Agreed. He is beyond pathetic at this point.Mazz's column today is so bad I'd set fire to it if I didn't need this laptop for work.
Guess I was wrong about that:I believe it, Mazz's issue with Teixeira was that the Sox were cheap and could have outbid the NYY for him, which I think most agree is bullshit, he was always going to the NYY at least IMO.
With Gonzalez and hopefully Crawford he won't be able to use that argument anymore because the Sox are going to pay him bigtime money to get him. He will find something else to bitch about but Teixiera and Gonzalez won't make that list. It will also stop all the Liverpool nonsense as well.
Edit: Mazz isn't the prospect fucker, Felger is. Mazz said yesterday he is always in favor of giving up prospects for proven MLB talent.
I hate you assholes for making me read that article. In many ways, of course, this all goes back to Mark Teixeira, whom the Red Sox failed to sign two winters ago because they drew the line at $170 million over eight years. Teixeira subsequently ended up in New York for $180 million, and the Red Sox haven’t won a playoff game since. The Yankees have won a World Series. Now the Sox must sacrifice money and talent to lock up Gonzalez, whose numbers stack up almost identically to those of Teixeira over the last four or five years.
Once again, owner John Henry this morning defended the Red Sox’ approach on Teixeira, arguing that Teixeira was bound for New York from the beginning. Of course, the Red Sox will never know. Had the Sox kept hiking their offer and Teixeira kept saying no, the Sox might have at jacked the price some. Instead, as Padres general manager and former Sox assistant Jed Hoyer said this morning Orlando, all the Sox got was a "kick in the stomach
He's the new Shaughnessy and Borges. He is now writing articles, with little regard for the truth, to put forth his agenda and generate calls for his radio show"Now you paid too much for Gonzalez1!!!11"
Christ. Does he have no shame or honesty at all?
yupAnyone else having streaming issues on the 98.5 website?
I did this morning when T&R was on (anyone else notice that Fred clearly has a better handle on the Red Sox than Mike Felger and his trained monkey?) - surprised they haven't fixed it yet.Anyone else having streaming issues on the 98.5 website?
He did, he said any big move. He also has never had an issue trading prospects, which he has repeated several times the last few weeks. Felger was the one saying he wouldn't give up Kelly.I could've sworn I heard Mazz say last week that if the Sox went out and did whatever it takes to get Gonzalez, he would applaud the move.
Don't believe it. I bet within the first 15 minutes he'll say something along the lines of, "Well, if they just would have closed the Teixeira deal two years ago they would have had a premier first baseman and wouldn't have had to give up propects. After all, they're still gonna pay for a huge contract in the extension". There is no way he can resist.
I haven't listened in about a month or so but I'm tuning in on Monday just to hear how correct I am.
Fuck off Jack, I already admitted I was wrong. (Laughing emoticon)I can't listen to the show because the stream is off but his article is proof enough. I posted this two days ago...the little weenie, Tony Massarotti, couldn't help himself.
This from a guy who once advocated trading both Lester and Buchholz -- one of them, for Salty.Next time, instead of tweeting away on his Blackberry to gripe about Scott Boras as he did amid the Teixeira talks, maybe Henry will merely open his wallet and close the deal. Had he done so two years ago, he would have done more than save himself millions. He would have made money because you would have had a better, more exciting baseball team that would have better maintained your interest. And he’d still have Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes.
Talk about being penny-wise and pound-foolish.
Its not important who we blame, but someone needs to be blamed because without that we dont have stories or angles to create controversy with.Wait, I thought the narrative was that ownership was cheap? Now it's Theo's fault?
Now they are taking calls from Danny from Quincy. This is sub-Mustard and Johnson radio.Really, really bad radio.
Maybe it's revisionist history, but I don't remember EEI ever trying to create controversy like Mazz is doing today. They may have had an agenda or stick to the same talking point, would talk over everyone, and have horrible guests, but I never remember Ordway going way way way off the reservation to create a controversy for the sake of creating one.Its not important who we blame, but someone needs to be blamed because without that we dont have stories or angles to create controversy with.
Mazz needs to go, he is doing this for attention but its really ridiculous. Most of us grew tired of EEI because of their 'agenda' or 'appeal to the controversy' strategy, and Mazz is trying to do basically the same thing with a more intelligent audience. This seems like a poorly thought out strategy to me.
In addition to all the other silliness, technically they wouldn't have Fuentes, because that pick would've gone to the Angels for signing Tex.And he’d still have Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes.
