Worst part is, had they just kicked the FGs, they're on pace for 40 Points, which would be enough to bear last year's KC team.So stupid. They’ve pissed away six points because of the reputation of last year’s Chiefs. It’s basically a lock that KC wins by 3 or 4 now, right?
I dunno. Allen was wide open on that last play; Herbert just needed to put a little air under the throw. Seems like a good call, and just a mistake in execution by a good player.Worst part is, had they just kicked the FGs, they're on pace for 40 Points, which would be enough to bear last year's KC team.
The key is turnovers. KC turned it over. Capitalize and take the points.
All these coaches love outthinking themselves.

To be fair, I don't think Staley is a classic meathead football guy, I think he is trying to play the analytics. Feel like I've seen it blow up in their face a lot, though - they pretty much took themselves out of the Ravens game in the first half by failing on 4th down several times.Warning: Pats fan griping alert
One of the underrated results of NE’s dominance the last two decades has been that with so many whiners have tried to excuse away the success by bleating “cheaterz!” very few have taken a good look at what NE has been doing and questioned traditional thinking. So instead of it causing an analytics revolution, like in baseball, the majority of coaches are walking stereotypes of the classic meathead football guys.
Sure and if they execute their offense they'd be up by 18-20. Just because you fail doesn't mean you didn't make the right choice. The expected points result of going for it on 4th and 1 at the 1 is higher than the expected points of kicking the FG, you should always go for that except at the very end of a game where you are down less than 3.But that's almost every play. Things happen. Its football. It doesn't matter that the call was good.
The 3rd down call was good too, but they ended up with 0 points. Just by "playing it safe", they'd be up double digits. It's dumb.
That's the more questionable one, I think 4th and 5 is somewhere around 40% conversion rate?No problem going for it on 4th and 1 but going for it earlier on 4th and 5 seemed pretty questionable. What is the expected success rate there?
I would guess that is the rate in the whole field. Two point conversions (ie, from the 2) are less than 50% so I imagine 4th and goal from the 5 is like 30-35%.That's the more questionable one, I think 4th and 5 is somewhere around 40% conversion rate?
yeah, probably.I would guess that the rate in the whole field though. Two point conversions (ie, from the 2) are less than 50% so I imagine 4th and goal from the 5 is like 30-35%.
I agree.I honestly think at least 2, maybe all 3 decisions to go on 4th were good ones, play calls and execution were not.
