Unless you look askance at the Davis 1-1, this Cowser pick is the first underslot BS of the draft.
Any other takes you can provide to enlighten those of us without any knowledge of this pick?
High school shortstops have one of the highest hit rates, if not the highest, of any draft group.
That should be the least of the Red Sox worries. Mayer won't be ready for a couple of years in all probability. If he is ready any sooner, he could probably be moved to second base. Remember Dustin was drafted as a shortstop. The position a guy plays in high school should not affect in most cases whether or not he gets drafted.
This isn't the NFL where Aaron Rogers can get butthurt when the Packers took that QB. .

Exciting to get a player everybody thought was the best position player.
I was so down on Davis, and worried about the pitchers that I am very happy with how this turned out!
I guess? There was something I read about how Baltimore is really into aging curves and projection, so the fact that Lawlar is almost 19 might have put them off.
edit: Or maybe not. Great pick for Arizona.
My top 4 were Leiter-Lawlar-Rocker-Davis...but I never even factored Mayer into that.

Well, Xander is one who certainly knows how fast a player can rise through the system! He went from the Portland Seadogs to Red Sox starting third baseman in a WS game in a single season.
