Brendan Nail has started off his outting with a walk & a double error, but with the bases loaded & 1 out, strikeout/flyout, game over, WooSox win 8-5.

Nick Sogard went 2-3 with a GS & 2 walks.

8 other guys had 1 hit each, & 7 other players walked, including 2 others who walked twice each.

THE BLIZZARD was 1-5 with a walk & 2 steals, taking him to 30 on the season in AAA.

Theo Denlinger pitched the 5th & 6th without allowing a base runner & striking out 2 to earn the win.

Andrés Núñez pitched a 1-2-3 7th. After a 6.66 ERA for the Royals AAA club this year, he has allowed 1 run in 6.1 innings since joining Worcester with 3 hits, 2 walks & 4 strikeouts for a 1.42 ERA.

Nail got off to a rough start but recorded his 3rd save & lowered his ERA with Worcester to 2.40 in 15 innings after an 0.99 ERA in 27.1 innings at Portland.

The 27 y/o lefty may be able to help the Red Sox at some point this season.

Speaking of older lefty prospects, Cam Booser pitched a 1-2-3 8th with 2 strikeouts. If y'all remember, Booser is the guy who retired from baseball for like 4 years to be a carpenter before coming back last year. He was picked up by the Red Sox this off season & got off to an abominable start.

However, in his last 9 games, the 31 y/o from Seattle, has pitched 10.1 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits & 2 walks while striking out 14.

Like have they actually found something here? Of course, his ERA on the season is still 5.91... but that's an intriguing stretch from a guy with a huge fastball who has never harnessed it in the past.

Very curious to see how Blaze performs. I’ve pegged him as trade bait for a while and still believe that but if he can manage to keep up the power + average in AA I will take notice for sure.

Still, this was yet another mistake punished rather than a fastball.

Yeah, he kind of capped athletically in a lot of regards, but he's hit quite well as a 20 y/o this season.

I'm guessing that if he continues to progress as a hitter it just makes him better trade bait more so than a long term piece unless he takes some big steps forward defensively at both 1B & 3B.

Hmm. Well there's only what, six weeks left in A ball? Guessing that's not an option til 2024. Baseball always makes us wait longer than we want.
Regular season ends 9/10 then they have the playoffs as the 1st half champions.

Portland seasons ends 9/17. They have the best record in the Eastern League, but lost the 1st half to Somerset (Yankees) by 2 games.

In the 2nd half, they're 11-3 & have a 3 game lead over 7-5 Hartford (Rockies).

Wikelman is interesting... he seemed dominant in high-A... but has a 5.14 ERA this season.

In 63 innings he has only allowed 49 hits, but has 42 walks...& 105 strikeouts (15 per 9 IP).

Last time out he got shelled - 7 runs in 5 innings.

In his 10 starts prior to that one, though, he pitched 49.2 innings, allowing 14 earned runs on 31 hits & 27 walks with 83 strikeouts - 2.54 ERA.

I'm far less optimistic about Wikelman than I am about guys like Perales & Monegro because he can't seem to consistently harness his control, even when things are going good.

His lack of control basically makes it impossible to pitch deeper into games. In each of his last 9 starts he's pitched between 5 & 5.2 innings & thrown between 85 & 96 pitches each game. So even when things are going well, he hasn't been efficient.

If he can take one leap he should be a quality bullpen arm, but he's about 2 large leaps from being an impactful starter.

Salem was winning the resumed game 3-1 but lost 6-4. Matt Litwicki struggled a lot in his 1st A ball outting - getting 1 out & allowing 3 runs on 2 hits & 3 walks.

Alexis Hernandez went 2-4 with a double & 3 RBI. Jhostynxon Garcia went 2-4 with a steal.

JDE got the start for Greenville still no Perales.

He went 5 innings & allowed 2 runs on 2 hits & 2 walks with 3 strikeouts.

Felix Cepeda made his Greenville debut in the 6th, striking out the side.

