Is there a link to that?

Only 115 QBs drafted outside of the first round have started? Maybe that's right, just trying to get my head around it.
Since 2000, apparently. I guess the math could work out... the Pats have had 5 even though they've had Brady most of that time. I probably would have guessed that the Pats would count for somewhere between 1/20 and 1/32 of the league, so in the area of 100-150 total.

Also, I wonder how many of those 80 losses came courtesy of Bill Belichick.

Just read he is 5-0 with QBs drafted outside the first round making their first NFL start as HC of the NEP (Brady, Cassel, Jimmy, Jacoby, Zappe).

The rest of the NFL is 30-80.

But it was all Brady.
Research confirms. So to clarify: Since 2000 when Brady was drafted, BB is 5-0 with QBs drafted in the 2nd round or later, specifically in their first NFL start. The rest of the NFL's HCs combined are 30-80 in that same span.

The next closest if you were curious is Denver with four (Osweiler, Siemian, Allen, McGee). Including the Patriots, only 19 teams have such at least one win since 2000.

For those putting the goat horns on Bourne... perhaps some same who were asking for more of him... Maybe there has been a reason that he hasn't been getting snaps?

The talent on the WR corps is so lacking (hi Agholor), I'd still play him. That was a curious illegal formation penalty though for sure and could be a reason he's riding pine.

Awww. Thank you! Always appreciative. I wish I could do it more for the baseballs and all but so it goes.

Trying to confirm last year's Bucs are the other in that 25-year stat. There's no reason for them not to include the other team, I'd be called out on omitting that because people want to know who it is. And we all do!

FWIW I got it from this article: https://www.nfl.com/news/saints-hand-tom-brady-first-shutout-loss-since-2006
It added up to a shutout for the reigning Super Bowl champs, who entered the week as the NFL's No. 1 scoring offense.

He was #2 in WR snaps today.

In the end, things changed pretty dramatically. Kendrick Bourne out-snapped DeVante Parker for the first time this season as rookie Tyquan Thornton dipped into Parker's snaps: Meyers (49), Kendrick Bourne (33), DeVante Parker (31), Tyquan Thornton (24), Lil'Jordan Humphrey (14), Nelson Agholor (7)

Nelson tweaked a hammy, which led to his low snaps

To be fair, it was more of a statement of "We need more Bourne/Bourne is the goat" Venn diagram. I have tried to avoid following the game thread as much as possible for my mental sanity. I am guessing the negatives were the two penalties? One was a timing play, where he started forward a step before the snap. The other was an alignment issue... Were there other reasons he was getting goated? It isn't like he volleyballed a slant into a safety's arms for an INT.

Reddit r/patriots christening the Pats offense “Zappe and the Brothers of Reception”. Semi-deep cut and a bit of a stretch, but I admire the effort.

I love Jack Jones. He has it. He’ll bulk up and be able to defend the run passably. But he’s got that Asante Samuel vibe where he sees the ball and it’s his. And I like that in a corner.

I also think this defense now run through Adrian Phillips. His impact is truly Harrison-sequel and Duggar is a close second to take over the mantle. Those guys are fucking ballers, as is Judon. I don’t know what the offense does this year, but those three plus Jones’ development are fun to watch on D. A lot of fun.

I still don't feel confident I know how this team is going to end up, but I'll say if you told me in July that Jack Jones would be an instant contributor with stud potential, I'd have been pretty damn high on the team's overall outlook. I don't want to overreact to beating the Lions with their best player hurt and their second best player out, but there was a lot to like today on both sides of the ball. Game balls for JJ, Meyers, Zappe, Rhamondre, Judon, Dugger, Folk, the offensive line, the defensive front for getting there every 4th down...long deserving list today.

Once the announcers stated that the D was 'chipping' Hock, I started to pay attention to it on the broadcast. They weren't just chipping him, they were mauling him at the line- pushing him 2-3 yards back before he could release on his route. it was vintage early 2000s football.

