Felger is 15 minutes away from getting his head buzzed and apparently will be blind folded until it is revealed who won the "Cuts for a Cause" bid on him. I'm gonna guess it's John Henry.

She is unreal, you should have seen her 5-10 year ago... just unreal.

And he landed her in a bar.
I had the rare privilege of standing next to her on the Fiedler foot bridge during the 4th of July concert back when I was a park ranger about 11 years ago. Absolute smokeshow in person.

Mazz read a text that someone sent in yesterday. Paraphrasing: "I saw the Wood on the telecast. Felger, you're a lucky man -- my wife is a pig."

BSMW ran this pic with the following post this morning:

The idea that these two could judge the toughness of anyone, let alone a professional athlete, is mind-boggling.

Thumb injuries to Andrew Bailey and Josh Beckett have sports radio hosts on both stations in town questioning and mocking the toughness and dedication of the pitchers. Massarotti threw around the word “hypochondriac” in reference to Bailey. It was also suggested that Beckett merely wants to spend some more time with his wife and daughter instead of starting the season.Thumb wrestling and too many video games were also suggested.

Look, injuries are frustrating, and both Bailey and Beckett have a history with them. Sports radio hosts have no idea what is really happening with injuries. It’s one of my biggest beefs with sports media – when they feel they can judge or comment on something that is happening inside someone else’s body. How exactly does that work?

Man, look at this pussy hypochondriac Andrew Bailey, all needing season ending surgery and shit. If Mike Felger was GM of the Red Sox they wouldn't tolerate players who get "hurt" (i.e. go out and fake UCL damage so they can stay home all year and watch Jersey Shore).

And what about Ben Cherington? Didn't he learn anything from the Jacoby Ellsbury fiasco? WHY do they keep bringing in players who randomly and unavoidably collide with other players?!

FWIW, I had it on during this conversation last week and I thought he was talking about Beckett when he called him a hypochondriac because he had to get these tests done for "peace of mind"

Yeah Forkeeps, I think you're off on this one.
Before we found out that he needed surgery on his thumb, Valentine was the one that came out and called in a "situation" and said he expected them both to be fine. However, his diatribe against Bailey has been against ownership not Bailey in that this is what happens when you try signing players on the cheap that have a history of getting injured.

Beckett is a hypochondriac and his thumb is fine, he is also taking a beating by all the radio hosts on both stations, not just Felger.

Ever since Michael Gee left the Boston Herald, I've found that I agree with him more and more. This is from BSMW regarding our buddy Mazz:

Tony, I say this as someone who worked with you and liked you. It's for your own good, honest. Nobody on this planet makes a less convincing tough guy than you do. Angelina Jolie has a bunch of movies where she was a better tough guy than you are. Drop the act. All it does is make you seem stupid, which you're not, or least didn't used to be.
This is his blog.

I don't get it? When does Mazz ever come off as a tough guy? A douchebag, yep. Felger's lapdog, absolutely. Stupid Boston accent to make fun of Boston fans which is rarely funny, every fucking day. But tough guy? What did I miss?

Did you read the whole blog post? The reference was to Mazz saying Beckett needing to hit more batters, which is the epitome of the faux tough guy statement.

His voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me. It's annoying when he's speaking normally, but since he started on TSH it seems like he's pushing more from his chest and stomach muscles (incidentally, if you ever take singing lessons, this is how they teach you to sing with more power). The result is this forced-sounding speaking voice that sounds like he's always yelling, even if he's not. Add to that the verbal diarrhea coming out of his mouth and I just can't listen to him at all.

So yeah, while I don't think TSH will do anything any time soon, add me to the chorus of people who'd like someone else in with Felger (who I usually enjoy).

They proceed to have freak injuries unrelated to their past chronic problems? Sounds like an airtight argument, street team.

Ooh, street team, wow I'm offended now, way to give it to me, I've looked through your past posts and I'm trying to find some where you aren't being a douchebag. Was Bailey's current injury a freak occurence sure was, but the Sox ACQUIRED an player with a history of getting injured and don't seem to have an adequate back up plan. Unless you are currently excited about Melancon being the closer.
And of course Bailey was acquired via trade.
Bah, you're splittiing hairs SJH. Acquired/signed, whatever.

The mucky muck
Their assertion the other day, based on a caller, that a "a lot of people" in this fanbase would rather lose without Beckett than win with him was completely laughable and absurd.

I almost always love the show and the schtick, but this week has been just awful. They've gone completely off the rails with the whole Bailey and Beckett thing.

Same here, I can't stand Beckett, but the Texas Tough Guy complaint by Felger is now getting really old and annoying and starting to reach Mazz bitching about not getting Teixeira levels of annoying.

As much as I can't stand him, if he has a Cy Young type season and wins close to 20 games and gets the Sox to the playoffs he can go to as many doctors for his thumb as he wants.

Mazz admitted the other day that when he wants to get in touch with the "common fan," he asks his elderly father what he thinks about whatever the Red Sox crisis du jour is. I can't imagine his poor wife having to listen to shrill Cassandra every day...

That's what sucks the most about Mazz. He is always admitting that he doesn't watch the games but still treats his opinions like facts and hosts The Baseball Show.

Especially considering Felger and Mazz both have been extremely critical of the Sox's medical/training staff the past few years.

Chad Finn, in his chats, has repeatedly stated that the Tony Mazz on-air persona is all an act, that off the air he's a very different (and presumably more tolerable) person.

Whether or not this is a commendable trait, to adopt a radio persona designed to yank the chains of his listeners, is an exercise left to the reader.

Bill Simmons became very rich doing the exact same thing. Maybe Mazz is copying the template?

Yesterday's show was abysmal and tremendous...it depended on the sport they were discussing. The Penguins bashing and hockey talk was great. I enjoyed the limited Wes Welker discussions and even Felger and Wiggins busting on each other's hockey prowess. But the Red Sox talk was brutal. I enjoy the criticism a lot of the time (and there is plenty to legitimely criticize) but Mazz, Felger, and Wiggy were just babbling utter shit yesterday. I have to stick up for ForKeeps - on more than one occasion, Mazz and Felger both referred to the Sox as a "bunch" or "team" of hypochondriacs. I remember thinking outside of Beckett, who are they talking about? Ellsbury again?

They also kept bringing up free agent busts this season..."Bailey, Carlos Silva, Aaron Cook, Ohlendorf..." - all this to show how poor of a job Ben did this offseason. There are times when I don't know if they're being serious or if it's 100% trolling on the Red Sox. One guy hurts his thumb on a collision and the other three they mentioned were ML vets they took a flyers on. How can they criticize the Carlos Silva signing or call him a "bust"? The best was when Wiggy said, "Sox fans must be missing Theo right now because at least he was willing to pay out some serious jack to get guys to come here", as if it was up to Epstein. And Felger and Mazz, as usual just let it slide.

they were ripping Theo the same way when Epstein was still here
Hey Jason Wolfe Jr, please stick to listening to your hero, Glen Ordway. Everything you post is "WEEI is great, 95.5 sucks". I bash F&M all the time but I also realize they're head and shoulders better than anything on EEI. I get frustrated when they do lousy radio at times because they're capable of far better content.

was I bashing F&M here? did any part of that statement sing the praises of WEEI? you show me when I go and bash TSH/F&M...find some facts, and come back to speak to me
