I think this is the point, the fact it's serious enough to miss a Yankee start tells you everything between the lines you need to know.I'd rather they take the NY series a little too lightly than Chris Sale's mild shoulder inflammation.

if you can end the division early and spend September setting up for the World Series run, that would be awfully nice.Do you think Sale is in on the subterfuge? If there’s something there give him 10 days off. Why would you possibly risk it by giving him one more start?
Outside of that, who’s taking it “lightly”?
The fact that a competitor like Sale agreed to miss a start tells you all you need to know. This weekend’s opponent has fuck-all to do with anything.I think this is the point, the fact it's serious enough to miss a Yankee start tells you everything between the lines you need to know.
No way the luxury is taken at the start of a series against the Yankees. If it's truly just a breather, you wait until the following week to do it.They can't exactly publicly tell him to take a week off. "Inflamation" is vague, and it's just the 10-day. Until we hear otherwise I'm thinking this is just a luxury you get when you have an incredible record.
You really should step away from the keyboard.I think this is the point, the fact it's serious enough to miss a Yankee start tells you everything between the lines you need to know.
you basically say that all the time to me.You really should step away from the keyboard.
Why wouldn't you bring the steaks to the safe room? Although you're going to have to feed a shitload of people there. So, should I throw the steaks off the grill into the woods and head to the safe room?
Well, yes. Hence the DLThe "little bit more than I'm used to" part of his quote is ... very concerning.
I think it's extremely reassuring. If there was any genuine concern at all, he'd be getting an MRI.The fact that a competitor like Sale agreed to miss a start tells you all you need to know. This weekend’s opponent has fuck-all to do with anything.
The lack of an MRI is somewhat reassuring.
Do you mean "reassuring" in the same sense that Lynyrd Skynyrd's pilot "reassured" the band that the Convair 240 didn't need to be checked for any potential mechanical issues? The fact that a competitor like Sale agreed to miss a start tells you all you need to know. Bothered by lack of MRI? Folks, we’ve reached peak message boarding in this thread.I'm bothered by the lack of a MRI
Yes. Exactly this. The Sox front office is winging this.Do you mean "reassuring" in the same sense that Lynyrd Skynyrd's pilot "reassured" the band that the Convair 240 didn't need to be checked for any potential mechanical issues?
Agreed. MRIs show all kinds of clinically irrelevant abnormalities, especially in someone who has pitched his whole life. If the history and physical are consistent with routine shoulder tendonitis then you just give him the rest and go from there.I think it's extremely reassuring. If there was any genuine concern at all, he'd be getting an MRI.
That’s obviously the best analogy.Do you mean "reassuring" in the same sense that Lynyrd Skynyrd's pilot "reassured" the band that the Convair 240 didn't need to be checked for any potential mechanical issues?
One more start, in early August, when the Sox are in control of the division. I don't think even Farrell would pull that. Please tell me this is sarcasm.
Edit: I now see that it’s probably not.
Unless a doctor says there is no risk of playing through it, you rest a pitcher when the inflammation is detected. Not “after one more start.” Unless, of course, your goal is to put the rest of the season in jeopardy.
After X and Devers went out for the season, can you blame them?Sale doesn't need to be worried about it. People here seem to have that covered.
Yup, this. They’ve been very careful with injuries (a welcome change) and they’re in the position in the standings to be even more so with their ace.I'd rather they take the NY series a little too lightly than Chris Sale's mild shoulder inflammation.

As an aside, your user name is spot on.
$10 well earned.Agreed. MRIs show all kinds of clinically irrelevant abnormalities, especially in someone who has pitched his whole life. If the history and physical are consistent with routine shoulder tendonitis then you just give him the rest and go from there.
Perhaps the scene in Airplane, where they show the "don't panic" sign or Kevin Bacon going "remain calm" would be appropriate here.
An orthopedist answered this just above.Just curious but why no MRI? It’d not lead to more damage - is it simply because it can show so much other issues that aren’t causing the current soreness?
It can be a real concern and something out of the ordinary while still being something that can be 100% resolved with a week of rest on the DL.So - this thread seems evenly spread between the "assume the worst in the hope of being pleasantly surprised that the sky hasn't fallen" people and those taking the rosy "nothing to see here, just precautionary" approach, thereby leaving themselves open to being crushed like the petals of a tulip under the boots of an advancing storm trooper. As for me - I'm firmly in the camp of those who believe that "minor surgery" and "mild coronaries" are events that happen to other people. This is serious - you don't sit your ace on the DL unless there is a real concern and something out of the ordinary is in play. I await news that the sky isn't falling while crouching under the nearest bridge abutment.
Yes, that's what the shelves of survival food is for. Fear not, I'm going to eat this straight of the grill, Can't waste prime cut cow.Why wouldn't you bring the steaks to the safe room? Although you're going to have to feed a shitload of people there.
What's the All Star Game got to do with anything? He threw about 10 pitches. He would normally throw more pitches than that on his regular throw day. I hate people who jump to faulty conclusions based on no evidence.Damn All-Star game.
Yeah, but he eats at Olive GardenAn orthopedist answered this just above.

I don't think they're taking it lightly at all. When the pitcher that's the linchpin of the season is sore in late July, he sits. Why does it matter who they're playing? It's one game.I still think they're taking this next NY series a little too lightly. Let Sale go one more then skip a start / DL him, when we're facing the remnants of the Blue Jays and O's.
I get it but we really don't want to let NY back in in any way. in the end it's just about 20% or so of one game's projected win probability, hopefully they cream CC and it's all good.
D”oh I missed that post. My bad.An orthopedist answered this just above.