Dugger - starting to put it together as a truly dynamic playmaker. We really missed this a lot in that Baltimore game.
Judon - destroyer of offensive fluidity, hope they manage him/keep him fresh for the whole season.
Zappe - still understandably has a leash on, but the night and day of it all was encouraging, as is what we’re hearing/reading about him from teammates. Love the way he climbs the pocket.
Henry - a handful of key catches, good to see him getting reintroduced as a key role player on offense.
Rham - if he stays healthy, he will be a STAR.
Jack Jones - dynamic ballhawk, please keep your head on straight and put some weight on.
Jakobi - sign him long term now. 3-4 more years for lowish-medium-ish money may be doable.
Matty P - NOT A FAN, even when he was here last time, but is hard to deny that, despite some ups and downs, the guy has managed the recent turbulence on offense really well. Hoping they continue to innovate and adjust.

TACKLING, TACKLING, TACKLING - pretty much everyone on defense is really, REALLY tackling soooo much more consistently. Huge difference from last year.

I think Bailey was 17-21 (18-21 if not for Nelson). He was sacked once but it was negated by an illegal contact penalty.

The line was very, very good.

The illegal formation was Bourne. I am pretty sure he got benched right after basically just giving the ball to the Lions. That doesn't count the two fumbles he already has this season. I would not be shocked at all by mid season if Thornton is taking the majority of the snaps as the X receiver along with Parker. I think Agholar's time is done here. I would be surprised if his snap count isn't cut in half or more.

There was a brief sequence on screen where BB and Bournne were in an animated sideline discussion, particularly Bourne gesturing and appearing to be upset. I can’t recall if that followed immediately after the illegal formation penalty but it suggests that Bourne may be on a short string with BB (again?)

I was 100% certain after that, followed by an argument with Bill, he wouldn't see another snap all game

I wonder if his season high playing time was due to a chemistry he had developed with Zappe while running with the 3rd stringers in practice… similar to how you see a QB/receiver binkyship develop in preseason games

Who is that St. Brown guy on the Lions that the announcers were fawning over every 5 seconds? And why? Seemed like they were always looking for him on the field.

2nd year WR (who I think a lot of Pats fans were thinking the Pats might take a mid-late round chance on last year, but I may be off on that one) who had a really strong rookie year and is off to a good start this year.

His first 3 games of his career he had 6 catches for 43 yards and 0 TD.

In his last 18 games, he has 111 catches for 1,140 yards and 8 TD. In the final 6 games of 2021, he caught 51 balls for 560 and 5 TDs, then another 23 catches for 253 yards and 3 TD in his first 3 this year, for a total of 74 catches for 813 yards and 8 TDs over a 9 game stretch.

He was taken in the 4th round last year, pick 112.

Went to USC.

Amon-Ra St. Brown. He was limited yesterday due to injury but has been a beast when healthy.

I know I’ve been beating this drum in game threads lately but I’m really impressed with Cole Strange. Kid has multiple time all pro ability. He’s a mauler in the run game and has been a rock in pass protection too. What a find.

Zappe was perfectly cromulent. But a big part of that goes to the FO/Coaching Staff. We saw yesterday how teams with their 3rd string QB wilt against going up against first rounders, but Zappe has held his own over the past 2 weeks.

Was watching with the sound pretty low and talking to people so I couldn't get a good read on what was happening there. Was surprised to not see it really discussed in the game thread when I skimmed back through it. Hoping the increased playing time isn't a one off even if KB wasn't impressive yesterday.

A lot to like in this one. Gameball to whoever came up with the defensive game plan.

It was immediately after the penalty.

My sense on that argument was that Bourne was arguing that he didn't know Cannon had declared tackle-eligible. I just rewatched that sequence. A) it was very hard to hear any announcement (if there even was one) saying "61 has declared eligible;" and B ) it sure looked to me like Bourne did the "hey line judge, am I good?" exchange before the snap, but KB did seem more like he was asking about not being offside, rather than being correct.
BB seemed to be having none of it.

The illegal formation penalty on Bourne was in the second quarter. In the first quarter Bourne went in motion across the line, didn’t stop and took off early for a false start. The first two penalties of the game on the Patriots were on Bourne.

If you don’t want to get chewed out by the coach after that maybe find another team.