Well, the Red Sox are #1 in this town and the television ratings have proven this, as Felger and Mazz have demonstrated since last summer. Why would they talk about the Patriots?Have they spent all day talking baseball (poorly) or have they bothered to mention the biggest regular season football game in like 5 years?
That only makes it worse. He says there is nothing to complain about in that vid but then spends a column and an entire radio show bitching about how much better life would be if, by his reasoning, *Theo hadn't blown the Teixeira deal.* So not only is he full of shit he's two-faced about it as well.I can't listen because of the stream not working, but in this video he isn't as bad..

He explains the details vs Teixeira but also says nothing you can really complain about with this deal.
Just put it on for a second, and Felger was ranting about Randy Moss.Well, the Red Sox are #1 in this town and the television ratings have proven this, as Felger and Mazz have demonstrated since last summer. Why would they talk about the Patriots?
It really bothers me how Mazz is quick to attack every perceived misstep Theo Epstein. What does Mazz have against Theo? Is it simply because Epstein was the replacement for Dan Duquette? Mazz goes out of his way to deny Epstein credit for his world championship teams. His two main talking points are that the nucleus of the 2004 team was in place before Epstein arrived and that Beckett and Lowell were acquired while Hoyer and Cherington were temporarily in charge. Meanwhile, Mazz offers effusive praise for Duquette in his book about the 2004 World Series Champions. I think Mazz is simply playing the buddy system. He's out to protect the narrative that Duquette was the brains behind the championships. Has Mazz ever mentioned that this whole Teixeira "controversy" could have been avoided years ago, if Dan Duquette didn't botch the draft pick negotiation with Teixeira? That only makes it worse. He says there is nothing to complain about in that vid but then spends a column and an entire radio show bitching about how much better life would be if, by his reasoning, *Theo hadn't blown the Teixeira deal.* So not only is he full of shit he's two-faced about it as well.
They actually had Duquette on their show one day and Mazz brought up how Theo and John Henry "blew it" regarding Teixeira. To The Duke's credit, he laughed and said something along the lines of "Well if you want to be angry with anybody, be angry with me for not being able to sign him years ago. I should have just given him what he wanted then." Then Duquette explained that from everything he heard, the Sox had no real shot because the Yankees had every intention of trumping Boston's offer and that Tex always wanted to wind up in NY anyway. Then there was silence...and Felger thanked him for calling in. They never even touched on Duquette's remarks after the interview because it didn't suit Mazz' argument. Here is the link to the interview. It's says it's down right now but if you ever want to check back, their interviews work sporadically.Has Mazz ever mentioned that this whole Teixeira "controversy" could have been avoided years ago, if Dan Duquette didn't botch the draft pick negotiation with Teixeira years ago?
This is the lowest of the low.Now they are taking calls from Danny from Quincy. This is sub-Mustard and Johnson radio.
Well one of the callers today suggested that Youks could play short if the Sox re-signed Beltre. At first I thought the caller was serious but then he let loose that he was calling from Bed, Bath & Beyond so who knows. Mazz seemed confused. This is the lowest of the low.
One of the first things I remember Felger saying on 98.5 was they weren't going to be like the other station and have on callers who are in character spouting the same schtick all the time. Now not only do they have a bunch of those callers, they have the worst one from the other station doing exactly that on their station.
Good grief. Louder ain't better.
I would say the 'lets just get people upset about something' strategy on D&C is a create controversy thing. While its bad, its not as bad as Mazz is right nowMaybe it's revisionist history, but I don't remember EEI ever trying to create controversy like Mazz is doing today. They may have had an agenda or stick to the same talking point, would talk over everyone, and have horrible guests, but I never remember Ordway going way way way off the reservation to create a controversy for the sake of creating one.
You're 100% correct. But, it'll be a decent portion of "This team wouldn't be in this situation with Randy Moss!" followed by "You're right, Mike, you're right". And Felger is right, he nailed it regarding Moss. But at some point he needs to stop patting himself on the back - we get it and agree with you Felgie, what do you want, a cookie? If either of them come out today with anything negative, it's time for me to walk away from this show for awhile and head back to EEI. Today is a day for pom-pom waving not to try and generate a controversy that doesn't exist.
Gresh made a good point earlier today (can't believe i just typed that) but for as correct as Felger was about the Moss situation, he was dead wrong about the TE situation "... Gronkowski won't do it."You're 100% correct. But, it'll be a decent portion of "This team wouldn't be in this situation with Randy Moss!" followed by "You're right, Mike, you're right". That said, it should be a good show. I haven't listend in a while but I'm going to tune in today (assuming the stream works - it was out yesterday).
