What I was about to say while NBC was showing replays instead of the goal:

Spurs just don't have anyone in the side who can break the Liverpool press. I think they miss Ndombele's ability to dribble out of tight spaces. Lo Celso is a good passer but that's not his strength.

Oops.

California. Duh.
When they are checking a Liverpool goal we get super zoomed in shots of the hem of someone's sleeve. Here we get a wide angle quick view and they call it good.

Also Spurs scored with their first shot of the game for like the 7th time this season.

Yes clearly it's a refereeing conspiracy.

Benteke scores again! 3 goals in 2 games (edit: well if you skip the last one haha).

(An update from the @Cellar-Door / candylandriots grudge match for the rest of you).

I'll never understand VAR. I don't know if it's onside or offside but every other review this season has been blue line / red line protractor and that one is Goodyear blimp says "it's close enough". Just be consistent.

No lines drawn with Son's foot seemingly in behind the back of Williams's heel is absurd, given the stringency they've shown on other VAR offside checks

In a vacuum, no problem with that being given as a goal as Son's position didn't give him an advantage

I clearly didn't say that. Just wondering where the 2 lines showing the attacker's foot vs the defender's foot that we've seen on literally every other VAR review in history were.

I would actually prefer they let it go when it's that close. It's just a bit annoying when Liverpool lost a couple points at Everton because a thread on Mane's sleeve was beyond a defender.

You're not wrong. Both are good to great creators and passers, but Tanguy does it from deeper on the pitch and is a better dribbler. GLC is a better defender with more stamina. Tanguy still the better player overall, but different skill sets. The GLC assist came from farther upfield than Tanguy likely would've been.

Really annoyed at Davies over Reguilon. Davies is awkward at best going forward.
Reguilon was subbed off last game and think the had a small limp. He may have a slight knock that means he can't go 90.

Slightly inaccurate pass from Aurier causes a turnover that leads to a quick interchange from Liverpool that breaks Spurs' shape and gets Hojbjerg booked.

Taking Lo Celso off on a yellow is probably right, but I'd like to see Ndombele come on rather than Lucas. They're even weaker passing in the center now than they were before.

Weird to say about a team getting outshot 11-4 and losing the possession 77-23, but Spurs are sort of outplaying Liverpool here?

Jeezo. This game is set up perfectly for a Jose smash and grab job.

Two great chances spurned by Spurs in as many minutes.

Really good subs by Mou. The team shape is much better. I don't particularly like Moura's game, but he's fast, a good defender, excellent in the air, and capable of beating his man.

I enjoy Arlo trying to make this match sound exciting. Frankly it's been pretty dull. Not quite as bad as the old Mourinho-Benitez snoozefests from the 00s, but not exactly edge of your seat stuff either.

Spares me the difficulty of deciding whether I want to go down the terrifying road of adding Benteke to my fantasy team.

I don't know about dull. If either team could finish, it would be 4-3 someone.

I thought it was a good one, it's the 3rd time he's come in elbows high, if it weren't his second nobodyu would have any doubt it's a yellow
His elbows come in high because he is a big man. I thought both were very soft yellows. I can see the argument for both, but in my view both were not yellows like 75% of the time. You see them called, but twice especially is harsh.

Like the announcers said, the one defense of the ref is that he was consistent at least.

Meh, to me if your arms are that far from your body and thrown back and you get the opponent in the face you can't be surprised to get a card. Keep your arms tighter to your body, especially if you already got a card for it.

It's just kinda hard to jump like you're an Irish step-dancer, but I get your point, so I'll let it go there.

I'm especially cranky because my German team gave up a 2-0 lead after the 80th minute last night (though this morning for me) as well.

It's definitely a close call, but as long as you're consistent I'm fine with either, especially given that you're trying to avoid head injuries, so guys keeping the elbows tighter is a good thing.
I thought the 2nd was a more clear yellow than the 1st, it takes some serious contact to take Soucek down
