Its going to have to be.This offense is going to be very good.

Brasier…how many fungible middle relievers stay on the same roster over six seasons over multiple regimes? So fucking bizarre.Ultimate tease at the end.
Brasier and Ort cannot be shot out of canons soon enough.
Yes, but it won’t matter if the pitching sucks. This offense is going to be very good.
If only the pitchers weren’t uselessDamn, let that one get away
Nice to see the offense fight to the end
That's kind of amazing for a manager with a career .550+ WP.Alex Cora: 0-5 on Opening Day as manager.
One of those years was the best season of our lifetimes.Alex Cora: 0-5 on Opening Day as manager.
Puts things in perspective, for sure. Even the greatest team in franchise history started 0-1.That's kind of amazing for a manager with a career .550+ WP.
Sure. But we have three better starting pitchers than the one we just watched rehabbing in extended spring training.Yes, but it won’t matter if the pitching sucks.
That's a rough second guess, I think. If Kluber gets through five, I think you could argue for using some of your better relievers to try to stay in the game, but there aren't enough of them to get you from the fourth to the end of the game. I think maybe there's a case to be made for going to Winckowski in the 5th instead of the 8th since he's presumably your long guy, but I think that's about it.I usually understand Cora's management style: Kluber stank, so save your better relief pitchers for the next game. But today, it cost the game, along with Devers' underperformance. I didn't see every minute of this game, so perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems to me much too early in the game to go to your "garbage time" pitchers.
Yes, but your suggestion sounds better, and is definitely a different approach. That's a rough second guess, I think. Suggestion: add "First DFA" to the annual predictions contest. Can someone photoshop Ort and Brasier's faces on this?
And change "Rhythm and Blues" to "the 40-man roster"?
Absolutely, it's opening day!!! My wife busted out the Whirley Pop and made some popcorn to have while she watched the game and I stopped at the store and picked up some Kayem's to make dogs for dinner while watching whatever baseball happens to be on.I'm going to crack a celebratory beer anyway!
Yeah, the offense was very good last year, too.Yes, but it won’t matter if the pitching sucks.
Agreed. 9 walks. Also the 5 steals the Orioles got doesn't look good either. So much for the new-found emphasis on throwing strikes.
I’d guess Winchowski will be used like that if it’s closer, say 2 runs down after 4? 5? Starter is gassed/pulled/maxed out….If it’s looking like a blowout (borderline as it was today)- then it’s the garbage people. Hopefully those guys will be replaced soon jYes, but your suggestion sounds better, and is definitely a different approach.
Interesting angle that I hadn’t thought of. Not having that time to take a breath could have a real effect.Based on a very small sample size, my impression is the for a pitcher who is having some control issues, the pitch clock tends to make it worse. It just seemed to snowball today.
I think guys who can't find the plate, maybe need some time to stomp around the plate and throw the rosin bag and whatever. But maybe when they have to get right back up on the horse it can be difficult to find the spots.
Just a thought and a thing I think I'll watch more.
The conclusion I draw is that yesterday sucked and I wish we were playing today to get the taste out of my mouth. We saw one game against a decent-to-good offense on a very cold day. Very few of our better arms pitched. I don't think we should draw many conclusions.
WooSox on NESN in 30 minutes with Garrett Whitlock on the mound, if you're looking for a palette cleanser. The conclusion I draw is that yesterday sucked and I wish we were playing today to get the taste out of my mouth.
F.O. knows better than to try to cross Brasier or Ort. Last time that happened Bloom found a giant meatball in his bed. Warning received.Wait can someone explain why they didn't just let him "Rehab" with the big club? He has to be better than their end of the pen options.
