When Young is ready, I think you'll see Brentz back down, Benintendi up, and Holt replace Michael Martinez as the guy who can fill in anywhere during this grueling 2nd half.Happy Benintendi and Moncada survived.. so when does the former get called up to Boston?
Give him a few starts. I think we sometimes downplay the disruption in guys' lives that these sorts of trades can make. He's still striking out 9+/ 9IP.Fantastic. Good job DD! In this crazy market, he gave up just one top of the line prospect and got Hill, Ziegler and Pomeranz. Still don't love the Pomeranz trade, but compared to some of the deals it isn't that bad.
Seemed like they were putting themselves out there to snag someone in desperation mode. Never felt realistic.Anyone surprised the White Sox couldn't move Sale or Quintana?
I think he's going to be fine. In fact, but for the one really, terrible, awful no-good inning, he has been fine.Give him a few starts. I think we sometimes downplay the disruption in guys' lives that these sorts of trades can make. He's still striking out 9+/ 9IP.
Less that they couldn't move them - just not be given enough incentive to move them. Still time to compete with their contracts.Anyone surprised the White Sox couldn't move Sale or Quintana?
Dude, it was Joel Sherman. By definition, he's a fucking joke.Nothing in the world is more obnoxious than this shit. "Oh here's what the projected Yankees lineup is in 20-fucking-19. Note MVPs here, here, and here." Any serious baseball writer putting that shit out there is a joke.
Devers and Kopech are the two closest in rank, but the Sox probably have had to throw someone else in.Wonder what the Sox equivalent to the TX MIL trade would have been? Lucroy/Jeffers would have been a nice get.
I was thinking the same about Bill Murray in Scrooged. "I'm aliiive....Holy Shit what a break" Glad YM and AB are still SoxI am feeling exactly the way George, Mary and Uncle Billy did in the scene in It's a Wonderful Life when they make it to the end of the business day without having to close their doors.
From now on I will always think of Benintendi and Moncada as Papa Dollar and Mama Dollar.
What does Tampa do with Duffy? They have a lot of holes to fill, but 3rd isn't one of them.Looks like Matt Duffy was moved in the Matt Moore deal
I was hoping they would but not surprised they weren't . People don't want to give up anything for reclamation projects.I'm actually very surprised they didn't deal one of Buchholz or Kelly.
I was also wondering about this. I guess they also sent Pearce to Baltimore, so maybe they put him or Forsythe at 1B?What does Tampa do with Duffy? They have a lot of holes to fill, but 3rd isn't one of them.
Limited middle infield experience or first. Doesn't hit free agency until 2021.What does Tampa do with Duffy? They have a lot of holes to fill, but 3rd isn't one of them.
He can play 2b and even SS in a pinch. What does Tampa do with Duffy? They have a lot of holes to fill, but 3rd isn't one of them.
The Giants again dealt from strength here. Shaw is the prize but he is blocked by Belt while their acquisition of Nunez allowed them to deal Duffy (aka skinny Panda) for a LH starter with three more years of control. This is classic post Bonds-era Sabean, going after pitching for a team that has thrived on decent to great hulers and strong defense. I think they did very well for themselves this trade deadline.Giants overpaying a ton
Thats an overpay.Sandoval, Castillo and Allen Craig are going to Dunkin Donuts for cruellers
Shaw's not in the deal. It's Duffy and two minor leaguers, one of whom was BP's #2 Giants prospect. The Giants again dealt from strength here. Or just have him play for this team that also needs a C.Today goes so much differently if Swihart doesn't wreck his ankle. Would be nice to get some ABs for him in September so DD can dangle him to teams needing a C.
2017I probably missed it but what is the timetable for Swihart returning? Did he screw up his ankle that badly?
I am bracing myself. Cashman seems to have exerted a Svengali like influence on GMs these last few days.Nova traded too? What top prospect did they give up for that scrub?
He might be able to make it back sooner, but it would strictly be as an of.Crap! Thanks Pauley.
This move might be the shot in the car the Giants need.I hear he has a gun for an arm.
PTBNLI am bracing myself. Cashman seems to have exerted a Svengali like influence on GMs these last few days.
I saw him play a few times last year at AT & T and was impressed. You probably more so. I thought he was really well liked by the team and the fan base. You think that this was a fair swap?Duffy was brought up in 2014 as a utility infielder. They liked what they saw and brought him back for 2015. When Pablo's replacement Casey McGehee kept getting hurt and wasn't hitting when he did play, they tried Duffy at third, and he did well. Duffy played mostly SS in the minors though, can probably do fine at any of SS, third or second.
That's very possible. In hindsight, I'm glad they kept all 4 catchers since there are question marks on all of them & I'm willing to give it more time to see how it shakes out.Can I also add that I'm glad Swihart is still around?
After the weird position shuffle and resulting injury, he's lost some luster here, but I think that's unwarranted. I predict he's the Opening Day catcher in 2017.

Think so? Seems to me he's still the third most likely candidate for that honor. Can I also add that I'm glad Swihart is still around?

Plus he's dreamy, like Ells used to be.Can I also add that I'm glad Swihart is still around?

I'm with you. I'm still very high on him.Can I also add that I'm glad Swihart is still around?

As long as God is busy running his Sandy Leon fansite I don't want to interrupt.your keyboard, gods monitor
If they could have gotten anything decent for Sandy Leon I'd be thrilled. If you look in the dictionary under SSS you see his picture. That's very possible. In hindsight, I'm glad they kept all 4 catchers since there are question marks on all of them & I'm willing to give it more time to see how it shakes out.
Amen. Could not agree more. He was starting to play well when he got hurt (albeit in LF) and Vazquez apparently can't hit enough to be a net plus player, even with his elite defense. I've heard lots of people (at work and such, not here) talking about Swihart as "throw-in" for a big trade or dangling him to "a team that needs a catcher" and I am baffled. We need a catcher. Can I also add that I'm glad Swihart is still around?

Except with a career line of 92 OPS+, which is already very good for a catcher, and which we expect him to exceed.JBJ 2.0
I'll bite. What's your ranking?Think so? Seems to me he's still the third most likely candidate for that honor.
Agreed, and I feel the same way about Erod. For all his health and tipping problems this year, he managed to be an above average starter at 22. He just started showing a decent 3rd pitch for the first time in his career this month. Can I also add that I'm glad Swihart is still around?

Are they planning on pulling Sanchez from the rotation? Liriano would be a huge downgrade. The Blue Jays have struck a late-breaking deal to acquire lefty Francisco Lirianofrom the Pirates, as Robert Murray of Fan Rag tweets. There are two prospects heading to Pittsburgh in the deal Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca tweets.