It's the top of the 8th & Allan Castro has Greenville's only hit. Roman is 0-3 with 2 k's.

The teams have a combined 3 hits, all in the 1st inning.

Rafaela has been caught stealing 3 times in 4 attempts at AAA so far. Something to keep an eye on.

One of our lowest key prospects Stephen Scott is 2-2 so far and approaching a .900 OPS. Shame he doesn’t bat RH otherwise he might be pretty interesting as a backup C and 1B if his receiving develops.

I really believe he has a 25-30 HR season in him. Not gonna happen in Boston but if I were a GM I’d take a flier on him for a couple of lottery tickets.
He's already had one, for the Boston Red Sox. 25 HRs in 2021 in 453 PA.
In 2021 and 2021, he hit 33 HR in 545 PA, ..819 OPS, 114 OPS+. He was lousy in 2022, but this year he is tearing up AAA and has only had 14 PA in the majors.

Dalbec really needs to be traded to a small market team where he can just play third base and be left alone to hit 27 bombs, play decent defense at third base only, and K 200 times.
That's never happening in Boston, as third base is taken for another decade or so, and he keeps getting moved around to different positions and the fans and media are down on him and sick of his whiffs.

Might be yet another thing Rafaela needs to keep working on in AAA for a while.

I've been kind of conflicted on Scott & whether it would be worthwhile to make room for him on the 40 now instead of Caleb Alfaro. Probably good for his development to keep getting more regular AAA reps.

In his last 5 starts prior to today, Noah Dean pitched 11.2 innings & walked 22 hitters, allowing 17 earned runs...a 13.11 ERA.

So today's start somehow represents a really positive step in the right direction...

4 IP, 2 runs, 1 ER, 3 walks, 5 hits, 4 strikeouts.

We got the full Wikelman experience in his 1st inning with Portland...1 hit, 1 walk, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts.

There you go. I knew he had over 20 but I forgot he had 25. It’s hard for me to believe that we can’t find a trade partner for him, especially with him absolutely crushing the ball in Worcester.

He got yanked with 2 outs in the 4th after allowing 6 runs, 5 earned & then giving up his 3rd & 4th walks. He also allowed 6 hits. He did have 6 strikeouts, but he has been pretty awful lately.

Hopefully we'll find out it's because they are working on some crazy thing which will turn him into an amazing pitcher for next season... but it's not looking great.

Norwith Gudiño got the 3rd out & it's 7-6 WooSox through 4.

8 strikeouts through 5 scoreless, 3 hits/1 walk/1 HBP.
9 strikeouts through 6 scoreless, 4 hits/1 walk/1 HBP.

I assume that's probably it at 94 pitches. 0-0 through 6.

Thanks for the video! I thought his first name was pronounced wih-KELL-man, but the announcer is pronouncing it wickel-men.
Does that mean his nickname should be the Wickel Man?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wicker_Man
I've always pronounced it like it rhymes with Nickel Man. Not sure if I knew that or just got lucky.

Really positive outting today either way for a 21 y/o.

Sea Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 8th with a Rosier triple & Marrero single.

Worcester is winning 9-7 with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th & a runner on 1st. Justin Garza is pitching...& the game is in a rain delay.

Will just post this now with updates if they need to play more innings...

Dalbec was 1-2 with his 22nd homer, 2 walks & a HBP.

Stephen Scott was 3-5 with a double (& his 6th PB & 1st CS...).

Nick Sogard was 3-5 with his 13th steal.

Daniel Palka was 3-4 with 2 doubles & a walk.

Niko was doing Niko things...0-3 with a strikeout & 2 walks.

Blizzard was doing Blizzard things...1-4 with a walk, his 31st steal & his 9th & 10 errors.

CNote was 2-4 with a HBP.

Booser came in after the rain delay & allowed Garza's runner to score on a walk & a hit, but got the last 2 outs for the 9-8 win & his 1st save.
