Well, at least for them it is reportedly over now.
Still feels kinda weird reading about that and it not being our problem anymore though.

Sad. He is really a great guy but I get it. It's a results business and he's been shitting the bed for awhile.Well, at least for them it is reportedly over now.

Guess it was that long ago that I took my sons down to Trenton for Clemens v Buchholz.Sad. He is really a great guy but I get it. It's a results business and he's been shitting the bed for awhile.
Fangraphs allows you to create custom reports with your own list of players on the leaderboard pagesDo any of the stat sites have a function where you can assemble a list of (former sox) players that automatically updates? It would be great to have a one click link to see what's going on with the gang.
He should use that $13M and invest in super glue.
You can create a minor league list if first click on one of the minor league leaderboards (i.e., AAA - International) then assemble players from there.BUT - MLB only, no minor league stuff (you can't even select minor league players who've never made the majors). So it only does a partial job.
DFA'ed per MLBN scroll. It sounds like old friend Tim Federowicz is going to get called up by the Giants while Posey goes on the concussion DL.
Edit: Giants beat writers on Twitter confirm this transaction and that Bochy refers to him as "FedEx"
Thanks! The annoyance is mild compared to not having the MiLB list at all.You can create a minor league list if first click on one of the minor league leaderboards (i.e., AAA - International) then assemble players from there.
The annoyance is you have to maintain two separate lists -- one for MLB players, one for MiLB players.
Slightly off topic but Bosio tossing Ken Griffey Jr. into his implied steroid group is the real takeaway from that article in my opinionAnother reason to love John Lackey...

Probably right around the time that Shaws OPS drops to .700.Travis Shaw has a 917 OPS, when is Tyler Thornburg expected to throw his first pitch this season?
I expect the OPS @ .700 will happen before Thornburg pitches in a game for the Sox.Probably right around the time that Shaws OPS drops to .700.
Please put me on Ignore. The guys were already talking about Shaw just above my post. Ignore is a great function!I expect the OPS @ .700 will happen before Thornburg pitches in a game for the Sox.
And ITP: you don't have to spam multiple threads with your unwholesome interest.
Ellsbury hit his 2nd homerun of the year today. 99th career. 100 watch begins. 2011 accounted for >30% of his career homeruns.Thankfully the Ellsbury updates have ceased as well.
For the last two years running the yanks have paid $21mil for aprox. 85 OPS+. They're paying him the same rate till 2021. That said, if he has a good year, I'm sure we'll hear about it. Can one cherry pick bellyaching? If so, watch for it here.Thankfully the Ellsbury updates have ceased as well.

Jonathan Aro is the type of player I don't begrudge trying to get a single payday. The difference between the major league and AAA minimums is absurd, so if you're a AAAA guy who needs 3 mph on your fastball or bat speed I could see the economics involved there as justified. It's sort of like all those players like Daubach and Mahay who crossed the union lines in 95. Just get one arbitration season and you're set up really well for the rest of your life. Can't retire on it, it can do what you like a little easier.Another short-timer, Jonathan Aro, suspended 50 games for a (unspecified) positive drug test.

I saw this on MLB.TV - that he was pitching - and watched it. And I'm glad he did. A crazy game, and I couldn't believe he was doing it, that he was even still pitching at all. Good for him.Bronson Arroyo going 6 innings on 66 pitches, mostly in the high 70s with no walks and 7 Ks for the win against Lackey and the Cubs- damn I wish I could have watched that game. Impressive and/or lucky.
What was it like? Was he just mixing stuff up well? Jamie Moyer style?I saw this on MLB.TV - that he was pitching - and watched it. And I'm glad he did. A crazy game, and I couldn't believe he was doing it, that he was even still pitching at all. Good for him.
Not all WAR is equal. How comfortable would we be with Hembree/Barnes as our closer, and Margot in the OF?Manuel Margot's career bWAR for the Padres (1.4) now exceeds Craig Kimbrel's for the Red Sox (1.3). Expected that to happen someday - just not as soon as the first month of his rookie season. (Disclaimer: Margot was destined to be traded with our crowded outfield, but the Padres did well to acquire a guy who looks like their CF of the future.)
Anderson Espinoza's still on the DL. They're hoping mid-May.
More likely Margot in AAA unless JBJ was traded elsewhere. The most likely scenario is that Margot's bWAR for the Sox would still be 0.0 at this point. Not all WAR is equal. How comfortable would we be with Hembree/Barnes as our closer, and Margot in the OF?
More than half of that bWAR rating is from defense. Defensive WAR in a sample of 32 games is laughably meaningless, no matter how it's calculated. Offensively, it's still all of 129 plate appearances.Manuel Margot's career bWAR for the Padres (1.4) now exceeds Craig Kimbrel's for the Red Sox (1.3). He was never on the Red Sox. Never happened. Nope.Eric Gagne signs with the Long Island Ducks of the Independent League. Hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2008. Did throw a couple scoreless innings for Canada in the WBC.
Can't believe he's still around, and that he's back after two full seasons out of the league. That's pretty crazy.I saw this on MLB.TV - that he was pitching - and watched it. And I'm glad he did. A crazy game, and I couldn't believe he was doing it, that he was even still pitching at all. Good for him.
Apparently Lars Anderson is on that team too. http://www.sbnation.com/2017/5/10/15615752/manny-ramirez-home-run-japanManny hanging with former farmhand Oscar Tejada
I don't know what is worse, the fact that he never regained his form, or the fact that at 31 and years removed from success, he is still trying to put it all together. I can't imagine what that must be like.Daniel Bard pitched 8 2/3 innings for STL's AA team, and allowed just 6 hits, no home runs, a 2.75 GO/AO, and struck out 7. The downside is that he walked 19, threw 4 wild pitches, and hit two batters. He was released last week.
