Mayer won’t make Xander happy. Take Rocker.
That should be the least of the Red Sox worries. Mayer won't be ready for a couple of years in all probability. If he is ready any sooner, he could probably be moved to second base. Remember Dustin was drafted as a shortstop. The position a guy plays in high school should not affect in most cases whether or not he gets drafted.
This isn't the NFL where Aaron Rogers can get butthurt when the Packers took that QB. .
@mauidano with a hot take.

Rogers Park
Lawlar must be telling teams he’s going to school?
I guess? There was something I read about how Baltimore is really into aging curves and projection, so the fact that Lawlar is almost 19 might have put them off.

edit: Or maybe not. Great pick for Arizona.

My top 4 were Leiter-Lawlar-Rocker-Davis...but I never even factored Mayer into that.

We got the best non pitcher in the draft and the consensus #1. I'm ecstatic

A lot of great great position players have been taken 1-1 out of high school. I am not sure why anyone would have an issue with taking the highest rated HS position player on the board.

Putting the cart in front of the horse, but I wonder he he might get some time at third and Raffy's eventually moved to first.

Xander could give two shits about some high school that’s 4 years away from the big leagues.
Well, Xander is one who certainly knows how fast a player can rise through the system! He went from the Portland Seadogs to Red Sox starting third baseman in a WS game in a single season.
