That won't be a thing here. They only talk Patriots. All fucking year.
I will, in fact, be listening to something else. The sports radio talking heads in Boston and NY will be something else to listen to tonight.
Ha! So true , occasionally I accidentally tune into some chat. I don’t recognize any the hosts on WEEI anymore but, sure as shit, all the talk is about the Pats. So, so, boring. That won't be a thing here. They only talk Patriots. All fucking year.
I hate it so much. I’ve moved to podcasts because of it. 98.5 no better in this regard.Ha! So true , occasionally I accidentally tune into some chat. I don’t recognize any the hosts on WEEI anymore but, sure as shit, all the talk is about the Pats. So, so, boring.
Yeah, I am almost 100% podcast listener now too.I hate it so much. I’ve moved to podcasts because of it. 98.5 no better in this regard.
Has it really gotten that bad? I haven't listened in maybe twenty years and it was pretty bad then, but at least it was on topic bad.Yeah, not that it matters (as in team's shouldn't make decisions based on the media) but as far as anyone that wants to take account of the media "blowback" it really doesn't exist in Boston any more. Last year NESN's ratings for the Sox dropped around 35%, which was more than any team outside of Cincy, Oakland, SF, Colardo, Washington and Detroit. (https://www.boston.com/sports/media/2022/12/24/viewership-tough-enough-last-season-red-sox-offseason-not-uplifting-chad-finn-media/)
Again, I'm not trying to say it should necessarily matter what Felger and Mazz say, but the point that the Sox are pretty far down the list in terms of interest, at least to the Sports Talk Radio mindset and thus they won't really bother discussing the lack of moves (or subsequent lack of playoff baseball). It'll just be talking about it not being what Bill Belichek said about Mac Jones but how he said it from August until the Celtics get to the playoffs in April of 2024 as opposed to starting to really focus on that in October.
I love hockey and baseball on the radio. I listen more than I watch. I have not listened to sports talk radio in 20 years either. Not really sure who it appeals to any more. 20-30 year old guys?I think that may be common. With most cars with Bluetooth, most people have moved onto podcasts or satellite. Local radio is dying.
Yeah, so you should try to make the podcasts... good.Except there will be 100s of options, not 2-3 as there were 10 years ago.
